When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete

When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app (specifically a "live/Hotmail" account) in iOS 13, it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete. I have to press the delete button again for it to actually delete. Anyone else having issues with this? I deleted and re-added the affected account, but it still does it.

Thanks!

QUESTION TO FORUM VETERANS : How can those suffering from this bug form a united front and press Apple on this issue?

Workaround : swipe to delete seems to work from mail inbox (so read your emails first and go back to inbox view to swipe delete any you want to trash)

MARK2620:

I did open a support case and the representative wanted me to go through several steps that I'm not willing to go through (reset all settings, rebuild phone, etc) because I would have a lot of setup work to do all over again. I've got four family members, with different Apple devices (7, X, XR, 11), all experiencing the same problems. I told the rep unless he could guarantee the steps he was suggesting would work, I wasn't going to try them. He couldn't guarantee it and explained what he was suggesting was a standard set of steps that they use to troubleshoot a plethora of issues. These issues are iOS bugs... not a problem with my specific device. He's the one who told me to provide feedback using the link I listed. Maybe it was the only thing he had left to suggest since I was disagreeable to his other suggestions, but I thought it was worth a shot.

No fix but if you can open a case and the more complaints the better. In regards to doing what they ask restoring device etc please explain that there is no point in doing this as it doesn’t rectify the issue but just wastes time. Make them aware of this forum post and how many people have issues don’t hang up until you have a case opened.

I have a case open with Apple for this. The case had been moved to their enterprise support. The short story is that Apple says it’s a Microsoft problem and Microsoft says their platforms fully support EAS services. Microsoft says that iOS implementation of EAS is Apple’s problem to fix. So, it’s become a finger pointing game.

As of this posting, my Exchange account is working fine after removing the account and setting it up manually. I doubt this will last more than 24 hours. All the suggested fixes so far have only provided temporary relief.

Our only hope at this point is for the developers to address the issue in future releases. iOS 13.3 is likely coming within a month or so. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Same issue here. Running 13.1.2 and deleted all email accounts and recreated.

I tend to never delete anything. But I have to open emails twice to have them marked as read. I think it’s the same issue first time you open is not properly linked and any action (reading, forwarding or deleting does not happen the first time).

Thinking of switching to Outlook App.

I got through 6 of 13 pages of replies and then jumped to the last.

I am having the double delete problem on my X mostly with gmail, but probably with the other accounts monitored there.

In the 6 pages of replies I skipped did anyone mention the following?

As mentioned it seems that I usually have to delete most (but not all) email twice.. BUT... most of the time it seems the message WAS deleted and by deleting it again I am actually deleting the NEXT email!

If I go back to the main listing I can confirm that the initial deletion attempt worked.

It has been this way since the beginning.. now on 13.1.3

I have opened a ticket with Apple since the problem returned for me after all fixes were tried. I have submitted a enhanced log package plus screenshots and screen recording of the issue. This was done with a senior Apple tech. I was told I would get a call back on Tuesday regarding a resolution or notification of a patch. If you want Apple to listen, log a case. Apple engineers do not monitor these forums. Too much noise here for them to get valuable information. They need actual debugging information to do their job.

So, following MARK2620's advice, I, too, launched a case with Apple Support. On the first call, I allowed them to do a screen connect. I was able to show him a sent message that displayed twice in the Sent folder. I had an empty Inbox and was unable to recreate the having-to-delete-twice issue that so many of us are plagued with. I was not willing to close the case so he suggested using the screen recording method so when I called back, the support person would have direct evidence of what we've all been experiencing. Since then, I captured numerous screen shots at 14 separate video recordings that clearly show problems with the Mail app.

So, today I called back and spoke to another support person. She said, paraphrasing, "Apple knows about the problem and is working to fix it." She then suggested the issue was with either my mail server or mail servers in general that weren't compatible with Apple's Mail app. What? My mail server (Exchange Server 2016) hasn't changed for the last couple of years and has been rock solid going back to at least iOS 11. I explained to her (at least in my case) this is not a mail server issue but a Mail App issue. Clearly, she doesn't know the difference. I asked to speak with a senior person and was given the same explanation again after which she ended the call without warning.

I've been a tech person going on three decades and am not one to complain much about technology because I know it's not perfect. This person needs a serious refresh on what standards I thought existed at Apple when speaking with real people over the phone.

On the bright side, I was told, "It'll be fixed in the next update." Not that I expected it, but she did not mention when this update would be coming.

Side note, iPadOS 13.2, I have one email that's in my Inbox despite the fact it's been deleted multiple times and still shows up. I've deleted and recreated the account, rebooted my iPad Pro, and looked at the moon sideways facing due north on one foot (ya, I'm desperate to try anything) to fix this issue. Bizarre.

Apple, you're known for your quality but this isn't it. How can such a core app break this bad after so many years?

Please, please do better.

But that's the nature of the bug...it isn't universal, so their developers will need to work out what is going on! I've gone two days now without it happening at all, then just 30 mins ago it started to happen on my iPhone again. For info I'm connecting to outlook.com (Exchange), it's definitely an Apple issue as this didn't use to be a problem prior to IOS 13!
