When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete

When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app (specifically a "live/Hotmail" account) in iOS 13, it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete. I have to press the delete button again for it to actually delete. Anyone else having issues with this? I deleted and re-added the affected account, but it still does it.

Thanks!

No. It’s a problem with the mail app on iOS 13. It’s not a problem with Microsoft (activesync works fine on every other mail app I have) or google or anyone else. Apple broke their mail app and they need to fix it.

fwiw I’ve been using outlook for the last week or two, and it’s been fine. It’s much better than it was a year ago - in some ways better than the mail app, in some ways not.

Apple your clearly monitoring this post as you have just deleted my post above...

We removed your post “Need to delete email twice in iOS 13” because it contained inappropriate language or comments. We understand wanting to share experiences, but these forums are meant for technical questions that can be answered by the community.

sorry you found it inappropriate but whilst your here could we get some feedback/message from Apple regarding this ongoing issue.

many thanks

I bought a new iPad Pro. It had an older iOS. I ended up having to upgrade to the new iOS on my new iPad since my Reminders got updated when I bought my new iPhone 11 because once any device has the new IOS that upgrades Reminders you can no longer use Reminders across platforms unless you upgrade each device to the new Operating system. So now I am stuck with an upgrade that has hosed up mail causing me lots of unnecessary time and frustration to manage my inbox. Yes, there are certain extra steps you can go through to eventually make things work, but holy cow, it takes me forever to get through the new mail in my inbox. I do not care for the Outlook app or the MS website to do mail. This reminds of all the reasons I switched from MS to Apple in the first place. Now Apple is really no better than MS any more. Unfortunately after my two recent purchases I am heavily invested in them. I will remain hopeful it will eventually get fixed. They sure have ticked off a lot of their die hard fan base in the past month though. It will give people great pause on whether to continue on the Apple train the next time it is time to upgrade devices, which is why I even have the new iPhone and the new iPad because they made my old generation of iphone and iPad almost unbearable to use. No way to treat a lady Apple. Live and learn. I will be doing more analysis next time I come due for a new device, which hopefully will not be for a few years.

I got through 6 of 13 pages of replies and then jumped to the last.

I am having the double delete problem on my X mostly with gmail, but probably with the other accounts monitored there.

In the 6 pages of replies I skipped did anyone mention the following?

As mentioned it seems that I usually have to delete most (but not all) email twice.. BUT... most of the time it seems the message WAS deleted and by deleting it again I am actually deleting the NEXT email!

If I go back to the main listing I can confirm that the initial deletion attempt worked.

It has been this way since the beginning.. now on 13.1.3

I upgraded my iPad from 13.1.2 to 13.2 last night and this morning the iPad is behaving well. I’m not having to delete emails twice at the moment that’s for sure. It still doesn’t download the emails until you enter the mailbox though. That’s pretty annoying on its own. Hoping my phone will behave better when that’s updated later.

this really annoys me, as I pay a lot per month for two devices on a business contract, and am unable to use them as intended. It’s really not good enough. The update included pointless additions and killed the mail app. Apple, you currently suck.

I think I may have found a solution to this. First of all I'm using an iPhone 8 with 13.2, and have had this exact issue since upgrading from IOS 12. I'm using 4 Exchange type accounts, 2 are on premise Exchange servers and 2 are Office 365s. All exhibited the same issue. I'm not sure if this will work for POP/IMAP accounts, as I don't use those.

This works for me since the initial IOS 13 update.

Settings > Mail > Treading

Organise by Thread On *

Collapse Read Message Off

Most Recent Message on Top Off

Complete Threads Off

* I think this is the main setting that matters. The rest should be personal preferences, but I thought I'd share all the settings I use.

Same issue with newer version - having to delete emails twice. is anyone having email thread issues? now I can't see the entire email thread and when I forward an email it drops the thread as well. I checked settings and my Complete Threads is set to On. The only time I can see threads is if I enable Organize by Thread which is annoying and I never used before in past.

Agree this is a terrible bug to miss in testing.

Apple have given up in fixing this for us.

I am raging. Just received a call from my support agent. Engineering have responded and have said it’s not a Apple fault and for me to contact outlook. I stressed I had already contacted outlook and they won’t discuss/give any support for iOS mail only the official outlook app.

i mentioned the forum with 100s of users with the same issue, again referred to outlook for further support.

support agent said engineering had tested everything with iOS mail iCloud email works etc and basically said it’s a problem with outlook and not the Apple device.

contact outlook for support.

case closed

really don’t have anything else to say,. Shocking

That's silly. It's not an activesync issue, as multiple other clients that use activesync are fine (activesync is a type of connection to an Exchange mail server - i'm not sure if these issues are limited to activesync or not as that's all i use).

And maybe bigger picture, the MS email server is not called outlook. The server product is called Exchange. Outlook has nothing to do with this. Whomever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about.

(And the funny part is that the Outlook App works perfectly fine!)

I’m seeing this when connected to an office 365 account. Messages need to be opened twice to be marked as read. Also, new unread email needs to be deleted twice in order to actually be deleted. The problem began with iOS 13 and has persisted through 13.2. I’ve submitted feedback to Apple on every version upgrade in between. I have not received a response and the problem continues. Please submit bug reports for this and make some noise!

Try going in to your outlook or office 365 account and removing all mobile devices. Do this by opening outlook online then settings >all settings >General > mobile devices. Then remove the account from your phone through the passwords and accounts. Finally, add the account back.

This seemed to work for me so far.
