When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete

When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app (specifically a "live/Hotmail" account) in iOS 13, it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete. I have to press the delete button again for it to actually delete. Anyone else having issues with this? I deleted and re-added the affected account, but it still does it.

Thanks!

Try going in to your outlook or office 365 account and removing all mobile devices. Do this by opening outlook online from a computer web browser then go to settings >all settings >General > mobile devices. Then remove the account from your iPhone through the passwords and accounts. Finally, add the account back.

This seemed to work for me so far.

Sorry why are we as the end user responsible for this? We updated our devices to ios13 this was supplied by Apple and this update broke the mail app. Revert back to ios12 and mail works again, use a different mail client and mail works.

apple broke the mail app we are not responsible.

forgive me if I read your response wrongly

I am saying the end user is responsible for logging in to their mail account. Office 365/Outlook/Exchange or Gmail. They need to look at device management within their own account and make sure any duplicates or stale objects are removed. Apple cannot be expected for a software update to do this for you.

As I have suggested earlier, I have done this and the problems have gone away.

I worked with an Apple tech for over a half hour on this issue and did an extensive amount of troubleshooting. Apple was very receptive to this being an issue they need to address. Ultimately, once I updated my mail account and managed my devices, the problem was resolved.

I thought I had sorted my problems by upgrading to 13.2. It was short lived. I then did as you say and deleted my iPhone and iPad from devices in exchange admin online. I then deleted the accounts of both the iPhone and iPad. Rebooted the devices. Re-added the accounts. Immediately, the same problems returned. But worse. I have to delete emails twice again, but this time they are not in any specific order. I delete one, and the next email appears, exciting me as I think it actually deleted, only to find that after deleting a few more emails, the ones I deleted 5 or 6 emails previously suddenly need deleting again.

This is not an active sync bug. Apple have broken their mail app and are not making it compatible with active sync as they should.

Apple have not been helpful with me regarding this at all. Expecting me to do full restores on my devices etc. Not going to happen. Just fix the bug. It wasn't there in iOS 12, it is in iOS 13. They broke it. They need to fix it. People will go elsewhere. Apple used to have unofficial slogan "it just works". No longer the case.

That's ridiculous. This isn't an activesync problem. Activesync works just fine with the Outlook App, and 3 or 4 other mail apps I tried. It works fine with all of the android devices used in my office. Activesync didn't stop working for anything other than Apple devices the day that iOS 13 and iPad OS came out.

Apple broke something in their mail app -- it's on them to find the solution and share it with its customers.

I have the same issue. Sometimes the stock IOS mail app behaves itself and deletes the email on first attempt, other times it doesn’t. It definitely can’t be an active sync issue as when you swipe right on on an unread message and select the red delete option this always works correctly. It’s the delete option when reading a new mail that works when it feels like it. Surely if it were an Activesync issue then neither would work correctly!?

Same problem here since updating to iOS 13, so well over a month now.

Will it be fixed? Or is this it for Apple, downhill from here on..?

It is the most annoying thing to happen, and on another subject, they have totally ruined what used to be a simple, easy-to-use Health app.

Also hotmail keep sending so many of my regular emails to the junk folder, but I guess this is a hotmail issue.

Frustrated!!

This forum not to be monitored by Apple ??? If this is true Apple development/ support would be even worse than the one from Microsoft.

You are right Apple can not be responsible for something the end user does: installing IOS 13... (sarcasm). Double delete mail messages, mail body lost while forwarding or answering (need to start over several times) very annoying!

Of course, there is a lot changed in IOS 13. Almost not possible (now er days) to be bug free after such a major update. But please do not write such nonsense as Apple not monitoring this forum: the content should be a value in gold for Apple developers... So I at leaste HOPE you are wrong about this..

I have opened a ticket with Apple since the problem returned for me after all fixes were tried. I have submitted a enhanced log package plus screenshots and screen recording of the issue. This was done with a senior Apple tech. I was told I would get a call back on Tuesday regarding a resolution or notification of a patch. If you want Apple to listen, log a case. Apple engineers do not monitor these forums. Too much noise here for them to get valuable information. They need actual debugging information to do their job.

Nov 3, 2019 11:06 AM in response to MARK2620

So, following MARK2620's advice, I, too, launched a case with Apple Support. On the first call, I allowed them to do a screen connect. I was able to show him a sent message that displayed twice in the Sent folder. I had an empty Inbox and was unable to recreate the having-to-delete-twice issue that so many of us are plagued with. I was not willing to close the case so he suggested using the screen recording method so when I called back, the support person would have direct evidence of what we've all been experiencing. Since then, I captured numerous screen shots at 14 separate video recordings that clearly show problems with the Mail app.

So, today I called back and spoke to another support person. She said, paraphrasing, "Apple knows about the problem and is working to fix it." She then suggested the issue was with either my mail server or mail servers in general that weren't compatible with Apple's Mail app. What? My mail server (Exchange Server 2016) hasn't changed for the last couple of years and has been rock solid going back to at least iOS 11. I explained to her (at least in my case) this is not a mail server issue but a Mail App issue. Clearly, she doesn't know the difference. I asked to speak with a senior person and was given the same explanation again after which she ended the call without warning.

I've been a tech person going on three decades and am not one to complain much about technology because I know it's not perfect. This person needs a serious refresh on what standards I thought existed at Apple when speaking with real people over the phone.

On the bright side, I was told, "It'll be fixed in the next update." Not that I expected it, but she did not mention when this update would be coming.

Side note, iPadOS 13.2, I have one email that's in my Inbox despite the fact it's been deleted multiple times and still shows up. I've deleted and recreated the account, rebooted my iPad Pro, and looked at the moon sideways facing due north on one foot (ya, I'm desperate to try anything) to fix this issue. Bizarre.

Apple, you're known for your quality but this isn't it. How can such a core app break this bad after so many years?

Please, please do better.
