iOS 13 audio cuts out

Anyone else experiencing this? I am playing music from the music app and when I try to launch new apps or work in other apps, my phone’s audio output drops a few times before returning to normal. Also, audio sounds much louder in my headphones. At first, I thought this was an improvement but now it is annoying.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, restarting my phone and force quitting has not resolved the issue. I haven’t experienced it without using headphones but this has only been an issue since I updated to iOS 13. The volume situation has also remained the same. There are a few other bugs I should mention. When I press on a song, I have to wait a few seconds for it to start playing, whereas in iOS 12, the song immediately started. Also, the volume control button used to be remarkably smooth when I would drag it with my finger, but now it is occasionally unresponsive and stiff.

I’m sorry to report so many issues but I was highly impressed with how my phone was working before and now it is behaving rather oddly.

Thank you!

I'm experiencing these issues on my own personal phone (iPhone 7) and my work phone (iPhone 8). It's happening with both the native Music & Podcast apps and the Spotify app for me. I'm not prepared to factory reset because after experiencing the exact same issues on two separate phones I'm convinced it's the update. Factory reset is a huge amount of effort for something that seems unlikely to fix the issue. I was just trying to play a song on Spotify and without even touching my phone watched it jump to 11 seconds, then 22 seconds - I took the song back to the start and watched it do the same thing again - 10 seconds, then jumped to 20 seconds. Other times I'll be halfway through listening to a song and it'll jump to the next song on the list. Other times even with all music apps closed my phone will just start randomly playing music. It's as if it's possessed at times! On both phones I've also had Siri take over - again usually while trying to play music she pops up asking if she can help when I haven't even touched my phone - I've even turned her off in settings but she still pops up. When the Siri take over happens I have no choice but to restart my iPhone because she just won't go away once she starts and that does seem to help, for a while anyway. This is an issue with the update that Apple needs to fix and preferably sooner rather than later, have been putting up with it for a while now thinking any day they'll release a fix but this discussion thread goes back months!

I’ve got exactly the same problem and have had for the last few months (since iOS 13). It’s beyond infuriating. It’s rendering Apple Music completely unusable on some days... which is usually at least twice a week. I’m considering switching to Spotify premium because I object to paying for Apple Music and not being able to listen to what I want (including my own purchased music). I don’t seem to have any problem playing music with Spotify basic. I find it so hard to believe Apple haven’t fixed all the issues with iOS 13 yet. They are rampant. Please please please fix this. Seriously.

So when I updated my Iphone 7+ to the new IOS 13.3, the songs on Apple Music would skip and the Apple Music app was lagging. I actually found out how I could fix it and I wanted to share in case others were having the same problems.

I had to unfortunately turn off Siri.

When I did that, the song skipping stopped and the Apple Music app started up perfectly.

Sorry Siri, apparently with this new update, I can't use your services AND be able to listen to music.

Hopefully Apple with fix this soon!

Get this fixed. You’ve had months to work on it. I was dodging updating because of these bugs but my phone mysteriously updated a few nights ago while I was asleep and now this phone sucks. Audio cuts out every 20 seconds or so. Email doesn’t always come through and sometimes I’ll have to restart the phone to get it to work. The volume control lags and there is also a lag when trying to play songs and videos. This iPhone sucks now. Get it fixed.

I have exactly the same problem. While watching Facebook videos and other streaming the audio cuts out while video playing. I have to cycle the mute button off and on to get audio back. Very frustrating. I reinstalled Facebook app and it went away for some time but now the problem is back. It only seems to mostly happen when using wireless headphones.

Well the update stop my recordings from dumping down to inaudible but not it just stops playing in the middle of the song and screen goes blank. AND now my icons just disappear. The app is still there (in the black space) but the icon is not there. I find it deplorable on the level of problems in product and software since Jobs died. If your programmers cannot program get rid of them. This is from a guy who wrote Mac books, ran a news service for thousands of Mac user groups, and was a columnist in a Mac magazine. I do not brag about Apple anymore. It is just another fking company that cares about profit over product. I am looking constantly for the next Jobs and product so I can jump ship. Even though I love my Mac :)

Since the update I am unable to make phone calls, use my headphones when plugged into the jack, or watch videos with audio. My alarms also stop emitting audio after just a few seconds. When I open a video, the audio plays for a few seconds and then just stops while the video keeps streaming. Phone calls will not allow any audio at all, neither incoming or outgoing.

It seems like the Apple Reps are just not listening. This is very annoying!

for me music sound is fine. However when watching video clips either on FB, Youtube or others the sound is there for about 40 seconds then goes away. If I minimize the video the sound returns. I maximize and 30 seconds it goes away again.

As already stated this is an update issue not a phone issue. My phone is only two months old. Reading google this has become a common issue. Apple needs to do research and provide a fix update. All suggestions so far from Apple do not work. Apple needs to listen to its customers.

In my case the audio fades out suddenly after random while. Not cut out instantly, but quickly but noticeably fade out to zero volume. Then I need to manually resume playing. On Mixcloud or on Spotify - no matter. Also, for some reason the audio will not resume in the same place but from "some time before". It happens when I put the audio playing app to the background, do something else on the phone and for example, stop looking directly at the screen.

Maybe i'm wrong BUT I think it is connected with the option Settings -> FaceID and code -> Attention Aware Features. Turn it off.
