iOS 13 audio cuts out

Anyone else experiencing this? I am playing music from the music app and when I try to launch new apps or work in other apps, my phone’s audio output drops a few times before returning to normal. Also, audio sounds much louder in my headphones. At first, I thought this was an improvement but now it is annoying.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, restarting my phone and force quitting has not resolved the issue. I haven’t experienced it without using headphones but this has only been an issue since I updated to iOS 13. The volume situation has also remained the same. There are a few other bugs I should mention. When I press on a song, I have to wait a few seconds for it to start playing, whereas in iOS 12, the song immediately started. Also, the volume control button used to be remarkably smooth when I would drag it with my finger, but now it is occasionally unresponsive and stiff.

I’m sorry to report so many issues but I was highly impressed with how my phone was working before and now it is behaving rather oddly.

Thank you!

Okay... Yes, and recent updates to OS10 Catalina on MacBook Pro are buggy too. It is very frustrating considering how much Apple gadgets cost. Makes me wonder what I’m paying for. It is the design, the “look”, the “cool” factor methinks.

My advice?

Go straight to your closest Apple Genius Bar and DON’T let them fob you off. I’ve had a couple of issues over the years and persistence paid off eventually.

Tell them you want the reimbursment etc, ... I’d ask for a replacement phone.

I did this with an iPad a few years back because the charging function would simply cut out and I’d go back assuming it was charged up and it had cut out after 30% approx.

I went back 3 times and eventually said that i didn’t want this model (12.9 Pro 1st gen) and let them know that I was sick of coming back to the store all the time and what were they going to do about it.

They replaced the iPad with a gen 2, and, problem solved.

Good luck!

I contacted Apple and they sent me a loner and it did the same thing . I just kept mine because I knew I bought it new. Mine is dropping calls now. When I sent back the other phone I told them what I wanted to say. It’s a shame you spend that for a phone that you think will last for a few years. Mine is just a year old. I’m so sick of Apple thinking about changing.

I am having the same problem with the audio fading in the middle of all audio activities- podcasts, music, etc. It seems to respond to any change in surrounding sounds. So, if I turn the water on, or walk outside, or someone speaks in the room the audio fades out and then 5 seconds later it comes back. This is suboptimal UX. Rebooting does not help. Is there a setting I can change to fix this?

I've been having this problem since approximately the end of June 2020. I walk outdoors listening to audio books, and I thought the phone had become overly sensitive to motion. But after reading many comments, it might also be environmental noise. If I hold the phone in my hand instead of putting it in a pocket, the sound is more consistent--but I don't want to have to hold the phone in my hand for an hour or more. I'm using wired non-Apple ear buds.

I have noticed the audio drop-outs since the 13.6 update. Fairly regular intervals - Plays for about 10 seconds the drops for a second or two. Worst on live streams such as I-heart. Also notice it to a lesser degree in Apple music. Volume controls are also noticeably lagging.

I hope there is another release soon to deal with this.

I have the iPhone X and have tried the hard restart with no effect.

Had the same issue, sound cuts in and out I keep having my music go silent but the song keeps playing, even when I press on a song, I had to wait a few seconds for it to start playing.

Just update to IOS 13.6 and the problem has been solved.

Apple should be more careful about updating without observing problems that may cause to several Apple designed apps.

I’m having this problem and I thought that It was because I had not updated my software then I pinpointed it to the amazon app opening and closing because that is the only consistent failure I can find. I thought that it was a new Bluetooth speaker that I just bought and almost returned, but happened again when I was listening through my phone. I know that opening the Amazon app and closing the Amazon app will cut my audio off and I have tried everything from resetting my phone to deleting the app, went through my phone settings, I don’t know what makes it cut out randomly yet. This just started about a week ago. Any help?

I noticed just before the update and thought that it was because I needed to. Sometimes my phone acts weird if I don’t have the latest update from the “parents” but even with the new update every time I open and close Amazon my audio is going to cut out and it seems to be louder when it returns a couple seconds later.
