iPhone 11 Pro getting HOT
Just received my iPhone 11 Pro and after a few minutes of light use, the back and sides heat up to where I can barely hold the phone. Any ideas?

I have read through all posts and want to offer my 2 cents
My iphone 11 pro was normal until I started using the keynote app. It heated up real fast to a point that it is uncomfortably hot (within 1 min). Whenever I switch to other apps, the phone starts to cool. If I switch keynote on, phone starts cooking again. That’s obviously very weird, then I found this thread.
So following the discussion, I made sure my iOS is up to date on 13.1.1. Then I checked my “battery” tab in the settings, 10 min of using keynote consumed 15% battery, while the whole day of using other apps only make up 85%. Keynote is essential to me in my job, so deleting it is not an option. I also didn’t want to “reset all settings”. Instead, I closed settings>general>background app refresh. That totally fixed the problem
To sum up, here is what you can do if your phone is heating up abnormally

Just received my Pro yesterday. Also noticed after light use, the back just above the logo gets very warm. And just this morning I have sat on the couch and scrolled through Instagram for 10 minutes. 100% down to 86%. My 7+ that I upgraded from wouldn’t do this to me.
Slow charging on wireless charging. The iPhone is too hot to hold. I am a little mad spending the on a new phone to have these problem’s . I was not using the phone, nor was it charging. It was sitting on the nightstand when I picked it up to find it was hot.
Interesting you should send me that. As if my iPhone starting to get warm seconds after use and getting hot after just two minutes from imessaging and all other apps closed is normal. As if I should just deal with a hot phone because it’s not giving me a temperature warning. My iPhone 8 Plus never got hot. Never even got warm in fact, except on the rare occasion. This phone cost over a grand and I don’t think I should be dealing with a brand new iPhone that gets uncomfortably hot every time I want to use it for a couple minutes.
I looked up battery usage it’s one of the first things I did. I had one app using 20% battery and that was the highest one. I uninstalled that app, no change. Mind you, my phone does not get warm, it gets hot very quickly.
I don’t have the Facebook App btw. With all apps closed all I have to do is iMessage or browse the web for a couple minutes and my phone starts getting hot. I set up my mom’s Bluetooth in her car and her email account on her new 11 pro max today and hers started heating up too, just like mine. My sister got the 11 pro max as well and says hers never even gets warm.
Me too. All I’ve done is set up the iPhone 11 Pro and that’s it I haven’t even used it and it’s heated up so much. The back and sides are extremely hot then all of a sudden it’s switched off with a black screen and the timer thing going round and round and round. Can’t even force it to shut down or anything and it’s getting hotter. Not impressed at all. Hope it doesn’t catch fire !!
My iPhonePro Max is also getting v v v hot, simply using email and wechat.
When I make a call it gets very hot as well.
If I leave it on the side for 20 or 30 minutes it just continues with this heat issue...
Im not sure what to do here.. its been a while since I had an iPhone and Im not sure its meant to be a mini heater. Its no longer summer weather but I worry this phone could overheat in hot temperatures.
Should I take it back? It only has 4 apps on it and none of them are unusual (gmail/ telegram/ wechat/ whatsapp). I didnt even migrate from an older phone.
Hmmmmmm....
Hi! Thank you for getting back to me on that :)
I just checked it out in battery- its using 85% of the battery.
Does this mean I cant use it?
I live in China so if iPhone can't use this application, I'd have to move away or get a phone that can..!
Thanks,
It shouldn’t matter if an app is using a lot of power or not. You should be able to use your phone and the apps in it without it getting so hot that it cant be held. You really are not helping anyone with all your post. There is obviously an issue that Apple needs to address and issue a fix.
Which is why once the phone exceeds a certain temperature, it will shut down.
Otherwise there's nothing Apple can do without depriving apps that actually need it of the full processing power of the chip.
You are no help I’m not even sure why you are commenting. The point is that these apps should work without the phone getting so hot. I have owned IPhones since the first one. This has never been an issue no matter which app I was using.
None of my apps used excessive battery and my phone was getting hot. It is not a “runaway third party app.” When people are saying their phones were hot right out of the box, pre setup it is not a third party app that is causing it to heat up as you keep suggesting.
You act like jshaneevans isn’t allowed to comment. He’s allowed to comment just like the rest of us so I don’t know why you’re so worked up over it. He’s suggesting that certain apps shouldn’t be causing the phone to over heat and I happen to agree with him since that isn’t the problem on my phone.
It IS a problem for a lot of us, not only because it is getting too hot to hold (I use a hands-free stand while working on my phone). It is getting hot enough that it is causing the cpu to slow down and lag!

Hi Team,
Even after updating to ios 13.1.2, my iphone 11 pro still heats up a lot whenever on network, on charging, wifi search and etc.
Aside this, I am getting application issues with Instagram and others as well. Please see attached snapshot for reference.
seeing these many issues, I was quite happy with iphone 10 earlier.
thanks
