iPhone 11 Pro getting HOT

Just received my iPhone 11 Pro and after a few minutes of light use, the back and sides heat up to where I can barely hold the phone. Any ideas?

I have read through all posts and want to offer my 2 cents

My iphone 11 pro was normal until I started using the keynote app. It heated up real fast to a point that it is uncomfortably hot (within 1 min). Whenever I switch to other apps, the phone starts to cool. If I switch keynote on, phone starts cooking again. That’s obviously very weird, then I found this thread.

So following the discussion, I made sure my iOS is up to date on 13.1.1. Then I checked my “battery” tab in the settings, 10 min of using keynote consumed 15% battery, while the whole day of using other apps only make up 85%. Keynote is essential to me in my job, so deleting it is not an option. I also didn’t want to “reset all settings”. Instead, I closed settings>general>background app refresh. That totally fixed the problem

To sum up, here is what you can do if your phone is heating up abnormally

  1. make sure it’s running the latest iOS
  2. check which app consumed the most energy under settings>battery>battery usage by app, delete the problematic app if it’s not essential
  3. close the “background refresh” of that app (check other battery saving tips online, it could be other tricks)
  4. if none of the above worked, reset all setting (settings>general>reset>reset all settings)
  5. still no luck, contact apple for replacement

Well... my iPhone 11 arrived today! It was working great for about 3 hours... but then I got a message stating that the phone was too hot and needed to cool down (*insert explicative of choice*). I waited about 5 min, but when I realized the message wasn't going to go away, I decided to just turn the phone off. Ironically, the phone never felt hot. After a generous 10 minutes, I turned the phone back on. As soon as the apple logo disappeared, I was greeted with a new message... a message stating that the battery was not recognized as a genuine apple battery and that apple had been notified.

Say what?!

I turned the phone off again, and then on, only to be greeted by the same message over and over again. The phone actually now cycles off/on all by itself about every 5 minutes. I tried plugging it in (using the usb-c supplied apple charger) and the phone is no longer indicating that it is charging. In fact, the battery symbol, which used to read about 76%, was now showing a red "low battery" status. I jumped on Apple chat, but Desiree (at least she was nice) couldn't help remedy the issue. Nonetheless, this guy is now waiting for a Genius Bar visit tomorrow afternoon. While I usually don't mind hanging out at the apple store, I'm just not thrilled about the hassle that will surely ensue. Hopefully they have a new phone in stock and will make my life easy with a simple swap out (fingers crossed!).

By the way, I am running 13.1.2. and I can't get my phone to connect to iTunes (let alone stay on long enough) in order to do a factory reset.

I’ve had the phone for over a week and I’m very unhappy with it. I have only chrome open and I’m surfing the web and my phone is hot like I’m editing 4K video. My battery life has been terrible as well, which is expected when your phone is running hot.

Good thing I got apple care because I’m not going to be able to deal with this for 2 years. My hand is uncomfortable and sweating just holding it. For an $1100 “pro” product, this is totally unacceptable!

Yeah this is happening to me as well. When the phone gets hot it also stops charging. It's intermittent and doesn't happen every time it's plugged it. When it gets hot it's hot from the top of the phone to the bottom. And it's not like it's getting hot from adding a whole bunch of battery life quickly. Today it got really hot over 1/2 hour and only added 2% to the battery.

Not quite painful to touch but almost and extending the full length and width of the phone.

This feels like a problem. How do we get an answer?

I have just upgraded to IOS 13.2 and now my phone is overheating. Wasn’t doing it before. Really disappointed with all the bugs in this new iPhone 11. Really don’t expect such basic problems after years of running and improving IOS. Really, really disappointing. Just running sudoku app for about 10 seconds and my phone overheats.

Just received also my iPhone 11 Pro and after a few minutes of light use, the back start to get hot, I don’t want to be disappointed because it’s a lot of money. And spending money for the phone you think you deserve seems like it’s not worth the wait and the price. I’m a iPhone user since I had my first IPhone 2011 til I have this iPhone 11 Pro I thought I will be satisfied but now I’m getting disappointed, I waited my order 2 months, and this is my surprise.

1 week after my friend got his iphone 11 pro max, it overheated while he was watching netflix. after 1 hour, the phone shut down and it would not cool down or turn on. the whole phone was burning hot. after 3 hours, it would still not cool down and we tried turning on the phone again in which it failed again... he brought it to the apple store and they could not turn it on either. Today i was trying to take photos with my phone (also 11 pro max) and the camera part started heating up a little (feels warm). my phone constantly warms up so fast and i got my phone last month. my battery health is at 99% already from just yesterday using my phone for less than 10 minutes of it heating up. why is the battery health 99%?? I literally just got this phone late October. Keep in mind i never charge overnight and i don't use my phone when it is charging. The 11 pro max battery is so sensitive and not as good as apple said it would be. My battery goes down so fast compared to 2 weeks ago. I see problems with this phone since the 2nd week i got it.

I just got the 11 Pro yesterday and I seriously don’t like this phone. It gets HOT! I removed it from the case and it didn’t help. I’m also having issues with apps running incredibly slow as well as freezing up. I purchased the pro for the better camera. It was a ridiculous price to pay for a phone that is giving off this much heat and runs this slowly. I will be going back to the Apple store. My 6s that I had up until yesterday was better. This is not acceptable.
