iPhone 11 Pro getting HOT

Just received my iPhone 11 Pro and after a few minutes of light use, the back and sides heat up to where I can barely hold the phone. Any ideas?

My wife got hers yesterday and we were quite amazed at the amount of heat put off by this phone while transferring data and settings from her iPhone 8 Plus. I thought it would get better after the setup, but even normal use and charging, it still gets pretty warm. I hope this isn't a sign of problems to come. I can't think that this heat issue would be good for battery life.

Hi Team,

Even after updating to ios 13.1.2, my iphone 11 pro still heats up a lot whenever on network, on charging, wifi search and etc.

Aside this, I am getting application issues with Instagram and others as well. Please see attached snapshot for reference.

seeing these many issues, I was quite happy with iphone 10 earlier.

thanks

This is a brand new device, so no, you don't know what is normal for it.

These phones have much more powerful processors in them, which generate much more heat when they are heavily loaded.

Also, especially during an install of a new phone and after an iOS update, you can expect high CPU usage and shortened battery life for about the first 24 hours as all the Spotlight indices on the phone need to be rebuilt so you can find things when you search.

If the phone didn't shut down because it got too hot:

it's within the normal operating parameters for the phone.

Resetting all settings to factory standard is a real pain in the but. I did that for a work install and I was updating settings and passwords for a week after. Couldn’t even use my Apple TV because of course I lost the tiny remote and couldn’t establish connection without it. So far, none of these options to fix the over heating issue sound appealing to me. For the money I spent I should not be dealing with a hot phone after minimal use and nothing new downloaded. It should just work right?

I have an 11 Pro Max. Definitely gets warm on normal use (more so than my previous iPhone 8 Plus) but it gets abnormally hot when using google maps. Apple maps is better in terms of heat but it still warms up significantly. Having spent over a $1000, this is really annoying. Im seeing some people are having luck resetting the phone so I’ll try that tonight and check back in later to update y’all as to whether that worked or not.

Me and my mom both got the 11 pro max. Both our phones are overheating. I had the 8 plus and NEVER had this problem. Just imessaging or web browsing with all other apps closed the screen, back and sides heat up within mere minutes. I called Verizon and they walked me through some tests. Had me factory reset my phone for nothing, still overheating. I updated to IOS 13.1 a couple hours ago, still overheating. I’ve been working with Verizon for a replacement and now I’m going to have to have my mom’s replaced since I just found out she’s having the same problems.

Interesting you should send me that. As if my iPhone starting to get warm seconds after use and getting hot after just two minutes from imessaging and all other apps closed is normal. As if I should just deal with a hot phone because it’s not giving me a temperature warning. My iPhone 8 Plus never got hot. Never even got warm in fact, except on the rare occasion. This phone cost over a grand and I don’t think I should be dealing with a brand new iPhone that gets uncomfortably hot every time I want to use it for a couple minutes.
