iPhone 11 Pro getting HOT
Just received my iPhone 11 Pro and after a few minutes of light use, the back and sides heat up to where I can barely hold the phone. Any ideas?

I have read through all posts and want to offer my 2 cents
My iphone 11 pro was normal until I started using the keynote app. It heated up real fast to a point that it is uncomfortably hot (within 1 min). Whenever I switch to other apps, the phone starts to cool. If I switch keynote on, phone starts cooking again. That’s obviously very weird, then I found this thread.
So following the discussion, I made sure my iOS is up to date on 13.1.1. Then I checked my “battery” tab in the settings, 10 min of using keynote consumed 15% battery, while the whole day of using other apps only make up 85%. Keynote is essential to me in my job, so deleting it is not an option. I also didn’t want to “reset all settings”. Instead, I closed settings>general>background app refresh. That totally fixed the problem
To sum up, here is what you can do if your phone is heating up abnormally

I am having the same issue contacted support and they advised me to do a restore through itunes, ontop of that my battery life is draining abnormally fast. After just 4 hours of me making 2 phone calls lasting less than 10 minutes and listening to spotify while at the gym. Also noted i have my iwatch and head phones at the gym, with apple boasting about the 17hrs of battery life while watching videos i am not pleased with the results in the last two days of owning this phone. The only reason why i contacted support is due to my wife telling me her iphone 11 does not have that issue and finding out this morning shes been streaming music and taking phone calls at work she is at 94% and she has been up since 0400..... I hope the restore fixes the issue i will check back in after a day or two of doing so!
My own was getting uncomfortably hot/warm when I use the Facebook app. So I kept deleting app and installing again. Then I read your post and tried resetting all settings. That seems to be the solution. Thank you
Download the status app & check if you cpu is running at 100%.
If it is then that is the reason for the high temperature & probably not a faulty battery just a faulty iOS but you need to check the cpu usage.
Mine does this also and I contacted them and was told to check for the next few days to see if it heats up when it isn't plugged in. For me it only heats up if I use it while charging it(not wireless charging But plugged into the wall). Once I quit using it plugged in it stopped heating up
Did it shut down with a message that it was too hot or did it shut down/reboot because of the battery not able to supply enough power?
If its the first one I would take it back to Apple & tell them the phone is faulty.
If its the second one then you will have to wait until one of the updates actually manages to fix the faulty iOS 13.
You never know iOS 14 might be the saviour or it might just be the same crap in a different wrapper!!!!!!
I had this problem, I got my phone checked by apple service center, it had manufacturing problems in sound chip and charging chip, they replaced it as these problems can not be fixed, my advice for everyone get your phone checked by apple as soon as possible
Hello,
In this condition you need or require to make the phone temperature down by placing phone in to some cooler atmosphere or in air conditioning room(not in refrigerator). If you are using any type of iphone cover then remove that cover until it get cooler down.
To know that your iphone contains some major problem or not then you can check that by getting notification of over temperature or iphone needs to be cooled down. If you get this notification then your iphone is in problem.
You can try another way as open iphone camera and try to turn on the Flash light and capture image. If iphone says “iphone need to be cooled down to use the flash light” then you have to turn off your device and wait till the temperature gets down.
Else:
You have to check your battery optimisation
you can get more details about from the Official link:

Thanks.
Agreed. Id rather have a less powerful processor and a normal temperature phone, then the world fastest processor that runs too hot in my hands and pocket. Apple replaced my too-hot phone, as it was within warranty. Ill update in a few weeks to post how this is goung, but you may want to call support. Good luck to you- this shouldnt happen like this.
It's not a matter of "too much" running in the background as it usually is one app that is improperly written and is stuck in a loop.
Quite often you can tell which one by going to Settings -> Battery and seeing which app has been using more battery than it should.
It has now sorted itself out. It became very hot at the start up when I started to transfer data and apps from old to new device. It started to cool down after 48 hours. Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips and comments.
Go to the T-Mobile / sprint store and tell them ya want a new phone and tell them what happened .ya could also call or chat by texting them .they should be able to help ya .same thing happened to me and I got another one but now this one is getting hot when used for a long time .guess I will go back to store and see if I can just get a new one from the store .(my phones were shipped to me ) .
I received my iPhone 11 Pro on Friday and notice my phone getting hot while using GPS on Saturday and then again on Monday. It was uncomfortably hot and to hold. I took it to Apple Monday evening and they informed me that as long as the phone doesn’t shut down or give the the too hot alert then it is fine. I still think something is wrong and I will keep a close eye on this.
Interesting. My battery is pretty much flat after 4 hours of me barely using it too.
My phone is almost too hot to hold. When I first turned it on I genuinely couldn’t hold it!
I rang o2 today and they’ve issued me a replacement...

If your phone is truly overheating, you will see this:
That having been said, if your merchant is willing to replace your device, feel free to do so.
i had that extreme overheating problem for several month after I got my new iPhone 11Pro.
I purchased an Otter Defender case ASAP to protect me from the extreme heat of my iPhone 11Pro ( as well as to quell my fears that the heat would cause the battery to swell like it did on my iPhone 5S, and quite possibly catch fire or explode). The Otter Defender case is like armor, so it keeps the heat at a level I can tolerate. Plus it keeps me safe.
Then, I started to re-boot every night. Of course that requires re-entering some passwords every time , which can be quite annoying, but that seemed to lessen the heat a bit more . Since I did those things , although I can feel some heat at times, my phone rarely overheats to the point where it could be dangerous. To say this is a reasonable fix, it is not , but it keeps me safe and keeps my phone intact.
