iPhone 11 Pro getting HOT
Just received my iPhone 11 Pro and after a few minutes of light use, the back and sides heat up to where I can barely hold the phone. Any ideas?

I have read through all posts and want to offer my 2 cents
My iphone 11 pro was normal until I started using the keynote app. It heated up real fast to a point that it is uncomfortably hot (within 1 min). Whenever I switch to other apps, the phone starts to cool. If I switch keynote on, phone starts cooking again. That’s obviously very weird, then I found this thread.
So following the discussion, I made sure my iOS is up to date on 13.1.1. Then I checked my “battery” tab in the settings, 10 min of using keynote consumed 15% battery, while the whole day of using other apps only make up 85%. Keynote is essential to me in my job, so deleting it is not an option. I also didn’t want to “reset all settings”. Instead, I closed settings>general>background app refresh. That totally fixed the problem
To sum up, here is what you can do if your phone is heating up abnormally

Resetting all settings worked for me with regards to the overheating problem
I received my iPhone 11 Pro on Friday and notice my phone getting hot while using GPS on Saturday and then again on Monday. It was uncomfortably hot and to hold. I took it to Apple Monday evening and they informed me that as long as the phone doesn’t shut down or give the the too hot alert then it is fine. I still think something is wrong and I will keep a close eye on this.
I have an 11 Pro Max. Definitely gets warm on normal use (more so than my previous iPhone 8 Plus) but it gets abnormally hot when using google maps. Apple maps is better in terms of heat but it still warms up significantly. Having spent over a $1000, this is really annoying. Im seeing some people are having luck resetting the phone so I’ll try that tonight and check back in later to update y’all as to whether that worked or not.
Interesting. My battery is pretty much flat after 4 hours of me barely using it too.
My phone is almost too hot to hold. When I first turned it on I genuinely couldn’t hold it!
I rang o2 today and they’ve issued me a replacement...

If your phone is truly overheating, you will see this:
That having been said, if your merchant is willing to replace your device, feel free to do so.
”Go to setting > general > reset > reset all settings.” worked for the overheating on my iPhone 11 Pro! I got it today and was wondering the whole day is it would persist. Thanks for the solution. My battery went low today pretty quickly as well but could have been from the data migration and downloading apps. Hopefully will be fine.
My Pro max got very warm the other day after the phone rang. I turned it to silent and slipped it in my pocket. A half hour later I took the phone out from my side pocket to find it very very warm and shut down. The phone would not turn back on without a master reset. This on IOS 13.1. Once the reset process was finished the phone cooled off and was working normal again. This kind of thing never happened with my Xs max. I’m still a bit concerned however.
That is not at all normal unless you only have one bar of signal strength.
I have made several cell phone calls of over an hour in an area with three bars of signal and my phone is barely warmer than room temperature.
Go to “Accessibility” then “Display and Text Size”. Turn off Auto Brightness. That’ll brighten up the screen. Also make sure to turn off “True Tone” under “Display and Brightness” if you don’t want it to look dingy.
i had that extreme overheating problem for several month after I got my new iPhone 11Pro.
I purchased an Otter Defender case ASAP to protect me from the extreme heat of my iPhone 11Pro ( as well as to quell my fears that the heat would cause the battery to swell like it did on my iPhone 5S, and quite possibly catch fire or explode). The Otter Defender case is like armor, so it keeps the heat at a level I can tolerate. Plus it keeps me safe.
Then, I started to re-boot every night. Of course that requires re-entering some passwords every time , which can be quite annoying, but that seemed to lessen the heat a bit more . Since I did those things , although I can feel some heat at times, my phone rarely overheats to the point where it could be dangerous. To say this is a reasonable fix, it is not , but it keeps me safe and keeps my phone intact.
I and others here have continued to say if you believe there is something wrong with your phone, contact Apple Support directly.
They are the only ones who can do anything for you:

This is not an official support channel; the link above is.
Only thing to do is get a heavy protective case ( mine is Otter
Defender) , clear out your webpages daily (go to https://webtrickz.com/close-apps-on-iphone-11/ to find out how . Then, reboot your iPhone ever few days, charge your phone at night, and your phone will not feel hot any more
Did you see my other posts? Apple replaced my first, HOT, iPhone 11, still under warranty. Why is Apple not resolving your issue, when they resolved this for me? My replacement phone, thus far, runs cool, as it should!. I‘m tired of hearing of all of these accounts of Apple Support - not coming through for their customers - it’s wrong.. They should do you the same solid they did, me, by replacing your unreasonably HOT phone, as well. Screenshot this post And send THIS and all of my posts on This topic, to the next tech support person you speak with- maybe you can get some movement in the right direction.

I was having the same issue did some reading about the processor and it mentioned to much running in the background. I swiped up and cleared all my other apps that were running in the background and it cooled off within literal seconds. I hope this helps
