iPhone 11 Pro getting HOT
Just received my iPhone 11 Pro and after a few minutes of light use, the back and sides heat up to where I can barely hold the phone. Any ideas?

I have read through all posts and want to offer my 2 cents
My iphone 11 pro was normal until I started using the keynote app. It heated up real fast to a point that it is uncomfortably hot (within 1 min). Whenever I switch to other apps, the phone starts to cool. If I switch keynote on, phone starts cooking again. That’s obviously very weird, then I found this thread.
So following the discussion, I made sure my iOS is up to date on 13.1.1. Then I checked my “battery” tab in the settings, 10 min of using keynote consumed 15% battery, while the whole day of using other apps only make up 85%. Keynote is essential to me in my job, so deleting it is not an option. I also didn’t want to “reset all settings”. Instead, I closed settings>general>background app refresh. That totally fixed the problem
To sum up, here is what you can do if your phone is heating up abnormally

I got my iPhone 11 Pro in November 2019 and had issues with it from the very beginning. First, I live 2 hours from the nearest Apple store and so I can’t just run up there any time I have an issue, I am really good about doing what I can at home, last resort is calling Apple support because they aren’t helpful at all by telling me to go 2 hours to a store. So I go to the store, it doesn’t overheat in the store so that was a wasted trip. The next week, same issue. This time I call, not very happy but still was patient and went through all the possibilities and the tech talked to me like I was lying about my phone over heating. I don’t have time for that, but I still was patient. Nothing was resolved but the overheating went away on its own like it had the first time. It’s continuously getting super hot and no, not while charging (been asked that a million times) yet Apple refuses to do anything to fix this problem let alone take into consideration that not only do I not have time to keep driving 4 hour round trips to get my phone looked at, but that costs money and I’m so frustrated with how quick they are to say well just mail it then OR the most inconvenient “offer” to put a charge on a credit card for the amount of a brand new iPhone 11 Pro, they will send a replacement and the charge will be pending on the account til they either fix the phone or let you keep the replacement. It is very upsetting and I’ve had apple products for 10 years now and never been disappointed with customer service nor have I ever had so many issues with an iPhone until this past year. This overheating issue needs to be addressed and fixed before someone gets hurt. It gets that hot!
i Just received my iPhone and it is also getting very hot after only using for a couple of minutes. I don’t want to pay over a thousand bucks for a phone that doesn’t work properly and is too hot to hold!
You obviously don’t have a phone with this problem. I don’t know anything about phone batteries or why some catch on fire but I know that some do and I’m guessing it’s the battery. So you don’t know that the phone gets hot in seconds. Not minutes, seconds. Definitely not normal. My hands would be sweating when I would handle my phone in this state. Something is wrong with some of these iPhones that some people here refuse to acknowledge. I wonder why.
Sometimes my phone gets hot for really no reason. Same when charging. Right now I plugged it in and it’s really hot. This is BS for the amount of money I paid for this thing. It hasn’t even been a full year! Also, I noticed decreased battery already.
This is being said over and over again but is not the answer. The point that is being made is that this never happened with other versions of the iPhone and is now happening with the iPhone 11. The apps have not changed to target the iPhone 11 to specifically heat up when it doesn’t do this on any other phone! And this heating up is not the normal kind of heating up. It is extreme and if people have read previous comments they will see that taking it in to an Apple store is not the answer as they have no idea either and just keep saying the exact same things as the above comment. It is a disgrace on Apple’s part that they are totally ignoring this issue yet still declaring unbelievable results for the company.
I just received my iPhone 11 pro abut 2 days ago and I'm experiencing the same issue. My phone gets super hot and it is unbearable to touch. It makes me believe there is something wrong with the battery. This is definitely abnormal, I need a new phone asap.
I forgot to give an update. So I used “System Status” as suggested and my battery life was fine but my phone was still getting hot. I ended up switching the iPhone 11 Pro for the iPhone 11 Pro Max and it’s been a better experience thus far. Thanks for your help!
I’ve had my iPhone 11pro max for about a month and I’ve noticed mine tends to glitch and start over heating and it shuts off by its self While still getting hotter from the back and the sides and the front screen Should I take it back to att and have them replace it or fix the issues ! Idk what to do
I just bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max it arrived this morning set it up and finished at around 12pm. Baring in mind I’ve been at work for 4:15-8:15 and it’s already heating up and I’m only on a phone call not impressed got a new phone because my old one overheats and shows the alert for this my new phone is hot when charging especially the charger itself! I’m so annoyed by this as the one main reason I got this phone was because of the overheating issue I had with the iPhone 7 after it had been dropped. Considering this is a new and improved phone it’s not impressing me with the heat at all😓
I purchased a regular 11 last week. I was on apple news for about 20 minutes this morning with 100% charge. It was in my pocket for the rest of the day. At about one in the afternoon it felt really hot in my pocket. I pulled it out and the screen was frozen too. I put it in the fridge for a few minutes to try to cool it down. The temperature went down but the screen was still unresponsive. I did a hard reboot (up volume press and release- down volume press and release- right button hold) which restarted the phone. The screen was working again but the battery life was down to 50%. I checked the battery settings and it lost 50% in about an hour and a half with no apps running and the phone locked. It claims the battery is still perfect. I have all the latest updates. What’s the deal Apple?
I bought an Apple 11 phone from a famous Sri Lankan trader in Colombo named Greenware this year. I was experiencing overheating and low speaker volume when watching movies and listening to music during the corona lockdown period. I was unable to visit the store and complaint as Sri Lanka was on lockdown mode so I recently went and spoke to them. They said to bring the phone after 3 months. Still my warranty is valid. I was a loyal Apple user and I am quite disappointed about this issue and I want Apple to inspect the phone and fix the issue as soon as possible.
I just opened my new iPhone 11 and I just transferred all my data into the phone didn't use it that much. So I charge it for the first time, and the battery feels like's it's burning up. Is this normal?
This is my 4th iPhone, have NEVER had a phone get this hot, so seriously, no, this is not “Normal”. This happens when the phone isn’t even in use, and the battery was at half life within 4 hours without even being used. I am in tech support, and work with Apple products exclusively, I pretty much know what I’m talking about.
“New powerful processor” that gets so hot it prevents you from using your phone!
My point is, it doesn’t matter about the processor or the device type/model. My first priority is I should be able to hold my phone and use it, to feel physically uncomfortable holding a hot phone Where it hurts your hands after a while. This is a HUGE issue.
Same here.
Just measured mine at 42º C / 107.6º F, with some hotspots around the camera at 48º
Not charging, not under sunlight, room temperature 24ºC, screen brightness around 40%
Consuming basically video via WIFI with audio via bluetooth, which usually doesn't even gets noticeable warm.
