Issue with syncing Audible from iPhone to Apple Watch since updating to IOS 13 and Watch 6

Get "Paired Apple watch is not responding" message. Message suggests putting watch on charger (it is there!), making sure Airplane mode is not enabled (it isn't) and reconnecting watch and phone (I have). Have uninstalled and reinstalled Audible, etc., etc. Nothing seems to work. Watch indicates that it is connected to the phone and other things work okay.

I got this message back from Tech Support:

Hello Judith,

Thank you for contacting Audible. My name is Gustavo I am Tier 3 Technical Support Lead assigned to your escalation regarding your Apple Watch not syncing with the Audible app. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

• Both the paired Apple iPhone and Apple Watch are in proximity and both connected to their chargers as the syncing process requires 50% or more of charge

• Both iPhone and Watch are connected to the same wireless network

Note: If the wireless router supports dual-band and if the iPhone is connected to a 5G Wi-Fi network, proceed to change it to the 2.4G network to match the Watch's connection. Avoid attempting to sync content while connected to a public Wi-Fi network (like Starbucks) or restricted networks.

• The OS versions on both devices are up-to-date

Apple iPhone: iOS 13

Watch OS: 6

Audible app version: 3.10.3

• Disconnect any Bluetooth headsets from the iPhone's Settings section

• If the content to sync has a large file size, it may be best to start the syncing process in the evening so it is done overnight and also, download the audiobook in parts instead of single file. Sync one file/content at a time.

If the issue persists, perform the following steps:

Watch:

1. Press the Digital Crown to go to the Home screen and view your app list.

Note: If your app list is in List View, press firmly on the display to change it back to Grid View. You cannot delete apps in List View.

2. Lightly press and hold an app icon until it goes dark and begins to wiggle.

3. Swipe around the screen to find Audible then tap it.

4. Tap Delete App.

5. Press the Digital Crown to exit Edit mode and turn off Apple Watch.

iPhone:

1. Cancel any pending downloads by choosing Device from My Library, swiping the respective titles from right to left then tapping Remove from Device.

If you cannot sign in, tap Try App from the Amazon login screen to access the application.

2. Tap Profile (silhouette icon in the top left) -or- More, then tap Settings.

3. Scroll to the bottom, tap and hold one finger for 10 to 15 seconds on the Audible version until you get a 'Reset Sign In' prompt.

4. Tap Sign Out in the prompt then tap Sign Out in the top right corner.

5. Tap the Home button twice to view running apps then swipe each app upwards to force close them.

6. Press and hold the Top (or Side) button until the slider appears then drag the slider to turn off the device.

7. Press and hold the Top (or Side) button again until you see the Apple logo to restart.

8. Once back on, turn off Bluetooth by tapping Settings > Bluetooth and toggle the option off.

9. Turn on Apple Watch.

10. Make sure iPhone and Watch are next to each other for better syncing.

11. Launch Watch on iPhone then tap "My Watch."

12. Under Available Apps, tap Install next to Audible.

13. Once Audible is installed on Apple Watch, launch Audible on the iPhone, sign in then tap Device.

14. If the title is already downloaded, tap the overflow menu button (3 horizontal dots next to the downloaded title) and select "Sync to Apple Watch." If not, download the title in full from Cloud first.

15. Verify that the content is now syncing. Once synced, verify that it plays without incident.

If you encounter the alert message "Paired Apple Watch is not responding" that appears when transferring a book, this is expected if there is no transfer progress within 40 seconds to 80 seconds; if the file transfer resumes the app will automatically dismiss the alert. Also, if both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network while syncing your audiobooks, exit the Audible app and disable Bluetooth from the Settings app. This will force audiobooks to sync over the Wi-Fi network, which is usually faster than Bluetooth syncing (depending on your network speed).

I appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter. If you have any questions, please do no hesitate to reply to this email.

Have a great day!

I had already tried all those things and none had previously worked. But thought I'd post their response in case anyone else still having issues. As I mentioned above, a book eventually downloaded to my phone although it took longer than previously.

I believe you may have posted a question regarding a different issue. This discussion is regarding syncing an audiobook from the iOS Audible App to a users Apple Watch. If you’re having issues regarding updating your iPhone 6s to iOS 13.3.1, please read this article, as it contains detailed instructions as well as instructions for update issues. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204204

Yep, having same issue. Spent about an hour with a very helpful Apple rep troubleshooting, capturing logs etc without success. A call to Audible’s tech support confirm they’re looking into an issue with their App. Was told to expect an email in a couple of days. I hope this gets resolved quickly as this is a favorite service I was planning to use with my new Series 5.

I just spent an hour on the phone with Audible over this very issue. I am on iOS 13 on an iPhone X. I have tried everything even wiping the watch clean and starting over and resetting network settings.

Audible finally wrote me a ticket and said that they will contact me within 24 hours… So I guess I’m going to go for my work out with my phone Today. 🙄

Based on an earlier reply, I tried to keep ignoring the warning on the iPhone that the watch could not be repaired. I believe I repeatedly tapped on close. Eventually, I discovered that the entire audiobook had successfully transferred to the watch. I don’t know if this positive experience was a fluke, but others may wish to try it.

I just received my new, just released Apple Watch and have the same problem with Audible syncing a book from my iPhone X. I have tried all of the suggestions and cannot get past the 100% content prepared but 0% synced. This is one of the main reasons I purchased the Apple Watch - to track my workouts and listen to books on long walks without carrying my iPhone.

I also have this problem. I believe it is an Audible issue. On rare occasion when leaving the on the charger overnight it syncs. However, in one case a book showed on the iphone app as having synced to the watch but it wasn’t showing up on the watch. I could never close the “how to “ screen on the watch. After I finished the book on the iPhone, I removed it from the device and watch. Later I tried to sync another book, but got the same error. Then I looked at my watch and the previous book now shows up. Yet I couldn’t close the book opening screen with the close tab. I eventually tapped on the book and it brought up the play screen. Now I see the book in my library. Unfortunately, I can’t delete that old book off my watch because it doesn’t show up in my iPhone app.

Wow!! That stinks!! I didn't believe it when I first read what you wrote, but you're right! I checked it and it's totally gone. Now there is no option to "sync to watch." Hopefully, this is simply a step in the direction of fixing this QUICKLY. Otherwise, I'd rather have the flawed software ... as eventually it worked. Thank goodness I downloaded Salman Rushdie's new book to my phone successfully last night or I'd be pretty angry. It will probably take me a week to ten days to finish Quichotte. Praying that they get the app/software fixed by the time I'm ready for a new book.
