iPhone 11 Pro Max 4G LTE Signal Issue

The new iPhone 11 Pro Max loses 4G signal from time to time (every a few minutes) when the Wi-Fi is off or no valid Wi-Fi hot spot is nearby.

Wi-Fi is off: The 4G signal drops to null in a sudden, and restores to full (4 bars) in 2-3 seconds. This happens regularly.

Wi-Fi is connected: The bars are steady - stay at 4 all the time.

I have tried:

  1. Disable Auto Network Selection
  2. Reset Network Settings
  3. Reset All Settings
  4. Reset All Content and Settings

None of them shows promising improvement.

I just got back from Apple Store and they swapped out my phone for a new one and the problem was fixed!!!

I would suggest doing these steps first before you go to Apple Store:

1) Call your cell company to debug first. Apple is going to say since it’s cell service issue and it’s not Apple problem. Cell company is going to go through list of debugging issues (reset network settings, etc) to see if that fixes your issues. If that doesn’t fix, continue debugging steps below.

2) Do a screen record of your phone dropping the cellular connection as evidence of you having issues just in case you’re in the Apple store and you can’t reproduce the issue.

3) Backup your phone. I used my laptop to backup because it restores much faster that way than going through WiFi.

4) Do a full wipe of your phone and set up your phone as a new phone (don’t restore from backup). This way you can see if your cellular issues are from software or from hardware.

4) Test our your phone and see if you are experiencing same issues.

5) If your cell connection is still dropping, take it into the Apple Store.

Good luck! I feel this is for sure a hardware issue for most people!

I just upgraded my wife and I to the iPhone 11 Pro Max from the iPhone X about 2 days ago and have had the same signal issues as some of you guys. But, after troubleshooting like crazy, I felt stupid when I discovered it, but our signal issues were due to our phone cases. I bought us both a 15 dollar metal magnetic case from Wal-Mart as a temporary case until the cases come in that I ordered, and that was the issue the whole time! We would have numerous dropped calls, and only 1 or 2 bars in areas where we had 4G LTE before. If you have a case on your phone that is metal, or magnetic, take the case off and try that. Apparently, those types of cases absolutely KILL the reception. Good luck to all!

I just fixed this same issue after days of it occurring on and off. Below is a link with various possible fixes but the one that absolutely works and worked for me was to simply turn off the phone, and then removing SIM card. Making sure it was placed correctly (I also wiped a little as an added precaution) then re inserted the sim, powered back on and the issue was fixed permanently.

I purchased my iPhone 11 Pro Max a week ago, 256 gb, Space Gray. Had the issue all the time. First we tried replacing the SIM card, but that didn't work. I was on iOS 13.1 , 13.1.1 , and 13.1.2 but none of the updates worked. Tried LTE both with Voice and No Voice, neither stable and probably wouldn't even send iMessage or SMS about 90%+ of the time. 3G would work but did not meet my data needs and the call quality was awful. Within the exchange period of my carrier (Xfinity Mobile on Verizon towers), and got an even exchange of both the phone and the SIM card. New phone working properly now. This doesn't appear to be too wide of an issue, but somehow, there's a bad run.

Will be curious to see if that works. But others on this thread have gotten replacement phones and the problems all go away. I personally think it is a Intel modem issue. I can set my phone in a stationary position watch the signal strength sit at 3 bars for a while, drop 1 bar, lose network connectivity, go to no bars. Turning off cellular data and turning it back on does nothing. Sometime it pops backup by itself and sometime forcing a phone restart is the only thing that gets it to reconnect until the next random dropout. Same symptoms whether in the mountains of NC or in the middle of Atlanta. Phone reboots by itself while I’m my pocket and I know this because when I pull the phone out face recognition does not work and it prompts me for my pin. Of course, the random rebooting pushes one towards a software issue. When I migrated from iPhone 7 Plus I used the phone to phone method, not restoration from I cloud. While configuration specifics came from the old phone, all the apps seemed to be downloaded fresh from the apps store as I could slowly watch them populate.

As I stated ealier, my solution was to return my iPhone 11 pro max 256g to T-mobile, and buy an UNLOCKED version of the same phone from Best Buy. Popped the same old T-mobile SIM into the replacement phone(the same SIM that I used in an iphone 6, an iphone 7plus and a 5 year old android MotoX). NO ISSUES. The replacement phone works perfectly. Anyone who reads this thread, seeing complaints from around the world, regardless of carrier or iOS version, cannot help but conclude this is an Apple issue. I think it is a hardware issued related to a few defective Intel modems. Apple has yet to step up and admit there is a problem. In my opinion it is inexcusable.

Since this thread is long, I will repeat here. I had 11 pro max 256 from T-mobile with all the same problems. Tried everything to no avail. Sent it back to T-mobile. Bought the same model unlocked from Best Buy - no problems works fine. Same SIM in both phones too. Just updated to iOS 3.2. - no problems, still works fine. I still think it is a hardware issue with a random number of defective intel modems. Apple has yet to step up.

Had this issue but it seems to have been resolved with a replacement unit. Made an Genius Bar appointment and went to the Apple Store to have them run a diagnostic. They didn't find any issues with the hardware but they ultimately agreed to replace my iPhone 11 Pro 512GB (Verizon Wireless). This was after two SIM replacements and other steps to attempt to resolve the issue. New unit works well. No complete cellular drop issues like my original unit. Perhaps a bad batch out there. Will continue to monitor but the new iPhone passed one major test which was being able to receive cellular in an area (Sam's Club warehouse) that I previously had several issues receiving signal.
