Optimised battery charging - not working?

Hi I have a new iPhone 11, and I notice my iPhone over the last 2 nights goes to 100 percent in the middle of the night. So I presume it’s not work despite settings?

Apple just released a note with the solution to our issue !

If Optimized Battery Charging doesn't activate

Optimized charging is designed to engage only in locations where you spend the most time, such as your home and place of work. The feature doesn't engage when your usage habits are more variable, such as when you travel. Because of this, some location settings must be enabled for Optimized Battery Charging to activate. None of the location information used for this feature is sent to Apple.

Here are a list of settings that must be enabled:

  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Location Services.
  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > System Customization.
  • Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations > Significant Locations.

hope that can helps

Still not working for me (never has) iPhone 11 Pro Max. Have a current case running with Apple Support (for quite some time). Still no resolution, however support suggested toggling on and off “System Customisation” in Privacy-Location Services-System Services. This didn't work for me, however Support stated it has worked for some people. Has been escalated to engineering team from Tier 2 support.

Very frustrating feature! After 6 weeks following the 13 update, it finally started working. It did need to "reset" after each IOS update. But every since 13.3 it has stopped working....would work for one day, not the next and on and on. Barely works at all anymore. Really irritating. I'm hoping after the next update it will kick in again. A very glitchy feature.

Didnt mean to reply to user listed, but whatever. Personally, my schedule is wonky so not expecting it to work for my SE under the current limitations. But WHY is the feature based solely upon “machine learning” and completely inaccessible by the human who paid for the phone and expects it to work?! Another post mentions making the parameters of this feature user defined. The much needed feature should have started out that way - user set, just like we set alarms, bedtime, Dnd, events, reminders, notifications, and OMG, so many notifications! I dont want another possibly close to almost accurate notification based on the “machine learning” observation of temporary, mutable characteristics of my battery’s charging! I want to SET the charging pace and be able to change the schedule and check the graph to verify adherence to my prescribed changes to charging behaviour ... let Apple experiment w AI machine learning somewhere trivial. Leave our weak-sauce batteries alone! You’ve done enough harm!

fwiw.... I have never had a problem w battery life in my phones since the 4s (have had 3 now 4 for a short time in total; still have them all and batteries still fine). Never have I experienced reduced batt performance or life (except in extreme cold or extreme heat), though the 6s my relative just gave me has had battery failure and drains in an hour if using. Neither phone’s batt opt feature works, by the way. I don’t live on social media, gaming, or streaming video content. I take / edit photos a lot, i write long texts, stream spotify music, and leave it plugged in more than not, quite often. I always have my screen brightness lower than most, and i leave it in dark mode and night shift 24/7 (unless dealing w photos...if i remember). I always close my browser pages and apps when im done w them. I noticed a lot of ppl dont do that last thing who have batt problems.

I think Apple simply has released a very weak feature that will hopefully be more fully developed quickly since they are not delivering on related promises of hardware and software power efficiency (IOS 13 supposed to be less power draining, more efficient with batt consumption...lmfao).

As I've previously mentioned a few times on this thread, my old Iphone 6S seems to work pretty consistently almost every night with this functionality.

The newer Iphone XS Max is much more sporadic - it seems to work for a few days or a week or two, but then it stops doing it - usually once it stops, it stops for several nights in a row.

My theories are either that there is an app or apps on the newer phone that's somehow interfering with it, or, another possibility is that the programming is slightly different per phone model and battery. It seems to me that the XS Max stops using optimised charging if it thinks I've changed routine even slightly - took a lie in at the weekend, went away for one night to a place I've never been before, moved around to known places but at different times than usual - that sort of thing. I do wonder if there is some code that triggers the phone to think you have somehow changed your routine, and once that kicks in, it starts "re-learning".
