Optimised battery charging - not working?
Hi I have a new iPhone 11, and I notice my iPhone over the last 2 nights goes to 100 percent in the middle of the night. So I presume it’s not work despite settings?

iPhone X and same here, does nothing, goes straight to 100% as if the feature doesn’t exist. I’d also like point out how utterly useless and pointless it is to just post saying people should check it’s switched on, seriously?
Hi, the same is happening to me, I always plug my iPhone XS Max at 11:00pm and wake up at 7:00am with the battery fully charged. I decided to take a look at the graph and it showed that the phone got to 100% at 3:00 am meaning it is not working as the battery of my cellphone remains at 100% from 3:00am - 7:00am. Btw, I don’t get the notification.
I have same issue, not working on iPhone 11 Pro Max since I bough it (20 Sept). Level 2 tech support are getting back to me by the end of the week, after downloading my iPhone diagnostics. I have 1 friend with same iPhone, function not working and another with iPhone XR which started working last night (after downloading iOS 13 on release date)
Not working here either (iPhone xs) It did work though a while after installing iOS 13 for the first time, charging the last 20% just before I usually get up in the morning. Now it just rushes up to 100% right away, like it wasn’t activated at all. And yes, it’s switched on, I’ve switched it off, restarted the unit and switched it back on again; doesn’t help. Haven’t seen a single notification about optimized charging on the screen.
It hasn’t worked on my 8 since I updated. I talked to Apple support and they suggested restoring my phone... still isn’t working 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. I also am always charging overnight 11pm-6:30am, consistently.
There’s gotta be something more going on with this.
So I did notice this morning that after just over 2 weeks of not doing anything, my XS Max did appear to pause during charging last night, but, it only paused for about 1 hour and then carried on charging, reaching full charge at 2am - I have never taken it off charge before about 6.15am (very occasionally 5am but the last time I did that was over a month ago).
never worked for me. got an XS, checking it since the update to ios13. seen it on my girlfriend’s screen one though, she has the X. I do have a messy charging schedule but there are at least 3 days a week when I go to sleep 2am -9am so ios could’ve figured this much by now.
A month after upgrading to iOS 13, my Xs Max started to make use of optimized charging. The lock screen notification only activates if the charge reaches 85% and before it goes to 100%. If you start charging the phone when the battery charge is under 85% it doesn't show the notification and the notification disappears when the battery is fully charged.
I realized it was using optimized battery charging because the battery usage graph showed that it was going up to 85%, stayed there for a few hours and then continued to 100% overnight.
It bases its operation on what the phone is doing, not what you are doing with the phone. So if you have background processes running during the night that counts as usage, and it will bring the phone to full charge for those running processes. Try going to Settings/General/ Background App Refresh and turning it off.
I've found that it counts automatic iCloud backups as usage also. When my backup runs at 6 AM it doesn't go to full charge until just before that. But if it backs up at midnight it will fully charge in time for midnight.
See my post right above yours. If you have background apps that run that counts as "use" and the charge will go to 100% in time for any background processes; I have observed and tested this. For a real test turn off Background App Refresh completely.
I’ve tried turning off background refresh, and didn’t help. I’ve normally only got 2 apps with background refresh on and battery usage shows zero usage of apps when charging. How long did you leave background refresh off before battery optimisation started working?
Apple have downloaded my logs and stated battery optimisation is not actually activating, even though setting is on. They collected further logs and still investigating.
If that is actually the reason why it’s not working then it’s an utterly pointless feature to add as basically everyone has background processes running on their phone. It’s more likely bugged like a lot of stuff in iOS13. I don’t know why they don’t just link it to the bedtime feature or alarm, at least as an option.
you are wrong, I have an iPhone 7 Plus and with the optimised battery feature on it Reaches 80% and does not go beyond 80 until I unplug the phone, while on my iPhone XS Max it does not seem to work at all.
I don’t know you guys but iOS 13.2 seems to have fixed that issue on my XS.
Now the charge stop at 80% !! Finally, was waiting for that since iOS 13 beta.
let us know if that update fix your issue too.
It worked correctly on my old iPhone 7, but not my new iPhone 11 pro,
I prefer Apple to give me a configuration like
"If the excepted fully charge time is between xxx - xxx, then extend it to xxx",
not this kind of NOT ROBUST ML function...
For me, there has been some change - both my IOS phones now do sometimes use the optimised charging.
It seems pretty random though - some nights it works, other nights it doesn't. Some nights only one device does it and the other not, other night vice versa.
