Optimised battery charging - not working?
Hi I have a new iPhone 11, and I notice my iPhone over the last 2 nights goes to 100 percent in the middle of the night. So I presume it’s not work despite settings?

Apple just released a note with the solution to our issue !

If Optimized Battery Charging doesn't activate
Optimized charging is designed to engage only in locations where you spend the most time, such as your home and place of work. The feature doesn't engage when your usage habits are more variable, such as when you travel. Because of this, some location settings must be enabled for Optimized Battery Charging to activate. None of the location information used for this feature is sent to Apple.
Here are a list of settings that must be enabled:
hope that can helps
Same problem here. Optimised battery setting is on and I almost always charge the phone overnight. I don't get any notification on the lock screen (my son's iPhone SE does) and I can see how the charge goes to 100% at 2:00-3:00am and stays there until I disconnect the charging cable at 8:00am when I wake up.
If your battery health is dropping like a stone take the phone to a genius bar and get it replaced. Phones never had this feature before, and their batteries never dropped like a stone, so if yours is it is broken.
This feature is more gimmick than reality. A phone that is at full charge for an hour or two isn't going to hurt the battery life. Leaving it at full charge for days will decrease the overall battery life slightly, but probably not a noticeable amount. But normal use of an iPhone (or any device powered by a Lithium battery) will reduce the state of charge for most of the operating time of the phone.
So as of this morning, both of my Iphones (XSMax and 6S) are no longer using optimised charging even though it's switched on.
Previously, the 6S was using it, as evidenced on the charging graph, but now the 6S has also started charging fully straight away. This is in spite of me getting up at roughly the same time every day.
I guess what we don't know is whether this is a bug or a problem with Apple's optimised charging feature, or whether it's somehow working as designed. The only documentation I've seen states that it works based on learning when you charge it and when you take it off charge. Perhaps there is some other criteria that's used behind the scenes on that, but if so Apple hasn't mentioned it in any documentation that I've seen.
Well to be fair, if this is working "as designed", it would be quite easy for Apple to amend the help page to say something like "optimised battery charging will sometimes charge your phone to 80% and then wait until you are going to use it before doing the final charge, based on usage patterns and on other factors related to battery health".
If they said that, then I guess there would be no need for this thread. As it is, their documentation implies that the function is only based on usage pattern, so people might legitimately be puzzled as to why only some phones are doing it and others are not.
I too have downloaded all the updates plus turned off location services, backup services and refresh apps option with no change (battery is simply backing up to 100%). Spike with a tech who suggested a complete restore/reinstall but I’m unwilling to spend all this time to get my phone setup from scratch on the small possibility that this feature may work. I’m getting the impression that the feature may simply be flawed.
for sure this has nothing to do with location services or backups or anything like that - on my IOS devices, this functionality works sporadically (some nights it works, others it doesn't) but I have never switched any of those things off.
I suspect it's either working as intended and Apple didn't actually intend it to trigger every single night, or there is something more complicated like a particular app that is causing the issue.
Last night, both my IOS phones actually worked fine on this function, but the night before they didn't.
I have an 11 Pro Max. I’ve seen the notice on my screen 1 time since launch day. I thought it needed to learn my schedule. But I use Do not disturb & bedtime. You’d think that would automatically give it a clear picture of my schedule & when to stop & continue charging. After a couple weeks I got the notice & thought ok...it is learning my schedule. It’s been another 2 weeks & have never had the notification again.
Info from Apple Support was that it should work with wireless charger. I normally use wireless, tried wired for a week and didn’t fix issue. Still waiting for Apple Engineers to get back but it looks to be a software issue as people with different models are having same issue.
it was working for a week and after i used an app for clean memory and afterwards has stopped working again but now after 3-4 days it started again...
so my suggestion it’s to not use that kind of app maybe it affects the memory learning etc, I don’t know for sure maybe was just coincidence but worth a try
Mine started working initially, took 6 weeks to learn my charging habits, and for two days it worked, even though my battery was at 70% ish when i put it on charge. Last night and the night before, i went to bed at around the same time, but my phone was below 50% battery both times, and optimised charging didn’t kick in at all. On my battery health page i can’t even see what my peak performance is, i still have the message that tells you what the feature is, which apple support have assured me is normal, but this paired with optimised charging not working is making me thing there is a serious issue with iOS 13
Mine is now working consistently...every night. The only time it varies is the first night after an iOS update when it doesn’t work & then kicks back in the second night. Think it needs to reset itself.
Mine had finally started working but it did need to "reset" after each IOS update...but since 13.3, it only now seems to work every other night, or at most....2 days in a row. Very glitchy. I also had a running dialogue with a Tier 2 rep who ran several diagnostics & sent to the engineers. The response from the engineers basically boiled down to "we don't know..."
I have an iPhone 11. Lately it has started working for me. I think 13.3 did the thing. I haven't done any tricky thing like restarting or turning off and on the optimized charging option like other members of the thread.
Even more, my charging schedule isn't totally consistent. I almost always charge it at night, but usually every two nights. I don't need more. But the nights that I do charge it, the optimized charging has been working. Also, I have realized that at nights it charges the phone until 80% a lot slower than usually. I think that also protects the battery.
So finally I can say I'm very happy with this feature.
Ohh, btw, one think that may be helping is that I use the Bedtime feature.
Mine has worked most nights since i got it working a couple weeks ago. The time it gets to 100% has varied each night. A few nights where it didn’t work was when I had plugged my phone in and it had a fairly high battery percentage than normal. The other night it said my phone will charge up by 4:30 am but i used my phone for a few mins when I woke up in the middle of the Night and it charged up to 100% shortly after.
Thank you, I can confirm optimised battery charging is on. I do not receive any notification on lock screen.
