Optimised battery charging - not working?
Hi I have a new iPhone 11, and I notice my iPhone over the last 2 nights goes to 100 percent in the middle of the night. So I presume it’s not work despite settings?

Apple just released a note with the solution to our issue !
Quote :
If Optimized Battery Charging doesn't activate
Optimized charging is designed to engage only in locations where you spend the most time, such as your home and place of work. The feature doesn't engage when your usage habits are more variable, such as when you travel. Because of this, some location settings must be enabled for Optimized Battery Charging to activate. None of the location information used for this feature is sent to Apple.
Here are a list of settings that must be enabled:
hope that can helps
On the battery sections there’s a chart . The chart just gradually goes up to 100 percent at about 2am rather than stick around 80 percent for a while
Exactly the same, iPhone X and after more than a week I still don’t get any notification and from 3am until 7am charge stays at 100% every time
Last night after the update it started to work again, got charged till 80% and stopped till 7 o’clock the morning and started charging till 100%
Isn’t working for me neither with iPhone 11 running 13.2. Could this be related to location services setting? For instance, I have disabled FREQUENT LOCATIONS.
I encourage everyone to call Apple Support
Mine finally started working. Think it needs to recalibrate after each update. Been consistently working every night now.
It maybe need a few days to learn your locations pattern, if that was off previously.
let’s see !
Same here. I have the pro max and I've charged it from 11pm to 7am every night since launch day. Per the battery chart it is charging straight to 100%. Last night I happened to wake up at 1am and it was at 100%. Perhaps it needs a certain number of days worth of activity before it kicks in? Otherwise it's definitely not working.
iPhone X and same here, does nothing, goes straight to 100% as if the feature doesn’t exist. I’d also like point out how utterly useless and pointless it is to just post saying people should check it’s switched on, seriously?
No, it’s just a lazy response, which tends to be the case, it’s like this every time someone has an issue, tech support goes “Can you do all these thing’s you’ve already tried that didn’t fix it again”.
Same for me. XS Max doesn’t seem to optimise charging, but my work SE does. I wonder if it’s something that requires the battery to drop below a specific peak performance threshold before the device thinks it needs to start optimising??
Yeah maybe... weird that it worked once for you. My work SE has a battery health max capacity of 94%, my XS Max is at 96%. Or maybe there's a bug... or maybe my charging routing is so irregular that the phone doesn't know what to do. I do plug my phone into my car for car play, but when I plug in at night for the nightly charge it's usually below 50%.
I have the same issue with my Iphone XS Max which is about 6 months old with 100% battery health - I have to admit that up until IOS13, I didn't charge this device overnight as the battery usually lasted a couple of days, so quite often I would charge it only when it was nearly empty. However since installing IOS13, I have charged it through the night for the last 6 nights, but it is still going straight to 100%. I would think that after 6 nights it should have figured out that I'm leaving it on charge overnight by now.
I also have an older Iphons 6S which had a new battery about a year ago (current battery health 99%). This Iphone 6S is correctly using optimised battery charging as I can see on the battery graph that it goes up to 80%, then pauses for a few hours before charging to 100%.
Battery health was always 100%, I never charge overnight until Apple released the gimmick optimized battery charge. After a week of thinking this feature was actually working, battery health declining. My bad for think Apple can design software that performs the functionality it boasts at its conference. I am going to go back to my original opinion of Apples design and test practices as being subpar and overrated.
What you just described is a feature Apple boasts about that doesn’t work whatsoever. Like a lot of the software they Piece together and release way too early without the slightest bit of internal testing.
