Optimised battery charging - not working?
Hi I have a new iPhone 11, and I notice my iPhone over the last 2 nights goes to 100 percent in the middle of the night. So I presume it’s not work despite settings?

iPhone X and same here, does nothing, goes straight to 100% as if the feature doesn’t exist. I’d also like point out how utterly useless and pointless it is to just post saying people should check it’s switched on, seriously?
I have an iPhone 8 and this feature has never worked for me at all. I updated to iOS 13 on day of launch and have the setting switched on. Like alot of people I charge my phone during the night, I can’t believe nobody at Apple thought about incorporating optimised battery charging linked with the alarm. That way the iPhone knows when it has to finish its charge cycle instead of having to try and learn when you charge your phone and get it wrong 🤔
This still has not worked yet. Completely routine with putting on wireless charger at night and taking off. At least I would think plus or minus 30 minutes is close enough. I’ve had this 11pro about 3 months now.
Since I want to maximize battery longevity, I guess I will just start charging on quick charger in morning. I don’t need more than 75% to get through the day. I’ll wait until there is an official announcement from Apple that optimized battery charging is fixed before I try again.
This morning I had a notification that optimised charging has been enabled. I have been following this thread since iOS 13 was released and this is the first time it has worked on me Xr. 5 days ago I disabled optimised charging permanently and had since forgotten about it. This morning I received the notification that it had been enabled automatically, so I checked the battery in settings and it had worked. It remains to be seen if it will continue to work, but I suggest turning it off in settings if it has never worked for you and give it a week. Not quite a solution, but a possible workaround.
Still not working for me (never has) iPhone 11 Pro Max. Have a current case running with Apple Support (for quite some time). Still no resolution, however support suggested toggling on and off “System Customisation” in Privacy-Location Services-System Services. This didn't work for me, however Support stated it has worked for some people. Has been escalated to engineering team from Tier 2 support.
Mine had finally started working but it did need to "reset" after each IOS update...but since 13.3, it only now seems to work every other night, or at most....2 days in a row. Very glitchy. I also had a running dialogue with a Tier 2 rep who ran several diagnostics & sent to the engineers. The response from the engineers basically boiled down to "we don't know..."
I have an iPhone 11. Lately it has started working for me. I think 13.3 did the thing. I haven't done any tricky thing like restarting or turning off and on the optimized charging option like other members of the thread.
Even more, my charging schedule isn't totally consistent. I almost always charge it at night, but usually every two nights. I don't need more. But the nights that I do charge it, the optimized charging has been working. Also, I have realized that at nights it charges the phone until 80% a lot slower than usually. I think that also protects the battery.
So finally I can say I'm very happy with this feature.
Ohh, btw, one think that may be helping is that I use the Bedtime feature.
Thanks for posting!
Mine has never worked on my iphone xr despite having a fairly regular routine. I hope this is the answer because I did have my significant locations off. I just turned it on after reading this. I will report back to see if my optimize battery will work now.
This feature still does not work for me right from day 1 when ios13 launched and I have followed what other people have done to make their phoned work with this feature. It’s so frustrating I am unable to use this feature even when I have upgraded from an iPhone 8 to iPhone XR. I think Apple have tried to be to clever and should of kept this so simple in my opinion, most people charge their phones at night so why not use the alarm as the mechanism of when to charge to 80% and stop and then carry on when it knows when you are going to wake up.
Very frustrating feature! After 6 weeks following the 13 update, it finally started working. It did need to "reset" after each IOS update. But every since 13.3 it has stopped working....would work for one day, not the next and on and on. Barely works at all anymore. Really irritating. I'm hoping after the next update it will kick in again. A very glitchy feature.
I don’t think that is a reliable way because there are people like me who use alarms all throughout the day for lots of different things, like medication, getting my kid on the buss off the bus, after school reminders. Then there are people who never use alarms or not the phone alarms.
For those of you that have it working, can you check to see if you have 'Significant Locations' turned on under Privacy>Location Services> System Services?
Apple says that needs to be on for it to work however, I don't want to have it on for the reason that I believe that would kill my battery faster throughout the day.
Finally works (sort of). I enabled all of the privacy settings last Monday (1/13). This morning I noticed the message about optimized charging. However looking at the battery info charging resumed at about midnight we’ll short of when I get up. Maybe it takes a little while longer to learn. If you’re still waiting for yours to kick in plan at least 5-7 days after enabling the appropriate settings.
I have an iPhone XR and have done everything thing per all the suggestions and it's never worked for me. I have a very routine schedule and initiate charging at the same time each nite and it simply charges right up to 100%! Hopefully ios 13.4 comes soon with this fixed!
Hello, i have the 11 Pro Max and i charge my phone every night from the moment i fall asleep at around 12, until i wake up at 7am. the optimized battery setting is on, and my phone is supposed to charge to 80% and stay there, but it always goes to 100%. Maybe apple does that on purpose to degrade new batteries faster? Or is it just a software bug? If so please fix this as fast as you can. I payed 1300€ for this iPhone and as a premium product i expect it to function properly. Thanks!
*note that location services, system customization, significant locations are ALL turn on and the feature is still not working...
i also charge my phone at the same place and time every night, and all the location services options stated above have been turned on since time of purchase (over 2 months ago). I proceeded to turn them off and back on but after a week it’s still not working
