Optimised battery charging - not working?
Hi I have a new iPhone 11, and I notice my iPhone over the last 2 nights goes to 100 percent in the middle of the night. So I presume it’s not work despite settings?

Apple just released a note with the solution to our issue !

If Optimized Battery Charging doesn't activate
Optimized charging is designed to engage only in locations where you spend the most time, such as your home and place of work. The feature doesn't engage when your usage habits are more variable, such as when you travel. Because of this, some location settings must be enabled for Optimized Battery Charging to activate. None of the location information used for this feature is sent to Apple.
Here are a list of settings that must be enabled:
hope that can helps
You’ve twice now gone on about Apple software that doesn’t work as they show during announcements. I think that statement couldn’t be further from the truth. If you’ve ever used an android device or a windows phone you world know the very meaning of that statement. Whilst there are certainly features that Android has that iOS does not, the one thing that Apple usually gets right is waiting to release something when it’s ready.
My battery optimisation is not working, but maybe it’s not meant to. Perhaps it will start to work on a certain age of device after a certain battery health threshold is reached.
Yeah, that’s very true. Hopefully if there is a criteria the device has to meet it can be noted somewhere.
My problem is that I use CarPlay, so my phone gets a charge whenever I’m driving, so maybe that’s part of the issue... the irregular pattern.
Background app refresh is switched on for both my Iphones, but one of them is correctly using optimised charging (or at least it was until last night) and the other one not.
If the device is plugged in to the mains and able to charge, there is no reason why background app refresh would make any difference as it would draw power from mains no?
I suppose it could be that there is a particular app that is somehow blocking it from working as I have a lot more apps on my XSMax than on my other iphone.
Apple can tell the difference between an app running in the background and user using the device. If background app refresh being on or prevents the battery from being optimized then that is a pretty useless feature. Personally I have only one app that updates content over night which is my fitbit, even though BAR is off for this app. It runs for a few mins per hour and doesn’t even use 1% battery. Still no optimizations happening.
Yes... I have seen this ‘gimmick’ work on my on my 4yr old work SE. I’ve seen the notification and have seen the charging graph.
By the sound of it, you just need to stop buying Apple products if you’re so unhappy with them.
I have stopped buying Apple. I am making comments about a service that doesn’t seem to work that well as much as Tim fanned it at the conference. It’s pretty useless as is a lot of the buggy garbage found in iOS 13. Stuff all over the operating system just doesn’t work, it’s the designed very well, and was never really tested in a manner that resembles reality. Music is broken in majority of automobiles, reminders won’t sync to Mac anymore. No family accounts for Apple credit card, ditching ability to send money from credit card over iMessage, latest iOS TV on Apple TV is a disaster that needs daily restarting to unlock. My stuff worked fine until iOS 13. It would be nice for Apple to be a little more open and honest about their mistakes and then actually fix them in a timely manner.
Hi, the same is happening to me, I always plug my iPhone XS Max at 11:00pm and wake up at 7:00am with the battery fully charged. I decided to take a look at the graph and it showed that the phone got to 100% at 3:00 am meaning it is not working as the battery of my cellphone remains at 100% from 3:00am - 7:00am. Btw, I don’t get the notification.
I have same issue, not working on iPhone 11 Pro Max since I bough it (20 Sept). Level 2 tech support are getting back to me by the end of the week, after downloading my iPhone diagnostics. I have 1 friend with same iPhone, function not working and another with iPhone XR which started working last night (after downloading iOS 13 on release date)
Not working here either (iPhone xs) It did work though a while after installing iOS 13 for the first time, charging the last 20% just before I usually get up in the morning. Now it just rushes up to 100% right away, like it wasn’t activated at all. And yes, it’s switched on, I’ve switched it off, restarted the unit and switched it back on again; doesn’t help. Haven’t seen a single notification about optimized charging on the screen.
It hasn’t worked on my 8 since I updated. I talked to Apple support and they suggested restoring my phone... still isn’t working 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. I also am always charging overnight 11pm-6:30am, consistently.
There’s gotta be something more going on with this.
never worked for me. got an XS, checking it since the update to ios13. seen it on my girlfriend’s screen one though, she has the X. I do have a messy charging schedule but there are at least 3 days a week when I go to sleep 2am -9am so ios could’ve figured this much by now.
I’ve tried turning off background refresh, and didn’t help. I’ve normally only got 2 apps with background refresh on and battery usage shows zero usage of apps when charging. How long did you leave background refresh off before battery optimisation started working?
Apple have downloaded my logs and stated battery optimisation is not actually activating, even though setting is on. They collected further logs and still investigating.
If that is actually the reason why it’s not working then it’s an utterly pointless feature to add as basically everyone has background processes running on their phone. It’s more likely bugged like a lot of stuff in iOS13. I don’t know why they don’t just link it to the bedtime feature or alarm, at least as an option.
you are wrong, I have an iPhone 7 Plus and with the optimised battery feature on it Reaches 80% and does not go beyond 80 until I unplug the phone, while on my iPhone XS Max it does not seem to work at all.
It worked correctly on my old iPhone 7, but not my new iPhone 11 pro,
I prefer Apple to give me a configuration like
"If the excepted fully charge time is between xxx - xxx, then extend it to xxx",
not this kind of NOT ROBUST ML function...
