Text message attachments missing from "i"nformation section after iOS 13 update

I received my new iPhone 11 Pro Max and got it set up with all my stuff backed up in iCloud. Howerver, all the message attachments found in texts by clicking the "i" of the contacts name are gone. The attachments themselves are still in the text threads. If I scroll I can see them, but they are not showing in the information screen.

Even after the update to 13.1 all my text message attachments (photos/links/videos) are not showing in the "i"nformation screen. I've tried turning MMS and iMessage OFF/ON. I've tried hard resetting my phone. No luck!

I’m having the same problem and same experience as you. I talked with Apple Support and they said it’s a known problem, and a fix is in progress. Might be worth calling their support number and reporting so they hear from more people and prioritize the fix. I was expecting a fix in last night’s 13.1.1 update but still no luck.

Same issue here with an iPhone 6s. Created support tickets with Apple support and no solution yet even after 3 IOS 13 updates. SMS attachments not shown clicking on “I” button anymore. There is no way you can see all your attachments for a specific thread in one place or bulk delete some of them. It was a flawless feature in IOS 12 and it’s broken now in IOS 13. I am still going to upgrade to a iPhone 11 Pro shortly. But 3 of my friends not upgrading until this issue is fixed hoping the old iPhone at least have those attachments in their memory even if you can’t see them!

Apple should take this seriously as some attachments are priceless and non repeatable memories.

i hate the new iOS. On top of this issue (which no one has been given a solution or information for by Apple Support) my phone now says I’m running out of storage even though on my other phone (the exact same phone and storage) I had plenty of storage left. Plus, the info section doesn’t even work and I can’t access photos or videos that were shared. I’m fed up. I pay for iCloud storage and these phones aren’t cheap, so this problem needs to be taken seriously for the users affected. I think they’re not doing anything about it because it’s been a few hundred people to complain. It’s likely low on their priority list.

I just upgraded to 13.2 in my new IPhone 11 PRO. One good thing is they brought back the feature of selecting and deleting multiple SMS attachments by clicking the "i" button.

Another thing I noticed after getting my new IPhone is all my sms attachments are now shown. It still doesnt work in my old IPhone 6S though. But atleast good to go now with my new phone. Big relief.

Wish they introduce a feature to download all SMS attchments through icloud in near future.

Yes that’s true! After upgrading to 13.2 in my new iPhone 11 Pro most of the text attachments showing up getting properly downloaded. Also there is option to select and save/delete bulk attachments.

Since I still have my iPhone 6s, I checked there and all attachments not getting downloaded there! So it may be typical phone model issue now. I am not sure. I also came to this thread as a disappointed user only but I just upgraded to a new iPhone model 3 days back and it’s resolved now.

I wish I had never updated my iPhone. I’ve had this issue for weeks. It isn’t resolving and my phone doesn’t even appear to be fully downloading data from iCloud on top of it not indexing anything on my new iPhone 7 Plus. If your issue persists make sure you contact Apple support. The more people that call for this problem, the better. I was offered no help/solutions but I think more people need to call in.

I am having this same problem . Got new XS Max after dropping mine. Did back up then set up. Phone did update to 13.3 and I have no attachments in details. Chatted with Senior tech he told me this wasn’t a reported issue and I had to just give it time plugged in with strong WiFi. iMessages showed uploading from iCloud. Each individual message showed correct amount of attachments downloading from iCloud and then it finished . It’s been 3 days and nothing . My attachment also show in text thread. However some threads have over 7,000 attachments . Which you can not just scroll up through.

To solve this issue, you must do a full backup to iTunes and then restore your iPhone using iTunes. After the restore happens, reload your backup and you should be good. This is because restoring will remove the iOS and reinstall a fresh copy, then pull in your backup. That’s what worked for me, I highly recommend trying it, let me know the results and if I can be of further assistance.

Hello, the resolution to this is you have to connect your iPhone to a computer or Mac with iTunes. Do a backup of the iPhone, then do a full restore. What this does is erases everything and loads the iOS 13 as a clean copy so to speak. Then you can pull you backup back on after the restore is complete and that should fix your problem. Let me know if you need any extra assistance but that should work. Worked for me and worked for many others!

Hi Zico7777, I just got a new iPhone 11 (not PRO) and upgraded to 13.3.1 but I'm having the opposite problem as everyone else. Since you are able to see your attachments, maybe you can help ... I'm trying to DELETE all of my SMS attachments via the iPhone storage feature in settings. I have gone through and manually "bulk-deleted" every single attachments 3 times, but they are all still there as soon as I go back to my settings. I finally went into my messages app and deleted every single text to see if that would make them go away and they are STILL there. Then I went in and deleted every single photo/video in my camera app, and again, they are still there. I am at a loss as to how to get rid of these, and they are still taking up storage on my phone. Any ideas? I'm going to report this to Apple but thought I'd check to see if you've tried to delete yours at all and if so, have you had success?
