"Sign in to Complete Purchase" message after updating to Apple Watch OS 6.0

I'm getting the message "Sign in to Complete Purchase" every time on my Apple Watch after installing OS 6. Also, it asks me to login to an old Apple ID that I don't use anymore...

The message keeps popping up on my wrist 4-5 times and then it goes out for a while.

Reeeeeeeally annoying!

OK. Here is the fix that worked for me!

  1. Open your Apple Watch app on your phone and go to “My Watch”
  2. Go to Settings/General & turn off Automatic App Install.
  3. Now go back to “My Watch” and scroll to the bottom to see “Available Apps”.
  4. Any apps you see that are trying to install are the culprits causing the notifications!
  5. Delete those apps from your phone, and if necessary reinstall them with your Apple ID used currently.
  6. Turn Automatic App Install back on if necessary.

You now wont receive any more of those annoying notifications!

I checked what you suggested and under General (in Watch app) --> Software Update I dont have unabled automatic updates and still getting this message.

Should I look elsewhere to disable this automatic update and where ca I see this failed updates?

Many thanks for your help.

Yes, I'm having the same issue. My apple watch started to display the 'Sign In to Complete Purchase' notice right after I upgraded to 13.1 on my phone. What I noticed was that the apple Id that it is asking me to sign into is my wife's apple ID. We used to share one ID to make our purchases, so I do have some old stuff that I bought using her account. Need some help here, Apple support.

Thanks

I used the fix suggested by Watersideguy and that worked for me, I was getting the error several times per day in batches of 4 but once I had used the resolution suggested above it fixed my problem. I'm not sure how to help with your passwords problem, I don't have any issues at all with Apple password verification and I do use 2FA and have done for months if not years, I also use multiple devices including iPhone, iPad and Mac's and never have any issues so maybe it might be worth experimenting with 2FA to see if that helps?

Over the last few years, I have had horrible experiences with Apple passwords--no matter how carefully I enter the passwords, the device tells me that it is incorrect. Many times it is three times in a row and then Apple forces me to change the password.

I can't even get into my devices with one password--there is absolutely no way that I will move to 2FA. I'm quite confident I'd be locked out of my devices forever...

On the other hand, if this current "Sign in to Complete Purchase" message continues at the rate it is going now, I will ditch all of my apple products.
