iOS 13 Apple Music and BMW's iDrive problems

Hello I have a problem and was wondering if anyone else experience this:

I have a BMW with an iDrive media system. Before updating to iOS 13, it worked with my iPhone perfectly, over the bluetooth. However, after updating, I can't control the media playback (using the steering wheel) when I'm playing songs from A LOCAL PLAYLIST! If I play songs from an album or my whole songs library, controls work perfect. Also, if I play any online playlists (e.g. Pure Party playlist in Apple music) it works perfectly. There is something wrong about how the playback of LOCAL Apple Music playlists is being managed in iOS 13..

I have tried resetting (bluetooth and complete system restore) my phone and my car. I have also tried it with iPhone X and Xs Max and both had the same behaviour.

Devices to reproduce it:

BMW with an iDrive 4.0 system

iPhone X with iOS 13.1.1 (same issue persists with an iPhone Xs Max with iOS 13.1.1)

Apple Music

Steps to reproduce it:

1. Connect car's bluetooth to iPhone.

2. Play any song of any playlist.

3. Try to control the music playback (by choosing which song to play next)

4. System tries to skip to the selected song (by displaying it's playing it for a brief second, but not changing the sound), but is not able to.

Read the comments. It clearly says it’s solved in iOS 13.2 Beta 3. So, install that or wait for the official release of iOS 13.2. It should be out before the end of this month.

I thought I was the only one having this issue on my BMW i-drive system after updating to iOS 13.1 and tried after updating to iOS 13.1.2 yesterday. This is driving me nuts not being able change tracks from my play lists using the steering wheel and rotary control. I contacted the local dealership in Australia and spoke to BMW Genius, surprisingly they haven't had any other complaints on this issue. This made me do a search on the internet and here I'm feeling at ease knowing that I'm not the only one experiencing the same issue. Apple needs to fix this issue fast, not happy.

I can see all of the songs on the heads-up display and can select one. There’s a pause and then the last song playing restarts.

I’m having the same behavior through Bluetooth and through USB.

I reset my phone and am still having the same issue.

Pairing the phone again can’t be the issue since I’m having the same problem through USB which doesn’t require that the phone gets paired.

i wonder if there’s a security setting preventing outside sources from controlling the phone.

I tweeted Apple Support a few days ago all they did was schedule a phone call with me and even though I told them already I restored iPhone, restored settings, changed cables, tried Bluetooth, tried CarPlay, tried different cars and cars from different manufacturers the woman on the phone call tried to get me to reinstall iOS 13.1.2 and I refused to because I was at work and restoring from a back up would take ages we were going around in circles so I gave up.

So, if you drive a high end import, and want to listen to your own music, in your own way, you can't do it with out looking at your iphone while driving.

And, in this discussion, the only answers seem to be; buy an Apple watch and stop the car when changing playlists, or listen to Apples music with Apple Music, Apples way. This doesn't sound like a problem for Apple. It should increase sales for a bit for Apple Music and maybe even Watches. And the problem was pointed out with 13.1.1 . So, "reporting" the problem didn't help much.

Another answer is to spend hours, or days restoring your iphone to iOS 12 and your backed up iTunes files. I'm pretty sure the folks at Apple know a lot of us will spend money to get out of that.

I could just drive my aging Scion. The steering wheel song selector works fine with iOS 13, and the sound is actually pretty good. But it is certainly not as nice and comfortable as the BMW.

It's sounding more like it could be a problem of demographics, not a programming error.
