iOS 13 Apple Music and BMW's iDrive problems

Hello I have a problem and was wondering if anyone else experience this:

I have a BMW with an iDrive media system. Before updating to iOS 13, it worked with my iPhone perfectly, over the bluetooth. However, after updating, I can't control the media playback (using the steering wheel) when I'm playing songs from A LOCAL PLAYLIST! If I play songs from an album or my whole songs library, controls work perfect. Also, if I play any online playlists (e.g. Pure Party playlist in Apple music) it works perfectly. There is something wrong about how the playback of LOCAL Apple Music playlists is being managed in iOS 13..

I have tried resetting (bluetooth and complete system restore) my phone and my car. I have also tried it with iPhone X and Xs Max and both had the same behaviour.

Devices to reproduce it:

BMW with an iDrive 4.0 system

iPhone X with iOS 13.1.1 (same issue persists with an iPhone Xs Max with iOS 13.1.1)

Apple Music

Steps to reproduce it:

1. Connect car's bluetooth to iPhone.

2. Play any song of any playlist.

3. Try to control the music playback (by choosing which song to play next)

4. System tries to skip to the selected song (by displaying it's playing it for a brief second, but not changing the sound), but is not able to.

I have the same issue and it’s driving me crazy. Everything was working perfectly on iOS13 though. The issue started after updating to 13.1 and it still persists with 13.1.1. I also tried a Mercedes and the issue is also present. The problem has to do with iOS13.1

This is a huge functionality issue that Apple has to address. I’ve submitted to bug reports and encourage you to do the same. Hopefully this would get fixed with the next update.

I must be in the minority. I am able to advance one song via the scroll wheel and and idrive but it’s only to advance one song. If I attempt to advance past the next song the same symptoms of the shiny showing a check and the active song continuing to play persist. I am in a 15 X5 35D with an iPhone X running 13.2. My X5 has the updated radio and Bluetooth firmware.

The same is happening in my 16 X3 28D without the latest radio and Bluetooth firmware.

I witty my iPhone 7 with the BETA 13.2 code on it when I get home.

This problem never had a basis on the network connection. So BT or USB did not matter for the iPhone connection. It was likely an API incompatibility introduced by Apple that crippled most cars tracks selection and by the recent commentary posted, seems to have been only partially repaired (or a buggy update shipped). We are in for more "beta" testing of a released 13.2 version.

Since my iPhone 8 updated to IOS13 the connections to my BMW X4 music and phone functions has become ridiculously erratic

1) I can no longer move through music on the steering wheel or I drive

2) the phone won’t send contact details to car so voice control no longer possible

i seriously hope this isn’t some stupid way to force the use of car play as the phone isn’t good enough to replace the BMW systems

please advise when these issues will be addressed

Can someone, please do me a favor. Ever since the release of 13.2 my steering wheel functionality with the local playlist and knob are back to par and working fine. But now I have discovered a new issue at least it did it this morning will try again on my way home. Siri through my speech button on my 5 series does not function. Before I can speak a command it closes out of the function. I tried this about ten times on my way to work. Is anyone else having this issue on any car. I’m in a BMW and having this problem.

thanks.

I've encountered this as well. Cars in question are 2013 BMW X1 & X5 equipped with iDrive and enhanced bluetooth/usb. iOS 13 on iPhone XS and iPhone 8. With a USB connection, I can select songs and playlists, but can't skip tracks. The bluetooth functionality is limited on these cars - so that works as it always did - it'll play whatever you had queued up on your phone.

Just got off the phone with Apple support. I have Mercedes COMAND system from a 2017 C63 and I am having the same issue as described here with my IPhoneX. The rep asked me to trouble shoot using different USB cables rebooting my phone etc... Meanwhile I am not in my vehicle and I have already done the troubleshooting steps on my own... Al of this is a stall tactic. In the end, if the trouble shooting doesn't resolve the problem, I am to go to the vehicle manufacturer for a firmware update (which doesn't exist)...

I will probably just switch to Android.

2013 BMW F10 M5. After iOS update, the car does not “see” my USB attached iPhone at all. So it’s worse than before. I was so excited for this “fix”. Please tell us if you plan to support non-CarPlay integration. I have three vehicles with CarPlay. This vehicle doesn’t have it. The F10 didn’t have it. It’s not that old.

CAN EVERYONE TAKE NOTE!

I’ve seen emails with people still reporting this! Several threads (over 2 weeks ago including mine), state that this issue has been RESOLVED by Apple in update 13.2 (17B5084a) beta. IF your not on any beta profile please download if from Apple.

I suggest everyone reads previous threads and save yourself the hassle!
