iOS 13 Apple Music and BMW's iDrive problems

Hello I have a problem and was wondering if anyone else experience this:

I have a BMW with an iDrive media system. Before updating to iOS 13, it worked with my iPhone perfectly, over the bluetooth. However, after updating, I can't control the media playback (using the steering wheel) when I'm playing songs from A LOCAL PLAYLIST! If I play songs from an album or my whole songs library, controls work perfect. Also, if I play any online playlists (e.g. Pure Party playlist in Apple music) it works perfectly. There is something wrong about how the playback of LOCAL Apple Music playlists is being managed in iOS 13..

I have tried resetting (bluetooth and complete system restore) my phone and my car. I have also tried it with iPhone X and Xs Max and both had the same behaviour.

Devices to reproduce it:

BMW with an iDrive 4.0 system

iPhone X with iOS 13.1.1 (same issue persists with an iPhone Xs Max with iOS 13.1.1)

Apple Music

Steps to reproduce it:

1. Connect car's bluetooth to iPhone.

2. Play any song of any playlist.

3. Try to control the music playback (by choosing which song to play next)

4. System tries to skip to the selected song (by displaying it's playing it for a brief second, but not changing the sound), but is not able to.

I have the same issue and it’s driving me crazy. Everything was working perfectly on iOS13 though. The issue started after updating to 13.1 and it still persists with 13.1.1. I also tried a Mercedes and the issue is also present. The problem has to do with iOS13.1

This is a huge functionality issue that Apple has to address. I’ve submitted to bug reports and encourage you to do the same. Hopefully this would get fixed with the next update.

So guys, i just checked the update portal of BMW (German Website). It looks like there is a fix. The changelog says:

Connectivity

▷ Verbessert die Telefonfunktion mit Apple iPhone.

What means: improvements for communication with Apple iPhone. I will install update later after work and let you know, if it is fixed for me. BMW 2 Active Tourer 2018 Navi Plus. The update is new to me, last time there was a fix for Samsung Devices.

It’s almost all car makers with people reporting issues that DO NOT USE car play. Changing basic functionality of basic commands such as play next track is pretty dumbfounded. It’s not just BMW. It’s Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, Voltzwagon, and a lot of American manufactures. My wife’s GMC is broken when you do not use car play and use cars system. It’s one year old. Apple release buggy, not ready for the market software and it reflects there current leadership, or lack thereof.

Apples response is such a corporate BS cop out excuse....seriously one day my phone works fully next day it doesn't only thing thats changed is the iOS on the phone!

If there was this level of incompatibility with this new iOS why didn't they put a disclaimer......reason their excuse is utter BS and they are just trying to pass off blame. :)

I love Apple products but by christ their attitude really stinks now.....its changed massively since the great Steve Jobs passed away and the whole ethos of producing great hardware and software coupled with exceptional customer care has vanished while they chase the $$$$$$$$

That is not a fix for those who do not have Car Play in their cars. Also Apple blaming BMW is a bit of a **** take. It is not just BMWs that are affected. The issue is clearly with iOS 13.

Guess what folks, I dig up my 1st gen iPod Touch that I have lying around at home; loaded two playlists on plugged it in and it works PERFECTLY with my 335d. That iPod is running iOS 3.x and it was bought in 2008. Good job I kept it around.

Still I like Apple to fix the problem. It is not like everyone can just go swap out their cars like they do with god **** iPhones.

Nope. I will hold Apple to make a music app that has worked for the last 10 years work. You are slinging an app with in app purchases to get a simple thing like skip to next track function to work. That is pretty lame. I just use an iPod in the car now. I am just laughing at this company called Apple that their music player that has been terrible for years can’t even go to the next track anymore. It’s like selling someone a boat that sinks in the water and saying it your fault not theirs.
