Change the voice. The Uh-Huh seems to be associated with the South American Female voice option.
For instance the American Male has proper, respectful, intelligent sounding replies. I’m sure others do as well, you’d just have to try out different ones.
Or just don't wait between "Hey, Siri" and your question. Siri only says that if you pause. So, no pause, no uh-huh.
I have always thought that Siri should be polite - please, thank you, your welcome. I accepted its lack of civility as just being a machine. Now, this Unhunh is really offensive.. This is a literal civil war and I am trying to unplug Siri.
well im training my self to do what IdrisSeabright suggested and that is the not pause so its "heySiri" how or find ect go right into the question and she is almost to cheery. Sey it once and pause and her dark side shows up.
When she goes dark, i get this mental picture of the stereotypical Brooklyn accent secretary painting her nails! (i do have her using the Australian female accent.
I wonder what is the most popular voice is in the English speaking countries Still would love to hear the dark secret of apples's engineers as to why or where those snarky greetings came from. Like having a parrott learn a bad word?
Has anyone got the "Yeah what do you want"reply?
I believe you have another piece of the perception of these responses. With me, with that voice it really does come acreoss with pretty high level of attitude. The leave me alone i will be with you ,take a number, take a seat ect. atitude. But your OFS is indeed a huge part of it. Having kids using the yard as a short cut, or walking their dog and my yard seems to be the rest stop.
I think the voice is something i may change also. The irish voice always sounds kind of Valley Girl like to me and the low huskiness of the aussie and the british voices sound much more irritating , when just saying a few words.LOL I have not checked lately ,I wonder if they have one of the asian sounding language. But the no pause does the best.
I got to work on the OFS level which when you live alone and semi retired tends to go off the scale,LOL
Any one ever had Siri I phone get in a short discussion with 'Siri imac? Late nite and the TV set if off, about 1 min of Siri trying to figure out who is calling out! Thinking, also, a high irritation factor also enters into the opinion. This darn logitech K750 going in and out, very aggravating n
I live alone and I am retired. Still don't have the issue.
I use the Irish female but don't make the valley girl connection. And I grew up in the San Fernando Valley.
One reason I leave mine on Irish female is when I go to my favorite coffee shop and have directions turned on with CarPlay I like when she says "turn into the Car Park".
Since the voice is not human and is pretty much unchanging any assessment of attitude has to be coming from the human side of the equation at this time. Have you seen the movie "Her"?
Maybe I need to suggest to Apple that they add a setting for Siri for your OFS level? They could build in a test to her to gauge what your scale is and Siri could adjust accordingly.
its a bummer sometimes being the only human around, so tend to have a let down when Siri talks with attitude
Yes i saw HER r, kind of creepy, there is a natural limit on what one can expect. the connection with the valley girls
is the stereo typical manner of speech used in a lot of dialog , they are portraided as having higher pitch voices and tend to talk up. Instead of finishing with a down ward descending inflection . they are often shown as ending a sentence withan upward inflection. You know? end sound higher that you started
No. if they need to build its a way to change her hearing so the question can be asked without the interruption i really like Siri but the smart aleck attitude is just an irritant but it is a whole lot better nnow that i know that you can avoid ,it by the way the question is asked.
I just bought a new MacBook and Siri is saying uh-huh to me when I say "Hey Siri". Whose brilliant idea was this? . . . for Apple's personal assistant to say "un-huh" when someone speaks to her? This does not live up to the quality of an Apple product that so many people have come to expect.
I just discovered that if I don't say anything when Siri says uh-huh to me, she will then say "Yes?" Why not skip the uh-huh and have Siri go directly to "yes?" I find uh-huh offensive and am truly surprised that anyone at Apple would think this was a good idea. Imagine what Steve would have said if someone showed him a Siri program that had Siri saying uh-huh to people when they spoke to her.
My iPhone doesn't do this. With my iPhone, a brief tone is played that tells you that Siri hears you and is ready to respond. Apparently only Mac users get the pleasure of having Siri say uh-huh to them. Hey Apple! Please get rid of the uh-huh with the next update.
My new iPhoneSE(2020) does not do this. It is my new MacBook Air purchased just this month that does this. Why would Apple have two different Siri responses depending on what Apple product one is using? The odd thing is, if when you hear the "uhhuh" you say nothing at all, Siri will then say either "Yes" or "Go Ahead". Whose idea was it to have Siri say "unhuh" first, then, only if you don't say anything, say "Yes" or "Go Ahead"? Whoever thought that was a good idea ought to be working in the shipping department, not in product development.
My comment was not about my iPhone. I am perfectly happy with the features on my iPhoneSE2020. My comments here have been about my new MacBook Air, where Siri says "uhhuh" when you say Hey Siri. What the heck is uhhuh? Who at Apple thought this would be a good idea, to have Siri say "uhhuh". This is far beneath the quality some many people, including me, have come to expect from an Apple product.
Siri does NOT say "uhhuh" to me on my iPhoneSE2020. Is that because the features on the iPhoneSE are not rich enough? If my iPhoneSE2020 had rich enough features, Siri would say "uhhuh" to me when I addressed her with my Mac? If that's the case, then I wish I could have the same poor features on my Mac that I have on my IPhoneSE2020.
Maybe in an Apple product with really opulent features, Siri would say, "Yeah, what the f..k to you want now?"
As I have stated in an earlier post, Siri doesn't always work, so you are left repeating "hey Siri" over and over until it registers and then "uh huh".
A simple tone of acknowledgement like it did before would be perfectly fine. And yes I know, submit a request. We have done that. this is just a thread to vent a little.
My iphone 7 pings and a weird blob appears. If you say nothing it just disappears.
I never had any problems getting a verbal response but I am now on home button only as Siri used to interrupt me when I was on a zoom call on the laptop...
Siri “i didn’t understand that “
Me “Shut up Siri, Im talking”
Siri “ goodbye would be more polite “
British male Siri is like having a butler.
I don't now why you are unable to understand my comments. I'm not talking about capabilities of one iPhone over another. I'm talking about Siri ON MY NEW MACBOOK saying uhhuh when people address her. My IPhoneSE2020 doesn't do that and I AM GLAD IT DOESN'T! Saying "uhhuh" when addressed is unprofessional and far beneath the quality that so many people have come to expect from an Apple product REGARDLESS OF IT'S CAPABILITIES.
I understand your comments. I was using phones as an example of how different devices with different capabilities can have variations on a feature. But, as that example apparently went right past you, I'll try again. Your phone and your computer have completely different operating systems and different types of hardware. They do lots of things differently. They both have a browser called "Safari" but those browsers work and look differently.
I like "uh huh". I find it amusing. But then, I don't expect Siri, which has different hardware and software than a person, to work like a person.

On the literal side as opposed to the opinion side, I often just can't hear the response( to many yrs of lead guitar playing) Don't say i should be closer, I did not want a walki talki. over!
Assuming you're talking about your iPhone, turn the volume up. When Siri is active on the screen, use the volume buttons to raise the response volume. But, keep in mind that, if you have a hearing loss, yes, you may need to keep your device closer in order to hear it. Or keep headphones in when you're far away from your phone.

Do you happen to know which option to choose when I send feedback? I do not see a Siri option.
As Siri is part of the operating system, just pick the operating system you're using.
there is no solution. So now you know.
Here.
There is no solution "here".
Nobody promised one one "here".
The proper course of action has been given. That you don't like it does not stop it from being the proper course of action.
