Change the voice. The Uh-Huh seems to be associated with the South American Female voice option.
For instance the American Male has proper, respectful, intelligent sounding replies. I’m sure others do as well, you’d just have to try out different ones.
Or just don't wait between "Hey, Siri" and your question. Siri only says that if you pause. So, no pause, no uh-huh.

I agree that it is disrespectful. Many of us raised in the South have a knee jerk reaction to that sort of response.
Then it's a good thing you rarely or never have to hear it if you use "Hey, Siri..." properly.
I wish we could get this solved. It was nice when Siri would respond with my name. The uh-huh answer has to go. One day when I have time I'll call Apple Support. Siri should have really grown to next-level support after all these years but it's stayed and same and lost a few steps.
I believe the comparisons to humans is because Siri is programmed to imitate them. i. e. Languages/ accents / jokes etc. We as owners simply expect for the CO$T of convenience, to have our personal experience with our programmed devices the way we would prefer them to be.
I absolutely love technology and pray I live to experience a more personalized product.
Siri randomly says "uhhuh" on my iPhone 11 without me saying "Hey Siri".
Saying "uhhuh" serves no functional purpose and unfortunately perpetuates the stereotype that Siri is unintelligent. If the purpose of "uhhuh" is to indicate that Siri has heard you say "Hey Siri" and is waiting for you to speak then why not say that instead of grunting.
What is the point of having a nickname if all Siri says is mmhm or uh huh….. I’m burnt out with it. Makes me even more frustrated when I can’t find my phone and I call out to her and all I get it that stupid response, can’t even hear it. I would like to know what moron(s) even put that in the I phone to be a response.
This is ongoing since 2019? My IPhone 11 pro max Siri did not always speak using slang. If we can afford an iphone we can likely speak using without using slang terminology. It’s becoming offensive enough to make me look at my options…..Apple? Are you listening?
Hello IdrisSeabright ~ I agree with you 100%… but what can you do? Where is that user tip I encouraged you to write? Hey … maybe this could be your topic 😂 Still learning from you for sure and be well.

Besides driving me absolutely bananas, when I can’t find my phone and I call out to Siri I cannot hear her when she does the uh huh response, and it seems like she does it to annoy me.
Anthropomorphizing and attributing agency to digital assistants will just lead to frustration.
I have an iPhone 12 mini it started doing this after iOS update 13.0 I've tried telling it to "stop saying uh-huh" as some users had success with that. None. It's not only annoying, It's hard to hear. I'm surprised to see this has been going on for a year or more with no fix. Disappointing.
Hello ~ You can choose lots of different sounds for Siri …I myself have the British female as the annoying slang used just sounds better. The issue I have is the rude and intimate slang used. I personally am offended by it. So …I speak faster and try to avoid it.

What I am not understanding is, why isn’t apple doing anything about this…..? Many people are expressing this bothers them and they chose to ignore it. I e been apple since phones came out, now I’m thinking twice about converting to Samsung…..

Apple may not be doing anything about it for any number of reasons:
1) They like it this way. Apple has a long history of giving customers what they believe the customer needs.
2) Because more people have been telling them they like it than don't.
3) Because very few people have actually complained.
4) Because they're considering changing it but it's fairly far down the list. Only people who have never programmed anything think that any change in something as complex as iOS is ever "simple".
But, no one here in these forums can actually say for certain and Apple's participation in this forum doesn't include answering questions like that.
Personally, I like it and did submit feedback to that effect.
I can’t stand the new SIri response. The ‘Uh hug’ or Mmm?’ Response when I say Hey Siri sounds so nonchalant and disinterested it could be considered rude if it was a human. I misplace my phone a lot and use the crisp clear Siri bell sound to locate it. The new answering protocol makes that much harder to do. I just upgraded to an IPhone 12 but if they don’t fix this ridiculous answering protocol, this will be my last IPhone and I have told apple that using their feedback form. I guess some hope dude or dudette at Apple thinks that saying ‘uh huh is cool or something. Not in the world I was brought up in

Pathetic that this was actually put into an apple device. Bad taste at best.
I love it.
This is the funniest thread in ASC!🤣
I'm inclined to agree!
I can’t believe that there are so many “like-minded” people out there who feel equally unimpressed with Siri’s activation response. I too find this “uhh-haa” or Um-umm” or Mm-mm” equally as dismissive or even disrespectful. Would anyone in the real world really reply or worse greet you back in this way? I mean really?? Isn’t the purpose of the likes of Siri supposed to emulate a real person? Im sorry, but this doesn’t at all. If the developers can create a way of allowing Siri to be “taught” to respond the way an individual prefers to be addressed, then that way those that like this kind of dismissive response can keep it and the rest of us that would like a “normal” or even more “ respectful or engaging” response can change it.
