Change the voice. The Uh-Huh seems to be associated with the South American Female voice option.
For instance the American Male has proper, respectful, intelligent sounding replies. I’m sure others do as well, you’d just have to try out different ones.
Or just don't wait between "Hey, Siri" and your question. Siri only says that if you pause. So, no pause, no uh-huh.
How many people are happy with it? Apparently most of the 1 billion users, because only a few dozen are complaining.
Of course, if you are polite to Siri then Siri won’t say “uh huh”. I’ve never heard “uh huh” in any of the many daily reactions I have with Siri.
Truthfully, in conversations I always wait for the other person to indicate they are able to communicate (especially if I am about to ask them for something) rather than just talking “at” them. We just just communicate with people differently. No big deal. Thanks for your help.

Thank you. I have just switched from a VERY old phone so will have to acclimate.
When people first started asking about this, I was very confused as I'd never heard it happen. I had an iPhone 7 at the time. You needed to wait. By the time I got my iPhone 11 Pro, I knew about it. Sometimes, I wait just to make it mutter at me. Makes me giggle every time.

sure you can speak without a pause and not hear “uh huh” but the fact it’s there and apple ignores the complaints about is not what I would expect from the company. Steve Hobs would fire whoever came it with it, must less let’s it continue.
Are you talking about the Steve Jobs who, when people said they were having signal strength issues, told them they were holding the phone wrong? Are you talking about the same Steve Jobs who had to be talked into including a keyboard with the first Mac? Or the same Steve Jobs who eliminated things like the floppy disk drive, the serial port and the optical drive? All of which people complained about?
Or is Steve Hobs someone different?
No you didn’t. I can’t stand the fact that people just make up things just to write something in the comments. First of all they didn’t take it off so how can they put it back? 2nd, real human assistants don’t address or respond to their superiors that way. 3rd, nobody compliments Siri saying uh huh or mmmhmm. Maybe they complimented your phone or the fact that u have a virtual assistant because obviously they have those sucky androids. But I don’t believe for one second that they complimented a uneducated disrespectful unprofessional response. Stop it please.
Can someone post the actual solution to this? Everybody is conversing about it but nobody has actually told us how to stop this annoying response. It’s unprofessional and stupid and I want it to stop. Apple Wth!

Hello ~ Unprofessional to me would be using terms like ”sucky” and “Wth”. The question has been asked re- asked then answered and re-answered many, many times.

Now you expect people to actually read other responses in a thread they post in before posting the same question for the 100th time?
I agree totally. This is a horrible update. I have iphone 11 too. Siri responds with "ah-ha", "mm-hmm" and a lot of similar isms. There are several issues besides the fact that it just sounds stupid, informal, and annoying.... the sound of these utterances are simply not very audible. Siri used to have a chime/bleep when awaikening which was very audible while driving. I much prefer that. I cannot hear the new "ah-huh". Also, for some reason there's a terrible lag time with the new response that seems new.
Why can't Apple just have Siri say "how can I help?" when awakening, or something more normal. This is a bad new feature, IMO.

I think they should make here respond to just "Hey, Siri" to how Steve Jobs would reply if someone said "Hey Steve" and nothing else. The response would be something like, "What the %#$* do you want!" I think I will send that in as feedback.
I was excited to read this and I just downloaded the Irish voices (male and female). Sadly both continue to say hmmhmm for me instead of How can I Help?
Miss the old days when Siri just responded with a musical tone to confirm it has been activated

I don’t; why should I have to wait for technology? Who is in charge, the human, or the hunk of plastic and metal? I much prefer to say “Hey Siri, what is today’s weather?” or “Hey Siri, call my brother on his mobile”. And assume that Siri has been activated; it always has been when I do this. I have never heard Siri say “uh huh”.

3. If I call Lawrence's wife and just say "Honey" will also get an "uh huh" response. Just curious.
Maybe from his wife. But you might possibly get aa different response from Lawrence. ;-)
That’s not the solution. That’s a temporary fix. Just like changing the voice is a temporary fix. I said a SOLUTION. Like how to stop it or turn it off or change it permanently. Not hurry up and talk. I don’t want it to be able to do that at all. I want to remove that option completely.

I did that too I changed it to a British accent and it gave me the chime at first and I was happy and satisfied with that but then I woke up the next day and said “hey Siri” (about to ask for the weather) and in her British accent she said “hmm?” I immediately got aggravated and said Nevermind then manually looked at the weather.
