Change the voice. The Uh-Huh seems to be associated with the South American Female voice option.
For instance the American Male has proper, respectful, intelligent sounding replies. I’m sure others do as well, you’d just have to try out different ones.
Or just don't wait between "Hey, Siri" and your question. Siri only says that if you pause. So, no pause, no uh-huh.
Hello ~ In that case say “Siri, where are you?” Siri then will reply “ Here I am” or “ I’m over here.” You can find your iPhone much easier that way. Experiment and see what works best. If you need a longer dialogue with Siri ask “Hey Siri, how do you spell hippopotamus?” or ask Siri “Hey Siri, can you recite a poem?” that will keep them speaking for awhile and it will be interesting. Give that a try.

My problem with “uh huh” is that you can’t hear it as well as “yes”. I call Siri a lot when I’m trying to find my phone!
Uh-huh. 😉
Seems easier to ask “Hey Siri, where’s my iPhone?”
It’ll light up and turn on the locator chime, if it’s in voice range.

This is why I love this forum. I learn all kinds of things from other folks. Not that you and Katana-San mention this, it seems obvious (and I should keep up with Support Article updates!). As I have an Apple Watch, I generally use it to ping my phone. I'll have to try this the next time my phone gets lost under a cat.

Under a cat? 🐾 I wouldn’t recommend triggering the locator, then. Cats remember. 🩹
The occasional novel stimulus it good for them.
Her response is disrespectful and super annoying. A simple yes or no would be much better. I’d like an option where she says “yes sir” since she’s working for me. What programmer disrespected customers enough to teach their product to speak like a disrespectful and rude child.
People should not think of them selfs on a horse that can’t be toppled. If you are saying we should not be making our voices heard here then why are so many people doing so. Who ever decided to make the program this way should have to explain why. The people want it corrected.
I see these posts are 2019 and yet Siri has just started this on my SE 2nd generation only recently in 2022, and I always keep IOS updated. These terms “uh huh” and “mm” are moronic and whoever thought this was a good idea needs some lessons in etiquette. In addition; voice 1 and voice 2, why can’t Apple say it like it is; Male voice and female voice. Is this some kind of political correctness exercise?

I am hoping they correct this soon.
"Correct this" would imply that it's some sort of mistake. I'm pretty sure at this point that Apple did it intentionally and sees no need to change it.

You can certainly talk about it hear., But the only people who are "hearing" you are other users. If you really care about Apple knowing your feelings, use the feedback page. That's where Apple reads and listens. The link has been given repeatedly. A truly polite person would have read the entire thread and would be aware of all of this and the link.

That's not going to happen.

Please don't presume to speak for everyone. It's rude. I, for one, don't want it changed.
Perhaps everyone should be less concerned about being "disrespected" by Siri and be more concerned about being respectful to real people.
I will have to apologize for being rude when I felt I was being rude too. But after thinking about Siri’s response I remembered that the old Siri aloud one to change Siri’s response. But it doesn’t work in the new edition. I am hoping they will correct this in the future. I’m hoping to hear of a solution. I did post a response to Apple but don’t expect a response.
Thanks. I guess that will help. In the past I always had to wait for Acknowledgment before I spoke or had to repeat myself because it never heard me (turn on). Now it’s a habit hard to break. I always have a hard time with disappointing results.
The main issue for me is when Siri answers with mhmm and ah-ha, if I’m in the kitchen and cooking and if the phone is on the counter and I want to turn on a timer, can’t hear her / him / it respond. Besides the responses being annoying. So turning Siri off until grows up.
I don’t like it either. It also says, “Mmmmm?” which makes no sense. Sometimes I can’t even hear it respond and the pause messes me up because I start to speak and it “uh huh”s over me. Because it’s not real, I don’t consider it rude; I just consider it a poor choice.
You say “Hey Joe” to get his attention. If he responds by saying “Yes” then you know you have Joe’s attention. You proceed with your question after you certainly know that you have his attention.
It is not rude to pause, it is natural especially if you aren’t sure the person is attentive.

In my family that would have been considered rude.
