That’s because no one taught you to speak English properly. “Uh huh” is a rude and dismissive expression and if you family members spoke to you that way it was unfortunate. We should not encourage anyone to think that is normal and acceptable speech.

I don't like these responses. #1, I use "Hey, Siri" to find my phone a lot of the time.. busy person, always putting my phone down somewhere... when Siri uses this response, I can't always hear her. So I don't know if Siri heard me at all, leading me to wonder, where did I leave my phone lol

It would be nice to see the change back to "Yes", or maybe optional responses. I suppose I could always use my watch to ping my phone, but I'm not always wearing it lol. Anyway, I prefer the "Yes" response. Thanks!

Dear Apple,

Please give us the option of choosing Formal or informal versions of Siri's responses. Or even better let us choose how she answers us. If we want it to to say "Yes, Name?" or whatever other phrase we want. I would like to add or remove words from the vocabulary myself to an extent. That way people who don't mind the "mhm", "Fine", "Uh huh?", "sure" answers can keep that version and people who want a voice that sounds like good customer service which is why I bought an apple can have what they want.

Please. I feel like my virtual assistant is being rude to me. Like I am bothering it for help. It feels like bad customer service from Apple frankly. If I went into an Apple store store and asked for help and the person assisting me said "uh huh?" instead of "how may I help you?" would that be appropriate? I certainly don't think so.

If you change the voice type (Irish, or others) - go to settings, Siri & search, and then pick a different voice type (my wife likes Irish) and you will not get the Uhhuh.

That's certainly not the case with the British voice that I have selected. If I pause, Siri says "uh huh?" If I don't pause, I never hear that. It's really simple.

Te uh-huh is social experiment. It’s a way to make Siri sound more personable, more human. Interesting that people find this disrespectful and annoying. I think it speaks volumes on how we want to be spoken to and perceived. Some think of Siri as a professional assistant others as a casual friend so I’m guessing that’s why there’s the knee-jerk reaction to it. Using my Apple Watch I’ve moved to the raise wrist and ask a question without saying “hey Siri” and I like it so much better, it’s more direct, faster and I don’t need an acknowledgement that she’s listening. In any event I think Apple should probably give us the option for a Siri professional and a Siri casual.

The real issue is if I say "Hey Siri create appointment for Wednesday at 10:AM Subject Dentist" (without waiting for a response), sometimes she never actually activated and I had no idea. Only to find out after no response at all. this happens sometimes when my phone is on my desk in front of me or I have my Air Pod Pros in.

It is just annoying that's all. And when you pause, you get a douchebag response of Uh-Huh, Yes would be nicer. or even a tone to let you know Siri heard your initial "Hey Siri"

I also had the iPhone 11 Pro Max and I just upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Same story and I cannot stand it. It is disrespectful and you wouldn’t want your children saying uh-huh. Or talking with a mouthful. They’ve known about this because I’ve called a couple times. With the cost of these phones they should have an understanding what the consumer does not like.

That’s nice that you like it and I’ve read on previous discussions there are people that do and people that don’t. I’ve got three people in my household that don’t. It would be nice if you had your choice to keep it or change it. I’ve had iPhones since the iPhone 3s. It used to be on most things you could configure or change things how you want them. This was just done so at the beginning we thought there was a glitch. Who knows maybe later we will have a choice to configure it. Just a thought.

I don’t blame you. I wish they’d have regular folks who use the phone continuously and have for years to find out what they can do just to improve using it. I’ve also complained that it chooses its own nouns when I do Siri to text, such as when I say her it will type him, or when I say he it will type them, etc. I do have a few complaints and I’ve emailed or called for years but nothing gets done on the issues I feel are important to me. Don’t get me started on my own music that I downloaded from CDs and synced with my phone and all my songs that I own have disappeared. Unfortunately when I did it I trusted them so much I got rid of my CDs that I’ve had for years. Good luck and keep us posted. I really appreciate it.

It’s absolutely awful. I realize it’s a bit of a nitpick, but this kind of rude bullshit is what you get at the grocery stores the motor vehicle ministration places were people don’t care about customer service I don’t want my phone to be a dumb bitch. It sounds unintelligent, I realize it’s supposed to be conversational I don’t want conversational I want a matter of fact compliance with my requests.
