iPhone 11 volume low

My 11 pro has issues with volume & volume control. This AM I had a missed call due to same issue.

Anyway, this morning I was playing some music (pandora/youtube music) and the level was way too low. The only advice I could find on web was to goto Music setting -> EQ -> nightlife (sp). I clicked, no change. Then I clicked on other EQ settings with no appreciable responses.

Then I started to examine the volume control. Sliding it up to max vol, down to min produced NO appreciable response. But then, as I kept on sliding it and perhaps changing between music apps, it came to and started working!

IMHO, this is a major problem and should be addressed right away.

Otherwise, btw, I love the Iphone 11 pro.

I thought i had the same problem. Call volume seemed very low and even when the side volume buttons used to go to max it made no change. Then I realised there is a setting. Go to SETTINGS, SOUNDS AND HAPTICS, then look at RINGERS AND ALERTS. the CHANGE WITH BUTTONS option on my phone was not enabled. As soon as I enabled it the ringer volume is easily adjusted and works fine.

I had this problem too. Volume appeared to be on Max but notification sounds (e.g: placing on wireless charger, or camera shutter click) was 10% of normal volume. tried several solutions I;d read, e.g: sliding volume up & down, going to Settings>Sound & Haptics>Change with buttons, made no difference.

In the end, the solution for me was just to perform a hard reset (quickly press top volume button, followed by quickly pressing bottom volume then holding power button - even after power off slider appears - keep holding until Apple logo appears).

After that, volume returned to full level on Max.

I’m seeing the same behavior. Speaker volume randomly “sticks” at a nearly inaudible level and cannot be changed. Pressing either of the volume buttons does change the on-screen slider up and down as expected, but the speaker volume doesn’t change. There is no visible indication that the phone is stuck in headphones mode. When it gets in this condition, I have tried turning off Bluetooth, closing all apps as well as all of the recommendations in this forum thread. None of them work for me. The only way I have found to correct it is to restart the phone. After the restart, it works fine for a random period of time (anywhere from a couple of days to sometimes a whole week). I have resorted to restarting my phone every morning in hopes that prevents it from happing during business hours (I rely on this phone for my business clients).

This sort of behavior from a $1K+ flagship device is absolutely unacceptable! (A similar situation to this is precisely why I dumped my Windows phone years ago.) Apple, if you’re listening, you’re making the Samsung handsets look better and better every time this happens!

This started happening to me about 1 month ago, could barely hear people on a call unless it was on speaker phone. Tried all the sound setting fixes and updates but didn't work. Thought for sure my earpiece speaker was busted but decided to try to clean it out with a clean toothbrush and screen cleaner and IT WORKED!!! Give it a try, hopefully it's just dirt/sweat build up....

I fixed it! I read in other forums that if you still had your plastic on the screen (while waiting for cover to arrive) it might affect the volume. It did. I took it off. Tried it out and it worked! Volume is great. Even got too loud, because I put it to Max on the volume buttons before as I could not hear the person on the other line at all.

Hope this helps!

I'm currently experiencing the same problem:

Apple advisor response: When a new iPhone has the same issues as the old (which I did) iPhone it usually means that was saved in the back up from the old device and then transferred to the new device during a restore.

Remedy: The best way to test this would be to connect the iPhone to a computer, back it up, restore it then set it up as new.

Haven't tried it as of yet.

Go to your local apple store and ask for technical support. I had mine checked out not 24hrs after having used it right out of the box. They told me it's a physical problem with the buttons. Waiting on my replacement iPhone 11 Pro Max 256Gb. Hope this helps you.

Key things to verify this is a hardware issue:

  • You restored it using iTunes or finder on macOS Catalina and your problem was resolved for a while, but came back (took mine about 3 hrs), then the side button froze indefinitely. No woking volume up either.

  • Your iPhone 11 or 11 Pro doesn't let you take screenshots.

  • The power/side button sometimes falters (doesn't lock the screen or has a short delay in doing so).

  • You are unable to "Slide to Shut Down".

  • Hard reset is impossible due to the buttons not working.

Your iPhone screen froze in the camera app and doesn't let you quit out of it. Other applications work. Notifications and replies are good, but you are unable to lock your phone, switch out of the app or open settings.

All of the above happened to me on a New Midnight Green iPhone 11 Pro Max 256 GB a day after setting it up, please don't hesitate to restore and take to your local apple retail store...

Also check the volume buttons/side button work thoroughly after opening the box... Never had these kinds of issues with my previous 6s Plus, 7Plus, or iPhone X.

I am seriously considering forfeiting Apple Care and just purchasing some third party insurance. Who knows when this issue will pop again on my replacement "stock factory" iPhone that they'll provide.

This is a long shot, but worth a try.

I'm currently having volume issues whereby after a bank card to Wallet, having 'double-click side button' enabled in 'Settings' > 'Wallet and Apple Pay' causes the volume of my lock sound to be messed up. See thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250764992

Anyway, since it's a volume-related fault, it's worthwhile testing whether disabling 'double-click side button' on the iPhone 11 Pro affects this sound issue too; it may be a related issue that is manifesting differently across different phone models.
