No Siri audio over bluetooth

New iPhone 11 Pro Max - IOS 13.1.2 (updated today but issue was same in 13.1.1 ) - I have no siri audio over bluetooth devices. First noticed in my car when asking Siri questions (usually comes through car speakers) but when asked a question, remains completely silent but Siri animation is shown on iPhone and text is on screen (say weather etc.). Music and phone calls are ok but nothing from siri. So tested the same on Bose Mini II SoundLink - same issue - no Siri audio on speaker but does play on iPhone rather than remain silent. I noticed, whilst Siri is in action, the bluetooth icon in the bottom right of the screen, so I press this and it shows two Bose SoundLinks but as soon as I press the bluetooth icon and attempt to switch to speaker, Siri stops. Again, music and calls ok over the speaker. I've tried, unpair/pair, switch off phone, restore etc - same issue.

Just also tried my airpods - siri requests played on phone initially no through airpods. Made a phone call, came through on airpods then subsequent siri request came through on Airpods !

Some clearly not right with Bluetooth on either IOS 13 or iPhone 11 !

Have an iPhone X so going to set that up shortly and test that !

An update ! I have discovered that if you say Hey Siri in the car, she will remain silent but the question will be answered on the iPhone screen. Bluetooth activates and the dash says In call. However, if you invoke Siri by pressing the side button and asking a question, Siri is heard over the car bluetooth. I have tested this numerous times and used exactly the same questions and everytime i press the side button, then ask the question, it works but invoking by saying Hey Siri does not.

I also updated to IOS 13.1.3 today and the issue remains.

So I found a work around. Park your car and say hey Siri. Click the Bluetooth icon and select the other input of the car that was duplicated. End the call or whatever on your heads up display. Ask hey Siri again and she will talk however this needs to be done each time. So the issue is definitely with the duplicated second audio device appearing on the phone. I think the issue is with Siri trying to play the output audio over “normal” full quality audio while the interface on the car comes up and switches to hands free calling to play the audio which is a different audio stream at a lesser quality. So the audio is simply being sent to the wrong audio stream while the hands free mode of the car is initiated. Hope this helps Apple.

Apple is very aware of this issue, and has been since September. Wish I'd researched the threads before buying the iPhone 11 Pro. Static in my car while on Bluetooth, and Siri cannot be heard through the car speakers unless it is for Directions via Maps. Visited the Apple Store 6 times, they replaced the handset 2 times, and then told me not to come back!!! Told me to speak with AppleCare via the 800 number.

In the past 7 days, I've spoken with AppleCare 4 times, recorded and sent logs twice. Each time, I've been told to sit tight and let the developers look into this problem Apple pretends not to know about. Each tech tells me they will call me back within 24-48 hours, and they never have.

Today, I asked for a new handset and to reset the warranty clock to zero bc my new phone does not function as marketed. One tech said, "ok" but let's wait for the technicians to reply first. Subsequent techs told me they will no longer replace the handset, and that I must sit and wait for an update from Apple. Frustrating!

Not holding my breath on a fix from Apple anytime soon. Online searches show this problem popping up in online forums right after the iPhone 11 launch. BTW, have a friend with an iPhone 11 (not Pro like) and his acts the same way with our BMW 3 Series and our Honda Odyssey, two pretty ubiquitous vehicles.

Poor execution, customer service and customer service messaging (just wait for us, tick-tock runs the warranty clock)...am about to put the 11 Pro back in a drawer and use my iPhone X. May even just take the loss and dump the 11 Pro on Ebay out of frustration. Nice camera and better battery, but total fail at its primary functions of vehicle phone and text platform.

OK, multiple reports of 13.3.1 beta working. Looks like we have success. It *has* to go through their quality process before it can go into a mainstream update – Beta is part of that.

While we can’t declare victory until we get the 13.3.1 GA update, this should be seen as a major success. We should see this go GA within 30 days at a guess.

Hey all,

I have too installed the public beta of 13.3.1 and confirm the issue seems to be resolved in this beta. However, I believe that this feature did originally work in IOS 13.0 and then subsequent updates then broke the feature so let us hope Apple keep this solved !

Just goes to show, all of you that have been blamed or told your CAR is at fault - Apple were wrong and the fact that users are now reporting this as working shows that there was an issue with previous IOS versions. I have done NOTHING to my car - yesterday BT audio didn't work - today after updating IOS - it does !! C'mon Apple, we expect better.

Now I hope that they improve Siri audio as this is TERRIBLE over BT - fine on CarPlay. Music seems ok.

Not only has Apple repeatedly engaged in the "this is the first we've ever heard of this" dance, but mods on fanboi sites like MacRumors will delete posts referring to said issue with threats of banning if brought up again. That said, I'm glad Apple is finally making progress on solving this potentially dangerous (and definitely distracting) driving-related issue! Will skip the beta and wait for production 13.3.1...

Well they solved it... kind of... i can now hear siri through the car’s bluetooth but it’s very unstable. Whenever i get a call, after about 1 minute it disconnects and it takes forever to reconnect. If i call somebody it works ok. Also, today while driving i was listening to music and using apple maps to navigate and the sound started to get distorted (high pitched) and eventually lost the connection. I can see the car’s bluetooth system and the bluetooth adapter( which i use just for music) but the adapter still shows two connections available.

I just bought an iPhone XI Pro and am running iOS 13.3 on it. Siri will not speak on car speakers or when hardwired into the car system. (I do not have CarPlay). It’s not a Bluetooth issue. Siri will speak on car speakers if I activate her with the side button, which is difficult an annoying. I have a 2015 Mercedes GLK. My iPhone X did not have this issue, and I was also on 13.3 on it.

Sigh. Same issue. My vehicle is a 2015 Nissan truck; phone is an iPhone 11 Pro; operating system is 13.3--the most current release . . . and no bug fix in it for me. See the very helpful post that notes if you use the side button to initiate Siri, you'll at least get it talking through your car speakers. I tried this. It worked. I don't know how you'd get Siri mapping to do the same, speak through your car system, but who uses Apple/Siri mapping anyway if Google or your car nav system is available?

Are we right in assuming that Apple is continuing to work this flaw in its 13 release (or it iPhone 11)?

13.3.1 beta 2

i got the following, hey siri not giving feedback through car system and now i can’t stream music through my bluetooth adapter plugged in the aux port. Long pressing the power button to summon siri still works(it gives feedback through the car bluetooth system). What i noticed is that if i use the power button to summon siri and ask her something, the next time i use Hey Siri it works, it gives me feedback normally through the car system. I got no way of streaming music anymore though through the bt adapter in the car but i can stream music through my home system. Something is very wrong here, or is it just me?

Jan 26, have the same issue. Got my iPhone 11 6 days ago. Just prior to that, my old 6s running iOS13.3 worked fine. I’d been on the phone this week with Mazda and to the Apple store and neither seemed to have ever heard of the issue, though it seems that it has existed as far back as October. At least I learned from this thread the the side button works and I can dictate texts in my car using this.

Same problem on production iOS 13.3 and 2016 Audi A3. Very frustrating. Hoping the beta gets released soon and this is problem is resolved for good. I have not experienced the static during music playback or any of the other reported issues with my bluetooth - only the no Siri feedback when trying to summon via "Hey Siri". Also, it usually takes more than one "Hey Siri" to get the phone to respond, and when it does there is no audio output.

Jan 26, 2020 10:55 PM in response to jaseyb257

Im running iOS 13.3.1 beta 3 and this still includes the Bluetooth fix/Hey Siri over car audio. Siri Bluetooth audio quality is still very poor compared to Car Play and I still have the odd occasion where Hey Siri is not heard so hope these are improved/fixed soon.

Apple seem to be taking their time on this update so hopefully they are looking to get this one right given all other issues with IOS 13 !

if you need the beta, join the Apple Beta Software Program to download and install. However public beta releases may contain some bugs so if your device is critical, hold off until final releases. Use at your own risk.
