iPhone ringer volume keeps turning down

Since upgrading to iOS 13.1(now 13.1.2), the volume on the phone that that I normally have set on maximum level, keeps lowering on its own to about 25%. I became aware of the problem when my alerts (email, text, other alerts) were often barely audible if phone was in my pants pocket.

I can raise it back to maximum and it can lower on it's own within a few minutes even if the phone has not been in use, having any activity, or even wakened. One I time raised the volume, plugged it in to charge while in the car, picked it up less than two minutes later and the volume had dropped. In a thirty minute timeframe of checking, the volume dropped four times. The phone has now gone an hour without the volume changing so doesn't appear to be time related.

All though these events I did not use (or touch) the side volume buttons other than to raise it back to my normal levels.

Under settings/sounds & haptics, the Change with Buttons is on and does function.

I have an iPhone Pro Max 12, am on ios 14.4.2 and have the same problem. Additionally, I have 'change with buttons' off...but my side volume buttons still function the same. Totally confusing and annoying.

Apple..... WHEN are you going to address this issue.? Your phones are of no value if we mill all of our calls.

Update: I heard back from the senior advisor overseeing my case. Engineering wants me to monitor ringer and alert volume and document through recording and time stamps the volume reduction instances. When I have three occurrences documented, I need to submit the data for further analysis. In the last 24 hours I have only had one event to document so this might take a few days. I will report back in a few days.

There appear to be several different problems in this thread. Mine was a straight Bluetooth problem that was very consistent and appears to be fixed by iOS 14. Some seem related to mine but also seem to have an app in the mix. Some seem completely random and others are related to Apple’s obscure settings and features. As much variation as there is between iPhone models and the software installed, I wonder how any of it could work at all.

Nothing yet. I would follow some of the suggestions posted on this thread, for some these are lasting solutions. The outlier cases, I suspect, are related to Bluetooth connect/disconnect issues as well as 3rd party apps interfacing with iOS. I'm still waiting to hear back from Apple engineering to find out if they have found anything on my phone that could be causing the issue. If they don't find anything, my last ditch hope is a full erase and factory install of iOS (no restore from back-up). Then one by one adding back 3rd party apps to see if the problem is being caused by a particular app. This will be an excruciatingly tedious and cumbersome process. I hope it doesn't come to this.

Update to previous post; read below. One other task I performed. My speaker in my phone damaged. As part of identifying issue Verizon had me “reset all settings “ which was a pain, but either that reset OR iOS 14.0.1 update took care of my problem with ringer volume.

thx

Here is my previous post;

Ok

i have iOS 14.0.1 current update installed. It now appears that when I connect to my gmc 2020 truck the ringer volume lowers on Bluetooth to match volume setting of the radio volume. The fix for me is now when I disconnect from Bluetooth the volume goes back to the original setting I had prior to connecting to Bluetooth.

I have the same problem and I spoke with Apple Advisor who stated that they have no reports of this problem. He wants me to do a Factory reset, but I don’t feel comfortable doing that. Since they have “no” reports of this happening to anyone but me I suggest you report this by going to apple.com/feedback. Maybe if enough people report this they will come up with a correction. I tried all suggestions in this post to no avail.

Update: still haven't heard back from Apple yet. I decided not to wait for Apple and just do a complete erase and restore to factory settings. Last week I did a restore installing from a back up which didn't resolve the problem. So today I did a fresh factory install and have spent the better part of the day getting all my settings dialed in. So far so good. If this ends up working then there was obviously something corrupt in an app or the previous iOS install. For those who haven't tried a restore to factory settings, it's worth a try if all other remedies haven't worked. As always, back up your iPhone first so that if the new (factory) install doesn't resolve the issue you can always restore from the back up. Again, I only recommend this as an absolute last ditch effort because there is a chance of losing data when you restore to factory settings. This is a time consuming way to go so give yourself plenty of time before you need the phone again.

So I came here looking for an answer as to why when I heard my alarm after waking up late this morning was so low. I checked my settings and it was set all the way down with my option “change with buttons” off ( i had that option on). After reading brysten12 comment about connecting to his truck makes sense. I connected to a truck yesterday. Before bed I always make sure the volume is all the way up but wouldn’t of made a difference because my options where changed when I connected to the truck. Great! I woke up late and didn’t make it in to work and now have a “no call no show” at my job. I won’t be using my iPhone for an alarm anymore

My iPhone 8 plus he’s been doing the same thing and all I can think of is that when I go to look up a YouTube video and It’s so loud I have to turn it down that my phone doesn’t compare on the level of their output or something. And I have the problem too where I’ll think I’m great good to go for my alarm and any calls and then come to find out my ringer was off my media was off or my volume was all the way down. Sometimes I’ve noticed that my silence button is easier to flip than it used to be, that will happen sometimes but I’m still experiencing the other stuff.
