iPhone ringer volume keeps turning down

Hey y'all, could this be the Attention Aware Features option under FaceID & Passcode? I turned that off just now on a hunch, does this problem happen on non Face-ID phones?

I found the solution to this problem on my iPhone through another Internet search. I had to go into Settings, tap Face ID & Passcode, and disable the Attention Aware Features option.

This is happening to me as well. I assumed it was a problem with my new headphones; turns out it’s a bug in iOS 13!

This issue is incredibly frustrating. Nothing works to fix it. Certain actions, like pausing media playback and then typing in something, resuming playback, and even just plugging in a charging cable (presumably via playing the ‘charging’ noise) all trigger semi-random volume alterations. Often these result in extremely loud media playback which is actively hurting my ears. It’s hard to believe this has gone unaddressed by Apple considering people are being injured. As a company committed to accessibility, Apple should take active harm very seriously.

It seems like this bug is related to how the system seems to alter the volume for everything when it goes between media playback and sound effects. It should instead be keeping separate volumes for these things instead of triggering phantom volume alterations; it seemed to be doing this in past versions of iOS.

Please fix this, Apple. It’s super frustrating and painful at turns.

This is certainly a bluetooth issue - I've assumed that this issue was caused by my 2019 GMC Sierra and after driving my wife's 2017 GMC Acadia for the last 2 weeks, my phone hasn't acted up once, further proving where the issue lies.

On my new I Phone 11 I have this same issue, I think that it's the lock screen function that seems to be causing it. I had to manually go into lock screen and add my ringtone for my phone ringer from the default chime. There is a setting in do not disturb that silences calls when lock screen is on that I could not modify or turn off. I think this is probably where the problem lies. After I modified my lock screen ringtone it seems to be working now.

This just started happening to my phone about 2 weeks ago. Using process of elimination I'm convinced my ringer volume goes low/off every time my iPhone connects to the bluetooth of my new Chevy truck... which I bought 2 weeks ago. Every time I leave my truck now I have to go into settings/sounds & haptics and return my ringer to normal volume. Toggling "change with buttons" to "off" does not fix the problem.

Every time my phone connects to the Bluetooth in the car, it’s like it’s being controlled by the car volume for a second and gets set pretty low instantly.

I also noticed when Bluetooth or headphones are connected the volume indicator bar pops up to let you know which volume the phone is at every 20 seconds.

Mine is Bluetooth related for sure. Anytime I connect to a Bluetooth device the volume display on my phone opens and is set to a lower volume as if I am pushing the buttons. Then it stays there until I manually reset it to full... usually after I have missed a call or text. Since I am a volunteer firefighter and we get our emergency pages through automated calls and text messaging, I am greatly concerned about this issue. Most other calls I get can wait until I notice them but not the emergency pages.

The only “random” problem I have with volume is when I don’t pay attention to how I place the phone in the holder. Sometimes I get it clamped against the buttons.

I’ve finished a call with Apple Support. I spoke to them week ago when they ran some diagnostics and uploaded a lot of data. Today they say their engineers have reviewed it and acknowledge there is a problem. They are working to resolve it with the next software update.

I’ll believe it when I see it. 🤞

I purchased a new 2019 Chevy blazer & the blue tooth does the same thing to my ringer. If I connect my phone with the usb charging/ data cable it doesn’t effect the ringer volume.

And you have turned off Face Aware feature in passcodes and face scan ?

This issue has zero rhyme or reason . Mine stopped doing it with iOS 14.0.1
