iPhone ringer volume keeps turning down

Since upgrading to iOS 13.1(now 13.1.2), the volume on the phone that that I normally have set on maximum level, keeps lowering on its own to about 25%. I became aware of the problem when my alerts (email, text, other alerts) were often barely audible if phone was in my pants pocket.

I can raise it back to maximum and it can lower on it's own within a few minutes even if the phone has not been in use, having any activity, or even wakened. One I time raised the volume, plugged it in to charge while in the car, picked it up less than two minutes later and the volume had dropped. In a thirty minute timeframe of checking, the volume dropped four times. The phone has now gone an hour without the volume changing so doesn't appear to be time related.

All though these events I did not use (or touch) the side volume buttons other than to raise it back to my normal levels.

Under settings/sounds & haptics, the Change with Buttons is on and does function.

I have an iPhone Pro Max 12, am on ios 14.4.2 and have the same problem. Additionally, I have 'change with buttons' off...but my side volume buttons still function the same. Totally confusing and annoying.

Apple..... WHEN are you going to address this issue.? Your phones are of no value if we mill all of our calls.

Don’t believe it has; as of today my phone still lowers ringer volume when connecting to Bluetooth. I drive a 2020 GMC Sierra, here is comments from a GM Service technician

Hank, our GM guy, said that the iPhone reverts to 30% volume so “it isn’t too loud when people call. And it gives the driver the option of choosing a volume that is comfortable to them”

Well, that is fine and dandy but not a good solution. I have missed Several calls due to leaving my truck and volume at the lowered level. And when I remember to turn it back up, as soon as I reconnect with Bluetooth down goes the volume again!! My two friends and I have three 2020 GMC sierras between us and all three have the same issue of lowering ringer volume. We all three have iPhones with latest iOS updates installed. This may be a GM software issue vs iOS.

It is irritating!!

It appears the problem has been happening for more than 5 months. I normally do not install Apple's beta IOS software but decided to give it a try in hopes it would correct the problem. 2 weeks ago I installed iOS beta 13.3 and that did not correct it. Thursday evening I installed the latest beta version 13.4 and that also did not correct the problem. So it appears that Apple is doing nothing to try and fix this major problem. I have missed some important calls because I have forgotten to turn up the ringer volume when exiting my vehicle. Apple products and their software have always been rock solid, but lately they are pushing their flawed products out to the public just to make more money, not make their customers happy. Having been a loyal Apple user since 2001, it looks like it is time to try another brand.

I found this thread months ago and made my comments. I even registered the issue with Apple. Still nothing. I've missed untold phone calls because of this. It's very irritating.

I'm certain this problem isn't associated strictly to GM vehicles. I was listening to my Bose bluetooth speaker yesterday and the sound completely stopped. I thought my phone battery had died. I checked the phone and found that the volume had suddenly dropped on its own to zero.

Apple! What the heck?! Please do something!

Yes my beatspro wireless headphones are doing the same thing. When people call into me the volume is extremely low. I work around loud machines and this is an issue missing calls. I was on the phone with Apple for 2 hours and they can not figure it out. I have replaced headphones, tried them on different devices and does the same thing not matter what. Matter a fact I am sitting In the store trying exchange them

My husband and I have both been dealing with the exact same issue since the update. He has an X and I have an 8. So it’s obviously due to the update and not our phones. And we both drive different model cars so it’s not that either. I can’t believe they have let this go on for so long. It’s a big issue when you can’t hear incoming calls because your volume goes down on its own. Very disappointed in Apple!!!!

I am having this same exact issue (iPhone 11 Max Pro) except that my Changes With Buttons has been switched off ever since I got the phone. It’s to the point now every night I have to change the volume in settings just to be sure I don’t sleep through my now silent alarms. Somedays it’s fine and will stay on max volume, other times I go into the settings before bed and it’s anywhere from 0%-30% raised. This doesn’t make any sense to me on what I am doing wrong?

Good news! I downloaded the latest beta IOS, 13.4, yesterday afternoon and the ringer volume problem has gone away. I drove my vehicle twice and the ringer volume remained at the level I set it at. So you can either download the latest beta version to fix the problem immediately or wait for Apple to release the next official update with the correction.

This just started happening to my phone about 2 weeks ago. Using process of elimination I'm convinced my ringer volume goes low/off every time my iPhone connects to the bluetooth of my new Chevy truck... which I bought 2 weeks ago. Every time I leave my truck now I have to go into settings/sounds & haptics and return my ringer to normal volume. Toggling "change with buttons" to "off" does not fix the problem.

I installed 13.4 a few days ago, and it did NOT solve the problem. As soon as it connects to BT in my 2020 Chevy Silverado, the ringer volume turns down to almost zero, and stays there after I exit the truck. So I still have to remember to turn it back up with the buttons. Which is really frustrating because I have a medical alert app on my phone with audible warnings. You'd think the biggest companies in the world could figure this out.
