iPhone ringer volume keeps turning down

Since upgrading to iOS 13.1(now 13.1.2), the volume on the phone that that I normally have set on maximum level, keeps lowering on its own to about 25%. I became aware of the problem when my alerts (email, text, other alerts) were often barely audible if phone was in my pants pocket.

I can raise it back to maximum and it can lower on it's own within a few minutes even if the phone has not been in use, having any activity, or even wakened. One I time raised the volume, plugged it in to charge while in the car, picked it up less than two minutes later and the volume had dropped. In a thirty minute timeframe of checking, the volume dropped four times. The phone has now gone an hour without the volume changing so doesn't appear to be time related.

All though these events I did not use (or touch) the side volume buttons other than to raise it back to my normal levels.

Under settings/sounds & haptics, the Change with Buttons is on and does function.

I have an iPhone Pro Max 12, am on ios 14.4.2 and have the same problem. Additionally, I have 'change with buttons' off...but my side volume buttons still function the same. Totally confusing and annoying.

Apple..... WHEN are you going to address this issue.? Your phones are of no value if we mill all of our calls.

iPhone 7 doesn’t have the attention aware “feature” (thankfully). I had to disable that on my girlfriend’s XR to fix a different problem she was having. I think the programmers are just causing problems for job security. Of course it would be nice if they would actually fix some of the problems they cause instead of just adding to them. I don’t believe this is a bug. I think it was one of their “improvements” or it would have been fixed already.

Shutting off the change with buttons feature seems to have fixed it. It still flashes the volume decrease but further inspection showed it is now the Bluetooth volume. When I turned of the device, all of my volume settings immediately went back to max and I can still adjust ringer volume with the buttons. Do they not test the software before releasing? I feel like I am dealing with an old Microsoft product.

I’m having same problem. It’s concerning to me because the dates for many of these posts is 2019. It’s 2020 and Apple hasn’t found a fix for this. I’m not getting texts in a timely manner. I don’t hear my phone ring. This is a big problem, especially if you rely on your phone for work and you are on an “on call”’status. Apple when will this be fixed??

With iOS 14 rolling out soon hopefully a fix! I love Apple but this is annoying as heck. I have been wearing out My gmc dealer. He says it’s an Apple issue and I tell him it’s an GM issue because when I connect to Bluetooth in my vehicle the volume automatically lowers ( and stays lowered) and I expect my phone to work seamlessly with GM software! GM needs to put pressure on Apple! As well as other vehicle manufacturers!

It has nothing to do with anyone’s car or CarPlay app. I don’t use either. I have 4 Bluetooth devices I connect to and my ringer volume reduces when I connect to any of them. Two are Bose aviation headsets, one is a Lightspeed aviation headset and one is a Garmin GDL antenna. The antenna does not provide audio of any kind. All it does through Bluetooth is give aviation weather and traffic information to display on my phone.

I contacted support and they acted like it was a new problem. The chat was dropped on the first attempt. One the second attempt they had me reset (turn off) the phone so they could see what happens on the reboot which ended that chat. I haven’t been able to reconnect with them since. EVERYONE who thinks this is a problem needs to connect with Apple support and let them know it needs to be fixed. 2 or 3 people contacting support won’t get anything accomplished even if they have a million complaining about it here.

Trust me, they already know about it, and know it’s a problem. They’ve known about it for months. It’s Apple...they won’t ever publicly acknowledge anything, they will just quietly fix it someday. Just like every other problem Apple has ever had. If you call, they’re gonna go through everything to do that’s already been discussed in this forum. Then have you wipe out everything on your phone and reset it. And then say they’ve never heard about it before, even though they probably get hundreds of phone calls a day about it. And then most people will do what I and everyone else has always done...go buy a new iPhone to fix the problem. It’s the same old story from Apple...after 2 years they pretty much make you buy a new phone. 🤷🏻

That makes the fix painfully obvious. People need to be smart enough to quit supporting a company that treats it’s customers like that. If things don’t improve with Apple then my next phone will not be an Apple. My phone prior to this was an Android. I have an Android tablet that I use. Neither gave/give me trouble so it isn’t a problem going back. IOS App developers should apply pressure too.

Same here & none of the questions asked by Apple make a difference-just randomly turns my volume down & not knowing this I miss calls & texts constantly. You’d think for cost of phones they could fix this. Think I’m going to trade mine in or sell & get Samsung S20 or newest Note. Never hear of problems w/their phones!
