iPhone ringer volume keeps turning down

Since upgrading to iOS 13.1(now 13.1.2), the volume on the phone that that I normally have set on maximum level, keeps lowering on its own to about 25%. I became aware of the problem when my alerts (email, text, other alerts) were often barely audible if phone was in my pants pocket.

I can raise it back to maximum and it can lower on it's own within a few minutes even if the phone has not been in use, having any activity, or even wakened. One I time raised the volume, plugged it in to charge while in the car, picked it up less than two minutes later and the volume had dropped. In a thirty minute timeframe of checking, the volume dropped four times. The phone has now gone an hour without the volume changing so doesn't appear to be time related.

All though these events I did not use (or touch) the side volume buttons other than to raise it back to my normal levels.

Under settings/sounds & haptics, the Change with Buttons is on and does function.

I have an iPhone Pro Max 12, am on ios 14.4.2 and have the same problem. Additionally, I have 'change with buttons' off...but my side volume buttons still function the same. Totally confusing and annoying.

Apple..... WHEN are you going to address this issue.? Your phones are of no value if we mill all of our calls.

Mine is Bluetooth related for sure. Anytime I connect to a Bluetooth device the volume display on my phone opens and is set to a lower volume as if I am pushing the buttons. Then it stays there until I manually reset it to full... usually after I have missed a call or text. Since I am a volunteer firefighter and we get our emergency pages through automated calls and text messaging, I am greatly concerned about this issue. Most other calls I get can wait until I notice them but not the emergency pages.

The only “random” problem I have with volume is when I don’t pay attention to how I place the phone in the holder. Sometimes I get it clamped against the buttons.

Lets all take a moment to realize that the original post was from October 2, 2019. NINE MONTHS AGO!!! This has gone through a new year, new phone releases and multiple updates. This has nothing to do with car make and model, or iPhone model. Bluetooth may effect it for those who commented that fact, but it’s not the originating issue. My iPhone XR is used for work and I never connect it to Bluetooth anything. What is obvious is it seemed to happen after we updated past 13.1. This is seriously messing things up for my work. I’m on call. I manage a crisis and suicide center. I miss important calls for intake on a nightly basis. I literally have peoples life in my hands. I saw another commenter who was a firefighter and missed alerts on his. Like wtf Apple?!?! How do you guys even have this as Solved. I’ve done everything other people suggested. But my volume changes still the same. I wish it was 25% like most people. Mine goes all the way to SILENT. Can’t hear nothing ring, no alarms, and when it happened while I’m on the phone is the worse!!. So my days consist of keeping my phone in my hand and looking at it constantly. When I go to sleep I’m screwed. I wish I never updated.

Same thing here but only while connected to Bluetooth device. My problem started when I bought a plantronics Bluetooth and it was only once in a while at first but now constant. iPhone 7 with iOS 13.5.1 tried everything I found in this thread and still the same, volume changes itself to silent while connected to Bluetooth unless I’m actually talking on the device but as soon as I go into standby the volume drops and I miss calls

Mine does too but it’s since update to iOS 13 it has continued. When I make or end a call it I can actually watch a while bar on screen by physical volume buttons go down to silent.

That was my comment earlier in this thread.. Its really a problem. I’m sure it is for everyone. I have a really ill mother’s and I worry about it all the time in case there’s an ER. That’s exactly what happens on my phone. I have an iPhone 11. It still happens on 13.5.1. I’ve been through everything and can’t find out how to fix it.

I have tried everything I can think of. I wish I had an answer for us. I check it constantly. Do you notice that Haptics will also slide down to lower? Mine will so I need to to correct that too. . Sorry about the reference to my original post. You were obviously responding to that!

I just created a completely new thread for us cause this one is labeled as resolved, and we all know it’s not. You should see it in the community. Please comment on it, so it can get their attention. I literally had to turn on the “allow calls from other devices” on my iPad to be able to hear calls. That’s the only way I don’t miss them.

I did that. They are going to try to get you to make a insurance claim for a new phone. How is that fair we have to pay $99 for a new phone for something that isn’t our fault. And considering those of us with this issue who have brand new phones iPhone 11’s, I’m not confident that’s gonna solve anything. Since it’s a update issue, the new phone is gonna have that update. We may have to wait until freaking iOS 14 in September. 🤬

I have a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD LTZ. My ringer volume also lowers when connecting to Bluetooth. I turn off volume change with buttons. Still did not help. I had it back to the dealer two weeks ago, they could not correct problem. I call GM an they gave me a ticket number. A GM agent called me this week. She told me she never heard of this problem. She would look into it for me an get back to me. I told her to browse the internet. People have been complaining al

this problem since 2019. It’s about time Apple and GM get together an fix the problem. Instead of blaming each other. I will get back to the Apple discussion if I receive an answer from GM.

Unfortunately LaraCroft_NYC... the fixes suggested (Turn off "Change with buttons" ("ringer and alerts") does not work for 95% of the users reporting the same issue within this thread. there were other suggestions as well within the 15 pages of this thread that also failed...

glad it worked for you... majority still remain "broken" with sound issues on what is deemed a 'fantastic' phone!

October 2019 to now... STILL no resolution Apple???

Dear users,

the ring tone on my iPhone X also goes down sometimes when connected to our car via bluetooth. I had contact with Apple Germany. They asked me to send analyse and diagnose files to them. I did this 3 times. They reviewed them and called me. The man from apple said: This problem is already known and listed as in progress. I told him that it is already 10 months knows and unfixed by now and that I do not expect this to be in propgress. I told him I have to delete the bluetooth connection with our car and use the cable connection instead.

Another bug that is "in progress": have at least 30 videos of each about one minute on your iPhone. Select videos. Start the first and let it play as slide show. After about 15 oder 20 videos the foto app freezes. This bug is known for more than two years and also listed as "in progress".

I told the man from apple on the phone, that I will not buy any more apple product until these two bugs are fixed.

Apples is making it real easy for me to save a lot of money not buying their products any more.
