My iPhone 11 disconnects from WiFi while using FaceTime (video)

While FaceTiming using my new AT&T iPhone 11, the phone disconnects from my home WiFi during the FaceTime, then reconnect as soon as I end the FaceTime. All software is up to date as of this posting.

I am also having this issue. I call my wife and kids every morning and I’m on Wi-Fi or standing next to a Wi-Fi access point and it won’t show connection to Wi-Fi during the call and the picture is very choppy (my wife is also on Wi-Fi (very strong Wi-Fi at home)) this is a huge problem and needs to be fixed. Are you “APPLE” seeing this issue in testing?? Please help us.

Same Problem here in Italy.

Iphone 11 Pro Max, with iOS 13.3.1 (But also with 13.3 the same)

During every FaceTime call, which started on a Gigabit and very solid WI-FI, connection keeps switching between WI-FI and Cellular ( 4G or LTE ).

Whatever advice from Genius in Apple Stores (reset connection or initialise the phone etc.) didn't help to get RID OF this very annoying problem.

Apple doesn't seem to be helpful.

OK so before I start explaining the fix. Let me first start by saying that I followed all and any solutions that was out on the web in terms of turn off this setting and turn this on and log in/out of this and etc. Nothing worked!!!! So I was able to finally get a really good expert person at Apple with 11+ years experience. This issue is related to anyone that may have done a transfer from iPhone to iPhone. The issue is that when backed up its pulling in corruption and causing the FaceTime to work properly. Good news / bad news is: Good news, there is a fix. The fix is to reset your phone and wipe the phone completely. When you restart the phone install as a new setup and not from a backup. The bad news is that you have to set it up as a new clean install and will need to re-download most of your apps. There are some apps that are standard that will pull just simply from cloud and things like your contact list and etc. I tested FaceTime on new install and it worked without any issues. It sucks because I have a lot backed up and now I had to reinstall a lot of my old apps and settings but it will ensure you have a clean backup moving forward and not a corrupt. Let me know how it goes for those that have had the same issue with FaceTime like I did (where wifi would drop as soon as it connected).

I have an iPhone 11 Pro (updated to IOS 13.3.1) and it does the same thing when my fiancé and I are on a FaceTime audio call. For a couple of minutes I’ll be connected to wifi but then it drops to my 4G, which results in the call eventually dropping. It’s so frustrating because my fiancé is in the military and I would like to talk to him without having the stress of the call potentially dropping.

I exchanged my phone at Apple and payed 288 Euro and it still drops WiFi signal during FaceTime calls and switches to LTE ( 4G ) and don’t hear other person on other side and then it comes back again. Very annoying. Pls Apple address this problem and bring a fix fast as even the new iPhone 11’s are doing the same since the IOS 13.

I had the identic same issue and performed every imaginable fix. The problem is the new iphone software only works on 5Ghz; therefore, the fix is to disable 2.4Ghz on the WiFi router. Very simple to do. (For AT&T customers) Go to http://192.168.1.254/cgi-bin/home.ha and login with your credentials; go to Broadband; then under that go to wifi; you may need your router access code printed on the router; then advanced options; click disable on the 2.4Ghz; scroll to the bottom and click save. That‘s it.

Hope this helps.

This didn’t work either. I just disabled the Wi-Fi assist option and it went back to LTE.

My experience on this issue is that it will disconnect from Wi-Fi and will reconnect automatically within the same call after a couple of seconds. This is annoying, and if I don’t have good LTE signal, the call will drop completely.

The only “solution” so far that has worked is by disabling completely the cellular data while on the call but this is not a solution, this is a work-around and Apple should find the root cause for the issue and fix it.

The same thing is happening to me. When I use FaceTime audio or video it always goes on my LTE then it can go back and forth a few times but it’s so annoying! I am always worrying about my data and I shouldn’t have to be checking my wifi all the time. I’ve tested my wifi connection and it’s totally fine and it always stays on for anything else! I’m really tired of this... not sure I’ll get another iphone after this one....

WiFi disconnects on iPhone and can not be reconnected. Disconnection from WiFi occurs even if you stand next to the AP.

This is a genuine issue especially for users who have poor 3G/4G connection relying on Wi-Fi to FaceTime Video/Audio.

Come on Apple sort this out, who cares if Bluetooth is on or off, we have done our part and reported it so now it’s your turn to test this bug in a lab and issue a fix.
