My iPhone 11 disconnects from WiFi while using FaceTime (video)

While FaceTiming using my new AT&T iPhone 11, the phone disconnects from my home WiFi during the FaceTime, then reconnect as soon as I end the FaceTime. All software is up to date as of this posting.

I am also having this issue. I call my wife and kids every morning and I’m on Wi-Fi or standing next to a Wi-Fi access point and it won’t show connection to Wi-Fi during the call and the picture is very choppy (my wife is also on Wi-Fi (very strong Wi-Fi at home)) this is a huge problem and needs to be fixed. Are you “APPLE” seeing this issue in testing?? Please help us.

Has anyone else tried this solution mentioned above? Both I and my son we’re having this problem and we have different iPhones. I can’t remember if this was the solution that worked or if it was some other solution I got off a different website, but I Fixit on both of our phones. I keep getting messages about people having this problem so I thought I would at least point out that the solution copied and pasted below might be one that people missed:

”toggle (off and back on again) the ‘Set Automatically’ switch in Settings > General > Date & Time.

I will do a search on the net and see if it jogs my memory on another method I might have tried, but whatever it was worked and has been solid for months. which makes it even worse that Apple hasn’t responded with it.

I have same issue on IOS 14. I always thought this might be dodgy Wi-fi at home but don’t have any other issues with Wi-fi dropping, just when I start a FaceTime call. I only just found this thread.

sounds like loads of people are having this issue and it’s been going on for years and Apple haven’t done a thing. A dreadful bug that should be fixed. And don’t tell me to reset network settings, that does nothing.

with iOS 14 I am experiencing still the same problem.

I thought also it was a problem of my wifi connection, but definitely not true: I changed the AP at home and I tried also in the office. Always the same issue, so clearly a problem of iOS.

It is even more annoying when I call some old device (like iPhone 5), with which the call drops after going to 4G and trying to reconnect...

Unbelievable that the issue is still around.

What I'm finding with this and my examples is either select hardware has different components than others, or that the device itself or your Apple ID is storing something that is reporting bandwidth incorrectly. I no longer have access to the other phone that was acting up in my house but again If I called it my phone would stay on Wifi and be fine, however if the problematic phone called me I would exhibit the drop to cellular data off of Wifi.

If anyone has AppleCare on their devices, I feel like those exhibiting the issue should start a case with Apple and get a senior advisor to walk though the problem. The more people who report it may come to find the underlying issue.

If you don't have that issue, then I would suggest using the apple FEEDBACK pages and reporting the issue as posing to this forum isn't going to fully get the attention of apple alone. Only AppleCare or an Apple case if still under warranty may get the attention only. FEEDBACK if enough reports may catch their eye for resolution but is not guaranteed.

The only thing FORUM user can do is suggest findings and work arounds like the time zones and such which is not guaranteed to work for everyone.

That is why I'm saying its either Apple ID related and something that needs to be changed, or hardware specific that they may know of for tracking the issue for complete resolution.

Most of the time I lose my Facetime soon after starting the call. On a "good day" works like a charm!

I added virtual network and that worked for one week. Now it cuts every call off shortly after it connects.

Tried everything suggested even a new I Phone 11, new SIMs card, consultation with Apple and Sprint.

Frustrating cannot use this service. Does not work on my I Pad either. Help!

I had this issue with my iPhone 8 Plus. I then upgraded to iPhone 11 Pro Max and I’m still having the issue as recently as 10 minutes ago. I also upgraded my WiFi recently as I thought that was the issue but I can only conclude that it’s my phone, and maybe something in the backup that ported from my old phone to my new one. Come on Apple, fix this!

This issue is still happening on iOS 14.2. I've done everything you can think of -- upgrade in home wifi speed to gigibit, reset network/phone/router/ONT, turn off/on wifi calling/cellular data for FaceTime. Called Apple, they say everything is fine. Based on the number of issues reported here, it's definitely a pervasive issue and needs to be resolved.

I 've been experiencing the exact same problem and up until today, always thought it was my ISP or WIFI.

When I try FaceTime on my WiFi, it works for about 10-15 min, then the video stops and eventually the call is dropped.

Today, I turned WiFi off, and had a nice long (2.5 hour) FaceTime call using only LTE cellular data.

I'm using an iPhone 7Plus 256GB running the latest at the time I write this 14.3 iOS.

I actually called my ISP to see if they could give me advice, they found this on-going thread in Apple Support.

On-going is NOT good Apple -- this has been a bug now since 2019 -- it's 2021 now!

I've been thinking of going Android for a while -- Siri's intelligence hasn't been updated EVER -- Homekit has the least amount of smart home tech -- iPhone's aren't innovative or exciting anymore -- just more expensive.

My first iPhone was the then top-of-the-line iPhone 4, and it cost a $300 without a monthly plan. Now, you want the latest top-of-the-line iPhone you'll easily spend over $1,200!

I know, Apple is targeting the upper-well-to-do-filthy-stinkin'-rich. They want to be an exclusive, pricy brand.

Fine. Go after those with deep pockets lined with gold.

But be warned Apple, it is one thing to design your products to smell like money. However, all smells blow away in the wind -- especially when that wind is tainted -- cheapened even -- by hardware and/or software bugs that don't get resolved YEARS -- if ever -- and by ever I mean never?

Seriously Apple, I've been a loyal Apple customer for YEARS.

But as I watch Google, Samsung and LG continue to innovate, and more importantly, to introduce products that are more functional, more reliable and cost a LOT less than yours, I'm thinking this is the end of the line for me and Apple.

And I'm not alone. Just look at how many Apple customers have clicked the I have the same problem on this thread. (As I write this it's not in the tens, or hundreds, its in the THOUSANDS.

Sad.

Pathetic.

Hey Google, look out -- here I come.
