Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

I just want to make some points for Apple to understand how deeply frustrating this problem is for all of us:

  • For each time I plug in my earbuds to prepare for a call, music starts up
  • Upsettingly, sometimes this happens just as I'm about to dial a number
  • Car use is the worst, driving down the road, getting ready to make a call is a terrible distraction
  • Keep in mind, this is a SAFETY issue too (that's why I'm using earbuds)
  • Yes, it is a SAFETY problem
  • Only times I plug in earbuds will be to make calls or listen to music, admittedly
  • Understandably, we all recognize the problem, Apple, why can't you?
  • All of the time, this is how frequently it happens - ALL OF THE TIME
  • Possibly this is a convenience feature, but it is really an "inconvenience" issue too!
  • Please fix this APPLE!
  • Let's all make as much noise as we can about this!
  • Ending this problem would make me very happy

That's all I have to say in making my points. Does everyone get these points?

I don’t have a solution to this problem, but it is horrible every time I get in the car it turns on. It can also interrupt other music apps like Spotify and YouTube. I keep seeing online to delete the music app to make it happen, but I have a couple albums I do like to listen to on there. Apple needs to fix this, or I have no choice but to delete Apple Music.

This has happened since I got the iPad Air 2, but it is happening almost all the time. I do use it for music, but I guess I will need to remove the app entirely. Now the music is occasionally playing speeded up. This is just not acceptable that Apple has not seen fit to fix this problem that effects so many. All I can figure is that they don’t support fixing this because they consider the users as unimportant and their support of the product as already obsolete so it’s more important to work on the next new thing.

FAIL! I tried ALL of the recommendations already. It still Autoplays. I don’t even HAVE Apple Music on my iPad. I have Pandora, which doesn’t have autoplay, but the music still Autoplays. Who the **** thinks that firing up my Playlist every single time I plug in headphones (with no off switch) is a good idea? There are hundreds of complaints about this “feature” on line, and no good answers....

I ran into the same problem. After I connected my iPhone12 Pro Max with the version of 14.2.1 to Bluetooth, whether it is the car or the Bluetooth headset, for example after playing a Foxnews audio for some minutes with iPhone 12's bluetooth, Apple's music App will jump out and occured in the widget automatically, then interrupt my original Foxnews audio. Feel very bad. I think it is a bug.

I communicated this problem with Apple's customer service, and I feel that the customer service is still very unmodest. To ask me to collect logs, I rejected the request. I told them that I have saw the discussing it on Apple's own website for more than a year. And the bug reproduction isn’t a necessary job for Apple to go to the laboratory? Faint

There are actually 2 new settings ..One is stream music using cellular and cellular data..

I found out about cellular data is one reason the APP is auto playing and when Shooting with cust I tried with both enabled.. and I ended call and called back ..and the music auto played.. but when Both are disabled ..it will not auto play.

try and see what happens

I asked this question today and was given these instructions. It fixed the issue that has been driving me nuts for weeks!

1 Start the Settings app.

2 Tap "Accessibility."

3 Tap "Motion."

4 On the Motion page, turn off "Auto-Play Video Previews" by swiping the button to the left.

5 Start the Settings app.

6 Tap "iTunes & App Store."

7 Tap "Video Autoplay."

8 Tap "Off."

Hi,

Post again after a few days when it may well start up on it's own again. It is still a problem. I just finally deleted itunes, and now only have it on my laptop. I will not install it again since there is no expectation that it will not start playing on it's own at inopportune moments. Not sure why video previews would make any difference with music, but I'm willing to believe it might.

I am not using bluetooth, so this doesn't refer to my problem. The issue remains that the app would run by itself even while I was using other applications. I know it may be so that people can listen to music from other applications, but it shouldn't take over the sound of other applications. The only way I could find around this PROBLEM - was to delete the app. So the appletunes is no longer on my phone. Not what I would choose but it was the only way to keep my music from playing on it's own no matter what other application (or sound) I was running.

Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?
