iOS 13.1.2 - Email not being marked as read when I read it

Hi, had this problem with every version of iOS 13 to the [current] 13.1.2.

When I select an unread email, it goes into the email and doesn't mark it as read.

Also, if I press the delete button on an email the email 'swooshes' off the screen and the same email is presented to me underneath, without it being deleted.

Just putting it on here so Apple have more awareness of the problem (yes, Apple staff do 'watch' the discussions).

Try going in to your outlook or office 365 account from a computer web browser and removing all mobile devices. Do this by opening outlook online then settings >all settings >General > mobile devices. Then remove the account from your phone through the passwords and accounts. Finally, add the account back. It seems the upgrade to ios13 creates another iPhone activesync object within the office 365 account. Once the objects are removed and only one is created again, it works fine.

This seemed to work for me so far.

I’m not overly familiar with Gmail configuration, but I know gmail has device management capability and there is a way to remove old device accounts.

Not "solved", only delayed.

This will never be fixed in iOS 13 with iOS 14 being about a month away. If this were ever to be fixed it would be there... or not, as we've seen in previous versions forever now. We might as well start gearing up to start a new "iOS 14.0.0 - Email not being marked as read when I read it" thread, and put all of our efforts there.

I have the same problem that although I have “read” my email, it still registers with the blue dot 🔵, as unread. Many times when sending an email, it states it cannot send. When I go to settings I turn off the email then wait a few seconds, turn it back on and it sends my email. Apparently Apple still has the same quirks in the email app as it always did. This is my second iPad, it’s an Air 2, and I’m completely up to date in my software. AOL is my email provider.

I have completely removed, and reinstalled both the app and my AOL account and that still, same problems. Please advise if you have the solution, and hopefully Apple is looking at these comments.

There are over 1 billion iPhones in use, most of them with iCloud mail. If this affected even a tiny minority of them you would see thousands of posts about it. Yet the actual number of people reporting it is vanishingly small. So out of 1 billion users a few hundred experience it. That means it is NOT an implementation issue; it is much more likely a connectivity issue on the phones that have the problem.
