iOS 13.1.2 - Email not being marked as read when I read it

Having the same issue even though I’m using Hotmail, and not Gmail, on my Outlook. It’s annoying because I have to load every email twice to have it marked as read, or to have it deleted, or to have it moved.

I opened a ticket with Apple since the problem returned for me. I have a call scheduled for tomorrow morning with an Apple engineer. I’ll see what they have to say. Hopefully I can get an official bug reported.

I’m still having this problem after the iOS 13.2 update. I have deleted My Gmail account and reinstalled it and it still happening. It’s very aggravating. Does anyone have any successful workarounds? How hard can it be for Apple to fix this!?!

I tried resetting my network settings like other posters and sad. It doesn’t seem to of made any difference. Now I have to enter all my Wi-Fi passwords again. So more time wasted… This is so disappointing.

Same here. So frustrating. Does not mark as read unless I go into the message 2 times. Does not include body of precious message. When forwarding a message no swoosh to indicate it was sent. Reset phone 3 times. Reset network settings 5 times. Nothing seems to fix it permanently. Apple is so frustrating.

Come on Apple. Fix this email problem. Emails are not marked read when read, have to read them twice. Often replies are duplicated in the sent folder as well. This has been going on - on and off - since your launched IOS 13.

Disagree. It only means that people are not complaining *here* about it. Judging how widespread a problem is by the number of people talking about it in this forum is not an accurate measurement.

A certain percentage of people may be calling in to Apple Support, some may be going into the Apple Store or their telecom retailer, and many more may just be living with it.

I’ve already left my feedback to Apple via the Feedback section.

I manage a software engineering team. I know their challenges. We are not naive.

And if an Apple engineer is reading this and wants me to “offer up” my device for weeks, they can have it. I have alternatives.

They need to get on this problem and fix it.

I think you inadvertently made my case: "Judging how widespread a problem is by the number of people talking about it here is not accurate." You're right that other users are likely not complaining about it here, but my point is that just because there's a bunch of people here talking about it doesn't mean it's widespread. The truth is that the issue is not 100% reproducible. That's a fact. If it were, it would be an easy fix. Any issue that is anything less than 100% reproducible is going to be more difficult to resolve. So, it's not clear what you "Disagree." with. My comments were directly in response to Skytenshi's statement: "Bah ... why is it so hard for Apple to fix this bug."

I disagree with your opening sentence: “It's so hard for Apple to fix this bug because, frankly, not as many people are having this issue as it seems.” Later in your posting, you seem to walk this statement back.

The majority of software errors are not 100% reproducible. This is a fact of software development.

I expect Apple to have the expertise to seek out these problems and resolve them. That’s why we pay a premium for their products.

It’s a known problem and Apple needs to fix it. Period.

This is happening to me on the native mail app using Hotmail.

deleting doesn’t sometime delete either.

(OFF TOPIC: This also now also happens with Facebook notifications not being unflagged after reading them).

Binkydoormat, thanks for pointing out this issue. I took a look at my sent box after seeing your post and OMG, every email that I sent now appears twice in my sent box! Fortunately, this doesn’t bother me as much as having to move/delete/read every email in my inbox twice.

I am using Hotmail on the mail app that comes with the iPhone.

Having this issue too. I'm using Exchange and have to open email twice to get it to mark as unread. And my sent always show two duplicate emails. Don't mind the duplicate sent so much but the opening twice is incredibly irritating.

Oh and there is a new related issue for me now too. When emails are downloaded the app icon gets the badge to show how many new emails I have but when in open the inbox the new emails are not there and i have to refresh it for them to be downloaded. It’s quite annoying. Is Apple doing anything about this stuff?

1) I use Outlook Microsoft Exhange on MacBook Pro with Outlook Mac desktop software. I have WebMail access via Ionos.

2) Emails that I READ on MacBook Pro aren't marked as READ on iPhone X iOS 13.1.3
