iPhone not ringing after iOS 13 update

Since updating to iOS 13, my phone (iPhone XS) is sitting right in front of me on my desk and when someone calls, the phone doesn't ring or make a sound. It appears to happen when the phone is plugged in by cable to my MacBook Pro. I'm currently running iOS 13.1.2.

Any suggestions?

Yah, checked all those things. It is weird in that it only seems to happen on occasion, but when it does, I can sit there and see the VM come up without the phone even ringing or any indication that anyone was trying to call.

I have also had the problem with no ring for audio calls. Missed quite a few.

i also noticed there was no vibration- which I have on, whether the silent switch is on or off.

and then tonight, I was holding my phone and answered 2 calls and couldn’t hear, and could not be heard.

did 6 test calls. Tried Speaker phone, Bluetooth headsets. Absolutely no audio coming through.

Rebooted, and now it’s working again, but this is a serious issue, since it’s unknown what causes it, or how to tell it’s happening until you get a call you can’t hear or speak with.

So, reboot your phone if it’s happening, and report it to Apple.

Reboot and test. I don’t know when my problem started, but it basically escalated from just not getting notifications, to no audio whatsoever.

the music app worked fine, all other audio was fine, just phone calls weren’t passing audio in either direction. .

it was fine after powering off and then powering on.

i am hoping that the problem does not return, but if it does:

a) I know a reboot should fix it

b) it’s obvious there is a bug in the software

How do you add the flashing light? I have the same issue.

One thing, I turned on "Silence Unknown Callers" which I thought means if the caller id says "unknown" then it will block it . That is a feature I've been waiting for / sending Apple feedback for since iOS 3!

I wonder if it actually means that it will block any caller that isn't in my contacts. That would not be the feature I was looking for. Some people might want it, though.

Mine has been working fine for 19 hours now.

If yours has reverted back to no ring/notification... double-check you don't have Do Not Disturb on, and again, notify Apple.

The alternative is to backup the phone, reinstall the iOS, use as a "new phone" for a day or so, and see if the problem persists. if it doesn't, then restore your backup and keep checking settings.

If it does, then it's obviously an iOS bug

Did the update. My phone will not ring nor will it ding for text messages. Ringer is on. Do not disturb is off. Allow calls for everyone on. Volume up. Turned off and on 652 times. Only thing I haven’t tried is smashing it with a hammer. I have to wear my watch 24/7 in order to not miss an incoming call. Apple, fix this ASAP please. Some of us work for a living and need to be able to know when we are receiving calls.

So, I contacted Support this morning. If you turned off and on, and still don't get notifications, try the following:

Settings> General> Reset> Reset Network Settings.

This means that all wifi and other connection passwords will need to be re-entered, but its what the support rep asked me to do.

After all that, back up and reboot again and see if things are working.

If not, I hope there is an Apple store close by that you can take it to.

My iPhone 6S Ringer volume auto resets itself to the lowest volume setting each time I open/close the Phone app (to place a call or receive a call). Resetting the Ringer volume using the volume side buttons or the slider in Settings/Sound has no lasting affect once I close the Phone app and then reopen it - the Ringer volume will once again be set to the lowest setting. This has remained consistent behavior since upgrading to IOS 13.0, 13.1 and 13.1.2. Very aggravating, missing calls daily because I can't hear the ringer.

I’ve had the same problem since the update was done a few days ago. Yesterday Apple support had me restore from backup, which didn’t work also restore my iPhone to factory settings, which did not work either. I checked the volumes in the do not disturb and all is OK just know ringtones or text tones so I am missing texts and phone calls. I’m wondering if since after you do the restore that it still loads iOS 13.1.2 and that is the problem.

anyone know an influential blogger/reporter to catch Apple's attention? I didn't realize that so many folks were having the same problem I was having. For me it is random so I have not been able to track down a root cause. The whole "reset your phone" and "reboot your phone" suggestions simple are not helpful to those of us that are struggling.

I have chatted with a Support tech this morning and linked this thread to them. Someone else said they actually spoke with a tech and they were completely unaware of the issue.

Now while most of you are reporting that you are just not getting notifications, I was not having audio in calls. Period. It was probably weeks of not getting notifications (since 13.0 hit ) before I knew that there was a problem. I just thought I didn't feel the phone vibrate.

But then I was getting calls with no one on the other end - or so I thought. Most were numbers I didn't recognize, so I thought it was a robo dial that was taking too long to recognize someone picked up. But then my friend calls, and there was nothing on the line. She called again- same thing. I called her, same thing still.

So I tested from my MagicJack and there was no audio at all with 6 calls tested. Rebooted, and everything is working again.

I test every morning to verify I am getting notified of calls, and so far, everything is still good, but some of you haven't had the success I have with rebooting.

Find the link I posted earlier for feedback and make sure that you note this thread.
