After installing Catalina, it asks me to update my Apple ID settings. I put in my password, and then it asks for my Mac password, which I give it. Then after a few minutes the message pops back up again. Happens on both my Macbook and iMac.
Logging in and out didn't help on my MacBook, there is too much to delete/re-add for me to want to try it on my iMac.

Hi Michael! This was the solution to my problem!
If this is the case, then the UX of this process needs improvement, obviously. How many people would think to look at the status of their iCloud Keychain when faced with this behaviour? The way it currently works causes you to think something has broken or at the very least is not working (eg: iCloud is too busy, etc).

Have you tried signing out of your Apple ID, then signing back in. That's what worked for me on both of my Macs and seems to have worked for several other. people in this thread.

I did that many times. Failed every time and still getting nagging prompts. I checked keychain access and for some reason it keeps unchecking everyday.
Same problem here, since Catalina (updated version)

I had the same problem and went through the steps of the keychain mentioned above but this was the solution for me. I had to re-set my Apple ID password and then it worked.
I can't believe Apple hasn't addresses this issue yet, not even with .1 update.... embarrassing.
Same problem for me and already changed my password to a strong one and did the Keychain business two dozen times at least... nothing works. Wondering when Apple is going to address this?
None of the solutions solved the issue. The iCloud keeps unchecking keychain access every midnight.

I have the same issue, if I shutdown the iMac and leave it for a few hours it reloads fine but then the issue comes back
That would not work if you had purchases and subscriptions tied to your original ID. I would say that is an absolute last resort
