Photo's stuck on Catalina?

Installed Catalina on a 2018 Macbook Pro. Ran photos and it has been sitting at :"gathering favorites, detecting duplicates, curating best photos, composing layout, etc." about 30% complete without progress bar moving for the last 30 mins. How long should it take to setup Photo's in Catalina?

Come on Apple. If the curation process is getting hung up on a particular photo please move it to a special folder labeled "Unable to Curate" and be done with it. Waiting days for curation to complete without knowing why the delay is irresponsible on your part.

Hi.

There seems to be no search criteria for the corrupted pictures.

most probably they are caused by an old device, in my casa iPhone 5s.

I have also 82.000 photos and videos. It was no easy decision to start searching one by one. But you have to.

My iMac was on since mid November. It does not seam to sort itself out..

Best of luck!!

Hi.

I remember the exclamation Mark.

I had to find a fast method to search through the 82.000 Photos.

My solution was:

In the Photos app, corner left up, click on the ''Photos'' category.

Middle up, click on the ''All Photos''.

You will see some of your photos in a Thumbnail view.

Scroll up to your FIRST photo in the library.

Double click on the first photo in the library so that it opens wide.

Under this photo, you will see a row of thumbnails of the next photos.

Here you can scroll to the right with the keyboard arrow.

In this row is where you will see the corrupted photos differently than the normal ones, because they will always be the colour GREY (at least for me they were).

If you have good eyes, you can keep the right arrow pressed, and just follow the flow of thumbnails in the bottom row.

This is how i have found all my corrupted photos. They were easy to recognise..., they were all grey.

After I have passed the years 2014-2015 I have checked the ''Curation'' status, and it was complete.

Best of luck !!

That's something I already did and I only have photos, no video. It was stuck at 90% for 3 days, so I recovered the entire library with the "repair tool", then restarted the computer and launched Photo. It went to around 70% in 9 hours and then it stopped progressing for days.. that's where I still am now.

My library is 230gb for 92.000 photos.

This is a long thread and I've been working on this problem since Oct 10 ... so to your point, yes, I have been involved in this thread and read updates as they arrive in my mailbox. Each post I've read seems to address your curation issue.

Can you point me toward the iOS problem solution? Wouldn't that have been easier than the nasty reply? 15 page thread with 225 replies. Are your referring to the solution of turning my computer off then on? Was looking for a little more than that

Hi

“Give it a search..“ is in no way a nasty reply :)

In my quest, searching through all the replys to find what I wanted is exactly what I‘ve done.

„Perpetual downloading of newly shot iOS original sized files from iCloud „ - is this thing a Mac or iOS problem?

Where does this Perpetual downloading happen? On your Mac or on your phone?

If it is on the Mac, than search through the posts, the answer is there. Am I suppoed to search and link it back for you? That is why I wrote „Give it a search..“

If it is an iOS problem, than I do not have any solution for you, as I do not recall anybody bringing this matter on the thread.

Have a very productive week!!

The solution for originals in the cloud being stuck downloading in original format to a Mac from the cloud is not in this thread. Smug DRPV thinks otherwise. Perhaps it's written in an invisible UV font that only he sees when he shines a blacklight on it.

Facts: There is acknowledgement from Apple engineers (whom I have an open case with) that this is a problem with no known solution.

Facts: I've worked on this problem with them for 3 months

Facts: Creating a new library, logging in/out of icloud on devices, removing AVI/DNG files, turning computer off/on (laziest advice ever), rebuilding libraries, etc are not current solutions.

For anyone jumping in on the tail end of this chain, if you are wondering if your problem is the problem being described in this thread, here is a rough outline of the discussion when you enter hoping that our problem with Photos being "Stuck" is the same as your problem being "Stuck"

85% of posts are related to a lengthy curation process.

10% of posts are related to a lengthy upload process

4% misc

1% related to "Downloading Originals" to your Mac progress bar being stuck

The 1% is described below:

1) Everything goes up to cloud ok from ios devices.

2) Originals are stuck downloading to your mac from cloud

drpv solution "Search one more time through your Photos the way I have described it in a post above.

It will finish in a few minutes." may have worked for him but not for me. I did what suggested, I have a very good sight, I went carefully through all my library scrolling with the arrow (took me 2 days) and found no damaged photos with grey or white thumbnail. I am still stuck at "Analyzing bla bla bla".

Hi

I am really sorry for my disrespectful comments to your posts. Please accept my apologies.

You are right, the ''originals in the cloud being stuck downloading in original format to a Mac from the cloud'' does not have a solution in this thread.

As I have answered you, I was referring to this type of iCloud problem: ''I found that, for me, what solved the issue of Photos being "stuck" and not uploading from iCloud was turning off my iCloud account and then turning it back on.'' covered by Liverpool Webmaster on pages 8 10 11 13, MutantSquid on pages 6 7, cathmce on page 9.

I have misread your comments, and I have thought that the right solution for you was already covered by the 3 users listed above. Hence, me suggesting that you should read the earlier posts.

I hope it will be resolved soon.

Best of luck !

Hi.

did you also searched for missing Metadata like „ISO“ and „Camera model“?

My first search was for these 2 missing infos from the Photos. After deleting the corrupted Photos, the Curation was still going.

Then I started to search manually for them, and I have found a few that were taken withe an old iPhone. After deletion, the Curation was complete.

If you say that you have checked all your photos and still nothing.., I don‘t know ehat solution could that be.

There was a working solution in an other thread, that said one should add permissions to the external drive where the Library is saved, for „Administrators“, apply that first to all the contents of the drive, than do a restart.

I will post a link to that thread later.

Hi, I didn't search for missing metadata however I started my library in 2002 when the first iPhoto was launched, I wouldn't be surprised if there are many old photos from 20 years ago without metadata but that shouldn't be a major problem (as long as those data are not corrupted). Also I am not using an external drive, my library is in my system's "pictures folder".

I have the same problem. 32000 photos + 300 video on external HD. Never faced problems in the past. After 3 weeks the process was completed yesterday but none of the suggestions in the forum produced positive results. Today I connected my Ipad for Sync and once more problem and the process restarted. Slow as before. Stuck and only 300 photos scanned as people in one day. What is even more frustrating that all the picture on the ipad disappeared. What to say: I always decided to use apple because of quality. It seems they do not care as in the past to the quality. What is happening to me, to the friends in the forum and probably to many others in umbelievable and not acceptable.
