I was speaking to someone on the phone he was on speaker and all of a sudden, this loud cracking sound started, lasted about 15 seconds, only I heard not the caller, it was horrible. This phone was too expensive to have an issue like this, Apple can you hear me......very concerned.

I have experienced this issue as well while using my new iPhone 11 with Bluetooth connection in my car. It's a horrible high-pitched screeching sound that the person on the other end cannot hear (they say it just goes silent), but it's ear drum painful on my end. Interestingly this does NOT happen with my other cell phone, an iPhone 6S.

Apple, what is the fix to this issue?

I have had this problem since the day I bought my iPhone 11 Pro. It’s ridiculous that this is even a thing on a phone that I paid over $1,200 dollars for.

I have sound feedback every time I use FaceTime and most times that I use the speaker phone. It sounds like my voice getting feed back, only lower pitch and more mechanical.

It seems to happen less if I rotate the phone and turn the volume down about halfway. It seems to get worse if the bottom phone speaker gets covered by my finger or phone holder.

I also have had this problem from when I first got mine. iPhone 11pro max. I came here to report it in October. Unfortunately it comes and goes, exactly like you said...yes the cost of this, I never would have thought this would happen. I use to have an iPhone 8 Plus and never had this. I have heard it is hardware, then heard it was software, then heard it was the case...I got mine and put a screen protector on top and in a case, been like this since day one, and problem still comes and goes. Really baffled, and frustrated when it happens. All I do is hang up with my call and call back and it is gone.

I experienced the exact same issues back in december. After having to send my phone in and weeks of waiting I got it back with a note saying that none of the issues I experienced could be found but that the system analysis may have already solved the problem. Till now I have not yet experienced any crackling or echoes on speaker calls. Even though this is just ridiculous and sending phones in is an annoyance maybe it could help some of you since apple seems to completely ignore that something is clearly faulty.

I just got my iPhone 11 Pro Max 2 days ago and when I’m watching a video, playing a game or listening to music there’s a good crackling coming from the back beside the camera, it definitely sounds like a speaker ready to blow. I plan on taking it back to the provider in hopes that the issue isn’t present. This is ridiculous how many people are having this same issue. I haven’t switched my SIM card to my new phone yet as I’m waiting for a screen protector for it ( so the plastic is still on the screen lol ) so I don’t know if it does this during calls or not.

In addition to my comment. I tried turning down the right ( top ) speaker and it has helped significantly BUT it’s still somewhat crackling. Not sure if it’s worth replacing or not? I still can get a free swap so maybe I should....

UPDATE - I closed all apps and reopened them and tried it again with that speaker turned down. The crackling is back with full force so it’s not working. I think I’ll return the phone.

SAME ISSUE!!

I noticed it from way back when I bought the iPhone 11 from the US and always thought that this was caused by dust and debris. Up until one day, I was in a car with my friends and decided to play a song on my phone because it was the newest and most expensive one between all of them. The speakers (front and main) were so terrible because of the crackling noise to a point were we could barely hear the song. I felt ASHAMED of having the phone with the highest price tag and the most powerful speaker present but still end up with sound that is worse than a 5$ Chinese speaker!!!

And what’s really frustrating is that till now, Apple hasn’t officially addressed the issue even though 400 people (only in this discussion) are experiencing this problem and

that a considerable number of people went to the Apple stores and notified Apple employees about it!!

Thank you! I did the same as you, left on the protective screen cover until my new one comes. Had distortion every time I played a movie, when I received a txt etc. Tried everything to get rid of it, including a reset and was going to return it today. Read your comment and removed the plastic film, it worked!!! So glad I saw your comment, I was so disappointed with my phone.

I just got the 11 Pro Max the other day. Upgraded from a 6s (although it doesn’t really feel much like an ‘upgrade’)

The first night I had it I was loading all my media, etc on it and played a video I took and noticed on half volume it sounded like a blown speaker on the top speaker. I could also feel quite a bit of air being pumped out by that speaker. Bottom speaker sounded fine. I didn’t have a case on it but did still have the plastic protector on it. Next morning called Apple to return it. For the insanely high price tag, it’s unacceptable. That day my case came in the mail. Put it on and noticed the distortion seemed to have gone away. I thought maybe the upper speaker has a higher output volume to make it through the case since the case covers the upper speaker but has a cut out for the bottom. Also did a system update. Read this thread and took my plastic off the screen. It seems to just come and go with no real reason I can pin down. I’m not even messing around with an exchange. Aside from the new camera (which is amazing) the difference between my 6s and the 11 Pro Max is difficult to notice aside from the (too) giant screen. If I had to pick one it’s the 6s. At least it has a dedicated headphone jack. Great idea! Take away functionality and call it an upgrade...and what’s with Apple not even responding to 500+ people here? I’m truly amazed as a long time Apple fan. No longer. My next phone will not be an Apple. That’s for sure. I’m using my 6s now to write this. That thing called the 11 Pro Max just makes me frustrated and angry with Apple. And I’ve been using Apple exclusively since 1994. I was even the head graphic artist for MacTech magazine. I can’t stay loyal to a company that just cares about money, not customers.

I have had the exact same issue from the moment I got my phone. I have an iPhone 11 Pro and use FaceTime extensively on a daily basis due to a long distance relationship. The crackling and the echo are only when I speak for the most part, but once they start there is no way to stop them. I have tried taking off my case, lowering the volume, flipping my phone upside down, and putting it on something soft to absorb sound. I went to the Apple Store three times, and they had no idea what the issue could be since all the audio diagnostics and system diagnostics came back with zero issues each time. I finally resorted to recording it on my Mac as proof, but so far I have been unable to get this fixed. It really is a deal breaker for me if this isn't addressed.

Mine wasn’t because of the plastic still on the phone. The one speaker was literally about to blow on any level. So I returned it and got a new one sent to me a couple days later and it’s fine and I’ve been using it since. So it’s only some of the phones that are doing it. I love my 11 Pro Max now. I have a screen protector and a case on it and it works the way it should be working.

I know this is an old post. But I have this issue on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple do not want to know about the issue as I recently discovered.....

I spoke to what I can only call an idiot. From Apple support. I’m no noob when it comes to technology and I know all the bullshit they will ask me to try “first” such as restarts. Resets. Restores etc. All of which anyone with half a brain would know won’t work.

My phone is 2 months old and I had issues with it straight out the box. It jammed 7 times on the “requesting update” screen during setup. I had to force restart it every time before it finally downloaded the update. I recently contacted Apple about the issues I’m having and according to them (Bare in mind I told them what steps I took to try and resolve it resets blah blah....) the best come back they had was “try restoring the phone from fresh. No backup.

So basically delete all on the phone lose all your data. just to help them avoid dealing with it. If I’d said I’d tried that instead of a full device reset you know they’d instead have said “try a full device reset” normally I have no complaints about Apple but this idiot I spoke to clearly didn’t have a clue but wanted to keep me talking for his commission. I ended up cutting him off I have very little patients for people like that.

it is most definitely a hardware issue. As I found another issue also relating to sound. Using wired headphones with this 11 pro the sound skips every 15 seconds or so. And to back that up even further. My iPhone 7 Plus also had a sound issue that caused the phone to over heat. So much that the phone became unusable and I noticed this too when it was new and again Apple didn’t want to know. The only way I could keep it cool was standing a cooling fan in front of it which is outrageous.

im paying for this 11 so I’m not letting them fob me off this time with more bullshit. Another issue I have is my 11 pro keeps locking itself even when I’m using it. If I get a call and press answer the phone locks before Iv even got it to my ear cutting the call off.

None of these issues are normal and Apple can’t claim otherwise. And they also know none of the crap listed above will work to resolve it. The number of people having these same issues and ME doing a reset will fix it?! I don’t think so. Common sense the phones are faulty. And they shouldn’t be fobbing people off especially with brand new devices.
