OS X Catalina - Dock has disappeared
Just updated to Catalina with my iMac Pro 2017 & the dock has disappeared this morning. It was here last night after the update but nothing today.
It won't show again - anybody experiencing this too ?

Changing the dock settings in System settings did not work for me, but following sure did:
To prevent the Dock from hiding, open Terminal and execute the following command:
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide -bool false; killall Dock
autohide -bool false turns off the autohide. killall Dock kills the current Dock process. It will then automatically restart with the autohide setting off.
Yes, under Mission Control, I see the Dock. But with my Dock supposed at the bottom of my screen with "Automatically hide & show the Dock" clicked, the Dock will 100% not appear at the bottom of my screen. Before I upgraded to Catalina it worked find.
This is precisely what happened to me. Dock was there yesterday after I first updated. But today, after restarting my MacBook it will not appear at the bottom of my screen. I have to go to Mission Control to access it.
I am so sick of my Mac, it used to be lightyears ahead of Microsoft. It is now a complete crock - it gives me nothing but trouble and bugs. Honestly Apple, pull a finger out and get your act together. This is junk software
I would understand your sentiment if you were referring to a non-Beta software deployment. Do you realize this is BETA software. The purpose of BETA is to work out bugs like the ones mentioned in this thread. That is what we are all doing. Then Apple gathers that info and try to fix these things before the official release.
Dock has disappeared, mine as well, settings all good, should be there.
What I really want to know is why I have to spend time to try and find some extra solution to "fix" the basic settings already set on my machine. This is really really poor Apple.
Have had the same problem on my MacBook Pro. Each time I think I've fixed it by fiddling with the dock preferences, it disappears again on the next re-boot. I didn't get this problem on my iMac, but on that I lost my entire music library on upgrade. I'd rather have had the dock problem on both.
This fixed it for me on my MacBook Pro 13" (2015) with or without the external display. But it fixed another Dock problem too, which is that apps were filling the screen behind the Dock even when it is set not to automatically hide and show the Dock. After applying this setting, the apps don't fill behind the Dock.
I've also read that there is an update for this, but it's not showing up for me in System Prefs / Software Update.
This is a pretty obvious bug. I'm surprised it made it into the software release cycle.
Apple is genuinely ******* me off. Just upgraded to catalina a few days ago. Using my dock with relevant apps on the bottom FOR YEARS. Worked perfectly till their OS developers completely ****** it all up and now it's gone. Clicking on self-explanatory controls for Dock in system preferences does nothing. One time it appeared back. I thought it was solved. I restarted the machine just to make sure - now it's gone again. Congrats apple for throwing your quality standards out the window and wasting my time. SMH.
After I posted this issue, update 10.15 was released and it was solved, so I thought. This morning again, the dock has disappeared. I used the terminal command posted below to reset the dock. Has anyone experienced the issue again after execute the terminal dock reset command? Thanks.
Good catch! You are right. My fault. I pasted the wrong command. I have been trying different variations many times since the problems started to occur.
defaults delete com.apple.dock; killall Dock
... does not solve my problem either unfortunately.
I apologies if I have posted in the wrong thread. I do not have a second monitor connected at all. The Dock disappearing is an issue on my iMac without any peripheral displays.
The latest update seems to have resolved the issue. I think it is linked to peripheral devices, I saw several people mention having a second screen (which I do not) and another speaking about a Logitech mouse (which I have). Either way, glad it's fixed.
Judging by the few emails received lately on this subject, the bug may well be fixed, however the problems I had once Catalina was installed I'm staying with Mojave till absolutely sure the disappearing dock and other bugs are fixed.
Yup, none of this works - even show/hide - I only see it when I change its size but as soon as I stop moving the cursor it disappears again.
I know how the Dock works - the Catalina has made it disappear permanently, regardless activation of the show/hide option.
I only see it while in system preferences when I try to change its size.
Sorry for my ill-informed advice. I see you have now sorted the glitch. All the best.
