Mac OS music app equalizer not working

Same here. I would add if I even pause a track the equalizer gets disabled as well. I even lost 500 tracks because they were de-authorized. I would take mega-iTunes back any day.

"Unknown problem"? What a BS thing to say! Is it known now?! it's real and it NEEDS TO BE FIXED!

Really appreciate the helpful workarounds that have been posted.

Hopefully there will be a global update fix as none of the workarounds fix the problem for apple music files.

If song preset = Equalizer set to "none" then use "main equalizer"

March 15 and still not working !

It's very a horrible experience to listen music without the equalization. Every time i play a song, have to activate-deactivate the ecaualizatior control yo hear decently. Apple, please do something with this bug!!!!!

I generate an EQ i like, select my entire library, put the prest EQ, and still doesn't work

In some songs, took the preset, but in others, no!!!!

It is very annoying that the equalizer does not work properly. If Apple does not solve this quickly, I will cancel the applemusic subscription

I had exactly the same problem updating from Mojave to Catalina. Apple support says it is a profile, config, hardware issue; in other words..my problem. Obviously it is not.

There's no solution yet, not even with the new Catalina update. So annoying.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person having this problem, it's been driving me crazy since the Catalina update. I'm having this problem on 3 different Macs so definitely not some kind of hardware issue. I'm also finding that the play, pause and skip keys work intermittently and require the music app to be completely closed and restarted to get them working again.

I just made the transition to Catalina as well. Using a Mac Air. Having the same EXACT issue. On the new Apple Music program the equalizer isn't working. So frustrating. I'm actually regretting the OS upgrade now....

If I want the equalizer sound enhancement to work, I have to adjust (click on) one of the EQ frequency settings while a track is playing, wait a few seconds, and then the equalizer kicks in. Of course, the equalizer automatically disables before the next track begins.. What gives with that? I was so happy using iTunes and pairing my Mac with bluetooth on my home audio set up. Without the EQ, the sound is flat. There is no dynamic range or separation in the sound. If this is the best Apple can do, at least let us download the last version of iTunes so we can go back to better quality sound..

I appreciate that you've posted a temporary solution, however, I'm having some difficulty following along. Would you mind elaborating? It would be greatly appreciated.
