Not able to share screen after catalina update

Hello,

I just updated to Catalina a couple of days ago and since then I am not able to share my screen using any software including skype or gotomeeting.

My clients are simply not able to view my screen .They are just able to see the top menu.

Anyone else facing the same issue?

Thanks,

Adnan

This is what worked for me. It seems the issue is the way Catalina deals with System Preference > Privacy > Screen Recording.

  1. Open this dialog (it will probably be blank)
  2. Open your app and start a session then attempt to screen share
  3. The app should give you a notice that it needs permissions
  4. The app should show up in the dialog list
  5. Check the box
  6. You will need to restart said app (so do this before a real meeting)

Was able to add; Teams, Skype and Zoom this way.

Catalina Screen sharing does not work for me too, No external application, only the builtin screen sharing of macOS which uses the vnc is giving me a black screen, even though it is connected to the remote and funnily enough moving my cursor on the remote, shows the client cursor is moving too, but on a black screen! None of the solutions on this thread worked for me.

Edit: Using ARDMonitor app on the remote computer I can confirm that the client is indeed has administrator permission to access the remote computer and yet shows black screen.

Well, I'll be ******. After trying all the various suggestions in this and other threads, I discovered that NOT being in full-screen is what made it possible for me to share my screen in Microsoft Teams. Just the opposite of jack's experience.

There was not an application blocking things for me. If I rebooted and started Teams as the first and only application, I got the error about needing the screen-recording privilege (which was already on). I also checked the firewall enable-incoming option, which was on.

This is a real bear of a problem. I wondered why it suddenly appeared; I thought it was some maintenance that was applied. But no; for me it was switching to full-screen mode.

I have the same issue on Mac Catalina, I use Teams for screen sharing sessions and nothing works, this is quite frustrating. Can you please help me know the OS downgrade steps, will they this once if not have to switch to microsoft..I spend most time of my office hours on customer calls with teams and this is stopping me from using MAC for business.

Two suggestions, Danny. Read through this thread, as painful as that is, and try the potential solutions. It appears that this issue has several causes, but it might be as easy as turning off full-screen. If all else fails, I'd suggest finding one of the virtual-machine products like Fusion from VMWare and installing Windows under it. Admittedly this is a huge pain, but I think it is a smaller pain than trying to downgrade your Mac operating system. I run Windows 10 using Fusion and the Teams screen sharing there was not affected by this issue.

And the other side effect is that surely as soon as you invest all that time, Apple or Microsoft will release a bit of maintenance that fixes the problem. So your efforts will help all of us . . .

I encountered this problem also and was initially stuck at the part where zoom is not appearing in the list of apps that request for screen recording permission. Make sure that your zoom is updated and also minimise your windows to check if zoom's permission request dialogs are hidden behind your windows. I have multiple zoom permission request hidden behind windows and not appearing. Once I click on one, the zoom app appear in the list of apps requesting permission.

I guess the quality control at Apple have been going downhill. Every update feel like it bring more problems and no benefits.

Full Disk Access is a new security feature in macOS Mojave that requires some applications to be given full permission to access a user's protected files. In previous versions of macOS, this permission was automatically given to all applications at the time of installation. If a user chooses not to give Full Disk Access, some data on the Mac will not be accessible.

You may as well check it under this settings to allow it manually below:

System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy Tab and then check the list of apps that you want to allow.

Hope this able to help you out regardin on this concern.
