iOS 13.1.2 notifications sound volume bug

I am using an iphone 11 pro and it looks like the notifications sound volume is tied to the media volume. If I set the media volume to 0 I will not get notifications sounds and if I set the media volume to 100% the notifications are really loud (I have disabled the "Change with Buttons" setting). This bug includes all types of notifications, calls, lock sound...

I've tested this on my friend's iphone 11, same iOS 13.1.2 and is not happening.

Does anyone knows if it is a but in iOS, or I need to restore the phone again?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, Laurentiu!

I understand you've noticed that the volume of notifications changes even though you've set it to not change, but it still does. I'd be happy to provide information to help you troubleshoot this.

You'll want to backup and restore your iPhone to factory settings, then test to see if the issue continues on a new setup:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If you determine that the issue does not continue after restoring to factory settings, you can choose to either restore from the backup or keep the new setup.

Keep in mind, the issue may return if you restore from the backup.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Enjoy your day!

Seems many of us are having sound issues related to a bug(s) with Apple Pay and/or Siri. See my thread below. On my Xs Max, notification volume works normally, however, the volume of the lock sound is tied to the volume of the media instead of the ringer volume. This bug is alleviated by disabling 'Double-click side button' within Settings > Wallet and Apple Pay'.

iOS 13.3 just dropped but did not fix my Apple Pay lock sound bug. We need to keep reporting these sound issues to Apple as it doesn't seem to be on their radar yet.

Hello, the issue is still there.

I’ve noticed that if I adjust the volume with the side buttons and close the phone screen, the volume bar will jump by itself from my low volume setting to 3/4 level but the sound will be still low, ignoring the “Ringer and Alerts” volume setting.

This issue is strange, sometimes the phone works fine, like right after restart, until I change the volume (even if I change it just a little). When the issue is happening, the phone will only use the media volume and ignoring the “Ringer and Alerts” volume setting.

PS: I’ve updated last night to 13.1.3 and the problem is still happening.

Hi Laurentiu,

Have you had any luck resolving this? I’ve had the same problem and it’s really frustrating. Recently it’s been switching back and forth. So sometimes the system volume controls my lock sound and sometimes the ringer volume controls it. I spoke with Apple and they said the former is expected behavior which makes no sense given the fact that two other phones in my household do not do this and also the fact that it is now switching back and forth. I tried resetting the settings and this only fixed the issue for two days before it started acting up again.

Omg!!! Finally someone who shares my issue!!!

I am trying to convince people, that this behaviour isn‘t actually normal.

My issue is, that my screen lock sound just doesn‘t sound when Volume at Control Center is set on 0%. And going up to 100% makes the sound go very loud. I have deactivated the option to use the volume buttons for ringtone volume, but it doesn‘t help.

Today, I‘ve discovered another funny bug. Using the camera app, which makes that click sound when taking a picture or this different sound on Night mode, it appears that Control Center Volume has an affect here, too. But this time, the it‘s not very loud at 100%, but only at 50%. Going up or down to 0% or 100% actually decreases Volume. As if 50% is the center of loudness...

I have factory reseted, forced and updated etc and nothing helped. No Apple Costumer Support or even Premium Reseller Assistant had a clue what‘s causing the issue and played it down. But this is a serious bug, which has to have a source!!!

Thanks for the update Laurentiu.

I’ve also found that when I have the problem, if I enable and disable Siri, it’ll revert back to normal. Sort of a weird work around that doesn’t always work, but I’ve had a couple of days with normal functionality.

How did you find out about the wallet fix? That’s a bit of a bummer for me since I use Apple pay a lot.

Any word on Apple yet if this is a know issue?

Hi,

I have the same issue on my IPhone 11 Pro on IOS 13.3

both actions didn't fix the issue by either: (1) going to Settings > Wallet and Apple Pay and

disabling 'Double-click side button',

or (ii) going to Settings >

Siri and Search and disabling 'Press Side Button for Siri'.

I reported the bugs to Apple , hopefully they will fix it in the next update.

So more specifically, here’s what has worked for me the last couple of times:

I have “hey Siri” enabled... so whenever the sound issue happens (lock sound controlled by system) I’ll try activating Siri by asking but any random question... it then fixes the problem. Sounds silly, but has worked in the last 3 occasions.

I do also hope Apple becomes more aware of this and works on the issue.

Hearing other people have this problem at least gives the reassuring feeling that it might be an iOS issue rather than a defective phone.

Unfortunately, the 13.3.1 update has NOT fixed my sound issues on my Xs Max. If I have both 'Press Side Button for Siri' and 'Double-Click Side Button' enabled in Wallet, then the volume of my lock click sound is messed up. If I disable one of these side button settings (either one), then the issue is 'fixed'. I currently have Siri side button disabled as I frequently use Apple Pay, however, I notice the inconvenience of not being to use Siri.
