Mac OS Catalina Sidecar error 32002

I have a MacBook Pro 2016 model and an iPad Pro 11 inch 2018 model with Mac OS Catalina (10.15) and iOS 13.1.2 installed. Both devices are signed in using the same Apple ID and 2-factor authentication is turned on. Both devices are on the same wireless network.

If I use the sidecar option from the settings menu or if I use the displayy option from the menu bar my iPad is listed as an option for usage of sidecar. But when I select it I get an 'Unable to connect' message with an error code of 32002. See attached screenshot.

I tried restarting the devices, connecting them using the USB-C cable to have no dependency on WiFi but still I can't get this working. Are there any ideas to try ?

Hi Andrew,

your hint towards the VPN solved my connection problem. I had CISCO Anyconnect app running on my iMac which not only blocked Sidecar but also the "Import form iPhone" feature in the Finder.

Same problem here, but with an iMac 5k. Works over WIFI, but not over USB (in this case USB-A to Lightning iPad Pro 12.9").

Have tried resetting trust, and fixing home folder permissions as documented in this thread.

Same here, wifi yes, usb c no. Resetting "trust this computer" didn't work.

I had the same problem. Then I restarted the macbook and the ipad. Then it worked :)

How do you confirm a cable is for power only? I'd like to confirm it is a hardware issue before I start digging in software settings.

I've tried "Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder - Apple Support" and "Trust This Computer" and still same issue. When I connect over WiFi is all fine but only when connect over usb-c and trying iPad saying it's switching to USB I hanfgs and then disconnect with popup with error 32002.

It was working previously like week ago I think recent 2 updates killed the feature. Please help!

Same problem here with brand new MacBoook Air 2019 and iPad Pro 11, out of the box. The iPad connects, and I can work for about 15 seconds, and then the problem arises. WiFi works stable.

btw: MacBook is going to be exchanged because of all sorts of other thunderbolt issues... Hoping this will resolve things

Well, I even restarted the macbook with a clean install...

All the great suggestions on resetting stuff and logging in and out are so Microsoft like, and are not a solution!

This requires a fix from Apple!

If there are issues, Apple needs to make sure they are solved transparently!

This situation is unacceptable, and requires attention from Apple!

I still have the same issue after doing what was asked with the permissions. But now I get a device timeout and and not as frequent the 32002 error. Prior to doing the fix, that was all I was getting.

same here, works once, get the 32002 - Unable to Connect to "***" A miscellaneous error occurred and then a black sidecar starts on my ipad.

Same issue here. Sidecar has never consistently worked. None of the fixes work for any appreciable amount of time. So frustrating.
