Accountsd CPU usage high in macOS Catalina

Any updates gang? This problem continues to be totally debilitating. I can't believe that my freaking Mail client brings me maxed out MBP 16" to it's knees. Really driving me nuts. I know several of you are working with senior advisors...can we check in with them to get an update? Please report back here.

Although it looked that disabling mail in the iCloud drive fixed it for me after a two day’s it Came back with exactly the same high cpu loads for mail and accountsd. I have tried sk many thinks that I can only conclude this is caused ** a bug Apple should fix.

Appreciate the terminal commands, but my goal is to not have todo anything. I can live without my address book if that means I dont have to kill Mail 15 times a day.

Sill no CPU spike.. its been almost 4 hours. Ill update this thread tonight after I finish work.

Apple should fix this. My anecdote was just trying to figure out what happened to Mail. Your experience just made me realise that certainly those old limitations are lone gone and it is just a bug somewhere in the code. So maybe there is hope.

By the way, the only thing I see that was a big innovation in Catalina Mail was oAuth support.

add 1. I have very little mail in my iCloud mail so I don't see this as an issue

add 2. Tried that but did not work for me

add 3. Did that but I now saw that with Exchange account their is something similar I did not disabled. I just did so and for now it seems te work. Let's wait a day or two because sometimes a change seems to solve it but after some time it comes back.

add 4. Done that during all the things I tried and it did not solved it for me.

Mail has had its good years and bad.

Outlook has less instabilities and if you're paying for it may as well use it. Particularly Exchange users.

Disabling accounts and then re-enabling them, quitting Mail, etc., is variously successful, for unclear reasons, but the problem recurs every time.

I suppose at this point it's wait and see what happens with Big Sur. Whatever is going on is probably so baked into Mail.app that there may be nothing to be done about it in its current OS X form.

Yes indeed. Out of sheer desperation, I had tried Outlook, Spark, Airmail, and a few others. Each one has strange quirks about it that make those products unusable. In the end, I kept praying Apple would fix Mail. So 10.15.6 is a god send.

BTW if any of you use Mailhub, I found it crashes Mail in 10.15.6. Msgfiler, on the other hand, works just fine. I preferred Mailhub but obviously can't use it in this version of Mail. If you haven't checked out these utilities, I recommend you take a look. I find them to be invaluable. (You only need one of these, not both as their functionality largely overlaps).

Is no one concerned that accountsd memory usually continues to climb? I mean, I'm happy for all the high-fiving but -- it looks like at 500Mb+ on size after four days, if it keeps growing it's going to be an issue, no?

I'm not personally seeing that... will keep an eye on, but as long as CPU is not ramping up locking up the computer, everything should be okay.

Memory is dynamically handled depending on whats open and background processes needed. As an example, DropBox is currently taking almost 800MB and Safari 430MB and WindowServer almost 700MB.

It seems better now. No cpu slams but my accountsd still climbs albeit slower. It’s been a few days but I’m nearing 1gb of ram. When will it end? When it sucks up all the physical memory? This doesn’t happen in outlook so it’s obviously a mail thing.

I agree with you - but I think Apple is large enough that they can concentrate on improving their products along with taking up social issues. Shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

I created a post outside of here (won't post the link because I'll get scolded for that) of all the things I hate about Catalina. Was cathartic but sort of hoped someone at Apple would take note.

Unfortunately that does not help for me.

I deactivated the iCloud Keychain sync (which had a question bout Safari web form passwords and credit cards suggesting that nothing else is synchronised) than it was switched off.

Then I switched off the Airport to ensure there is no net connection. Problem started immediately as usual: Mail 150%, accountsd 400%.

Crazy as before.

Finally it helped!!! I had only a simple question (I know it's rhetorical...) remained:

Why the hack, the release info kept silence about this fix? I saw the update, read the note but did not see any reason to execute! I know, the OS has to be up-to-date, but I had some debate somehow.

Yep that happens more often and is very annoying. We all know bugs are part of software but sometimes it seems sometimes developers don’t want to admit there was a specific bug. I can only speculate why but for us as administrators it is very ...
