Unable to sign into Music, Podcast, Books, or TV app within Catalina.

Has anyone else experienced an issue where they were unable to sign into the Music, Podcast, Books, or TV app within Catalina?


I have two Macbook Pros and a Macbook Air (all built within the last two years). The two MBP I was able to easily update to Catalina without any issues. However on my Macbook Air, I am unable to sign into any of those apps above. I was able to sign into my apple id within the system preferences and the app store app. Within those applications, I have tried logging in through a variety of different methods. In Music and Podcast app, I get the following error numbers:


  • Music --> 11556 or 1001
  • Podcast --> 0


On the other applications, nothing would happen whenever I tried to log in. I have even gone through recovery mode and reinstalled the OS, but nothing has fixed the issue.

After some tests, it worked for me (don't know if it is a workaround or it was a coincidence).

The tests I made:

  • Create a new user (well I created several). During the first login skip iCloud login when prompted. After you finally get to "Desktop" go into System Preferences and manually sign into iCloud. After that test login in Music. I tried creating 4-5 users with/without iCloud login during first login and only had success with the users that I didn't login to iCloud when prompted.


If it works for you, you can use one of the users created, or like me, reinstall Catalina, but don't sign into iCloud during installation.

iTunes in both Sierras and Mojave on my MBP (15" late2013) had a problem with showing "Recently Added" - it just started to hang up iTunes when clicked, so for a long time I decided to exclude it from the list waiting for a real new OS like Catalina to have it repaired. When the NEW ONE came and iTunes has been incorporated into the OS completely - nothing has changed. The same problem occurred, so I decided to consult it with Apple Support. After few attempts through the 'test account' my "Music" has recovered the "Recently Added" folder but.... without my latest music prays (Error 1001). It just lost the possibility to log into my subscriber's account. No way. Another two consultations gave little help except the link to this thread and a promise of a coming new fix solving the problem registered by Apple just in Poland by tens of similar cases. The way around I was told, is to completely clean my SSD and install Catalina from the beginning, log to the "Music" first then to iCloud. Not other way. Helpfully someone gave here a solution to get access to our own music subscription through the website: https://beta.music.apple.com Not the cure but a temporary relief. Hope the real medicine will be available soon.
